Hence why governments insist that they donate a percentage of poker machine profits back to community organisations.
The mandate is there .... When a club makes a profit, they have to distribute it to the community. It's why clubs are "non for profit".

It's not a fixed %, but clubs are mandated to support the community via the Club Grants scheme.

FACT: The structure of Holman Barnes Group has served the Club and community well for 69 years. The debenture holder system enabled our Club to open its doors in 1955. Beyond this, the system has ensured stability in an ever changing environment.
Umm what? 🤣
In their defence, the system has worked flawlessly. The club board up until the last 6 months has been stable for the last near 70 years.

It's allowed the club to grow and build their current premises (I think in the 1980's), then extend and build the car park in the 2010's....and have the capital to buy Campbelltowns shares in WTs in 2012, bailout Balmain to the tune of $8.5 million in 2016, and then a further $3.2m bailout in 2020/2021 (the Amalgamation).

The club routinely donates significant monies to local organisations directly or via the Club Grants system.

Have your own opinion of their ownership of Wests Tigers, but when you consider their financial performance at club level, the board has worked well, the club has grown and has thrived. Aside from the performance of a part owned football club, the board has performed well.

Not sure how that can be questioned.

No ...I'm not a member

All this will no doubt be taken into account in the courts if required.

The assets passed across to HBG (Western Suburbs Leagues Club) as part of the Amalgamation:
  1. Lease on the Markets Club (generating a healthy income)
  2. Pokie Machines - 60
  3. Pokie Machine Entitlements - 180

Including juniors grants and bailout money roughly 15 million has gone into Balmain from HBG.

$350k a year from HBG to Balmain since 2019 ...so there is $1.75m

And yet the petition is asking for an investigation into the HBG.
This is what I don't get about them supposedly wanting to bring back the magpies. They fund balmain juniors, have a board seat from balmain, continue to play at LO and incorporated the name Barnes into their organisation.
Surely they would not have done any of this if they were looking at reviving the magpie brand.

No good deed goes unpunished unfortunately it seems.

Anyway the 10 year licence renewal for the WT has just been signed by HBG, Wests magpies and Balmain so yeah.

If any such fantasy was possible it would have been done in 2019.

Courts? What courts? This isn't going near a court. If NSW L&G are indeed looking at the club, so long as the club hasn't breached any gaming or liquor regulations, and has complied with the law under Clubs Act, then it has nothing to fear.

One reason I chuckled at the Petition... The NSW Liquor and Gaming are only concerned of compliance of liquor and gaming laws and regulations, and compliance of registered clubs. Where clubs dont comply with those regulations, then they can have sanctions / fines / points against them for non compliance.

The clubs act makes no comment on the make up of a board, and how they are selected.

So, given the club is audited each year, and the club isnt keeping a second set of books, etc, then this will be a laborious exercise for the club and tbh could delay the completion of the recommendations, given 2 board members of HBG are also on the board of the Wests Tigers.

That would be ironic

Exactly. That's the problem with made up stories....they generally ignore reality.

It doesn't sound like an organisation that's wants the magpies back.

Nah,

I certainly couldn't imagine what that looks like in 2025......wouldn't feel like my team but the way it's going maybe the Wests Tigers won't either.

There were dissenting voices in 2019 at the extraordinary meeting.......regarding taking on Balmains massive debt and giving away part of our ownership structure by moving away from the Wests group to the HBG structure.

Now seemingly it will be used against the group.

I wonder what would've happened if the roles were reversed in 2019. I'd like someone to answer that.

As it is now we may have to proceed to the courts.

It would have to be an act of parliament affecting all clubs.

I don't know if it's true or not. But the petition calls for actions, not words. All the actions I see from HBG indicates they arnt planning on being back the magpies.
We need an independent board at wests tigers though. I'm all for that

Well if their own long serving Wests aligned HBG directors did not publically state that they were concerned about the future of the WTs under the current administration and then were banned for combined 15:years for what seems minor and disputed claims, then some of the concern surrounding the make up of the board and the clubs future would be less of an issue.

You can pick and choose a side to support and believe but the problem is the small entitled group able to lead the club under it's current governance structure are pulling in different directions and it is questionable that any of them should have or deserve the privilege of making decisions in relation to the future of WTs.given our continual failure in a competition where we should be thriving and in which they have had plenty of time to lead effectively and have failed.
This if nothing else says we should and can do better.
