Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Don't get the Lodge shouts. We don't really need more middles, especially not an old, slow one who bounces around clubs demanding good money.
Lodge would struggle to make RM Cup these days....I'm sure the club has never considered him..He should join Nofa at the Dirty Red Devils

Spoon bowl? Was it in reality? Truthful or a lie? Have no issue with honesty tbh. Call a spade a spade. His mistake was he hurt some feelings of some supporters that is all and done so without any intention. Facts are facts, let’s not beat around the bush. The team we had would be lucky to stay clear of the spoon in KOE.
Of course it was.
He had two weeks to prepare for it, and the team looked like they didn’t know each other.

He has won two spoons in a row from two attempts.
The evidence is clear.

I love the "We need to wait and see"
He gets every excuse under the sun - Now he has the players he wants.
He's been signing our Players from 3 years back.

We heard plenty on how hard he fought Fulton to sign Sezer,
But nothing when Sezer proved to be a dud, Toa - Naden, Both signed under his say so... Still nothing.
granted he's had a few victories of late, But they'll need to come out blazing for mine
there's nothing left but points to get

The 5 players I mentioned have all played tier internationals or origin with the exception of Nofoaluma who was a former Dally M winger. 2 of those players (Nof and JOf) have won the clubs player of the year, so proven they can perform here. I can certainly understand the viewpoint that they weren't necessarily quality players during Marshall's time here, but they clearly have proven to be quality when correctly managed.

I suspect only Nofoaluma has individual issues bigger than any coach could overcome at the time he was moved on. He is also the only one that I believe fits the description of previous coaches failing to address performance. Of the other 4 JOf was our player of the year in 22 the year before Marshall (and Sheens) took over and Utoikamanu played his Origin game in 23, Marshall's (and Sheens) first year. The other 2 weren't here prior to 23 to have performance issues under other coaches.

Yes they weren't playing particularly well here but is it not on the coach to get the best out of them?
Yes, moving on these under performers may result in a better squad. The hope is that the new improved squad being 'his squad' will mean he is better placed to get the best out of them.
The major concern for me is if he couldn't get those guys to perform well why will he get the new and improved squad to perform well?
We can't stay in games the last few years because we're unfit....
That's on the Staff.

That's BS mate. Any other coach would have achieved the same results with the squad and depth we had. Give the bloke a chance to prove himself!
He has had two and a half years!!!!!!!
You need to stay quiet on this one.
If he works out this year, it doesn’t make anything you’ve said true.
Up until right this second, the evidence all says he is a poor first grade coach.

Sezer was nothing but a placeholder until Luai arrived.

His actual target was Mitch Moses but former management couldn’t close a deal at McDonalds.

I'm a poker player mate and there is this thing called results orientated thinking.

You can lose a hand but not have played it poorly. Stop being results orientated Tucker you are smarter then that!!

One year under Richo.

How long do you expect rebuilds to take?

With most things, it’s just blind faith re Benji. It’s not like anyone has any lower grades or juniors that he’s coached to get himself to where he is, to fall back on. He needs a chance…Just because.

If you compare our ‘squad’ against the rest of the teams we are still a bottom 4-5 team. I hope we can finish a mid comp team (8-12), but unfortunately I can’t see it in 2025.

Every recruitment decision made since 2022 when he and Sheens were hired was to his wants.
It is such a cop out to cry he didn’t have the team or depth.

"Marshall would assume the role in the Tigers' Round 25 match, where the Tigers would break a 10-game losing streak, defeating the Dolphins 24–22. The final 3 games of the 2023 NRL season officially do not count toward Marshall's coaching record, as Tim Sheens was still technically the head coach until the conclusion of the season."

I’m not saying he can coach or he’s proven anything, I just think this year he truly has a roster capable of winning in first grade. He’ll be judged on that.

That’s not the case here though. He is losing hands because his tells are obvious.
Last year’s squad should have won more than they did. The floggings of Cronulla and Canberra as well as back to back wins over the Rabbits and Sea Eagles - four mainstay clubs of the 8, was an indication that this team could play. Their preparations were erratic though and in the end they came up with the worst defence a Wests Tigers team has produced in 25 years to secure yet another spoon.

Of course he will. He has a possible contender for the finals on paper.
That doesn’t erase the past two efforts though.

If you don’t think he coached in 23 then you weren’t paying attention.

I agree. You even look at Galvin's junior career and he was a mercenary even then. He bounced around junior clubs until he landed at a team that went undefeated for years. Left Parra at the first sign of trouble.

I also believe there is a good possibility that Latu ends up a better player than Galvin. Galvin was always going to look good earlier in his NRL career because he is a bigger body. I also have concerns about Galvins long term position, particularly when he fills his frame out at 23-24 years old and is 6ft4-6ft5. He will likely be too big and slow to play in the halves and end up in the backrow just like Wade Graham, John Sutton, Sironen, Matterson etc etc.
Were those guys setting club records and mere seconds off WR bronco’s tho? It’s not just stamina that gets you on the footsteps of WR’s

IMO, Richo needs to drill in the ideas to Galvin that if he leaves:
- he throws away that legacy of a one club man and a key role in the revival of the 💩house of the pre-2025 WT’s, with his potential and seeing himself as a future legend of the game imagine that argument in top 5/8’s of the 2020s or even all time
- he becomes a scapegoat in a large chunk of clubs if they lose, Luai protects him from that here
- it’s year 1, combinations will take time to build, sign on for another year or two and see how the combination goes and some of the dead wood from previous management is replaced
