Nathan never wanted to come here. It’s funny in hindsight that we thought we had him in the bag. And it’s not like we didn’t have good reason to believe it. The last thing we ever thought was that his father would leave us up shit creek after talking the talk.

Just one of the depressing events that kept happening to get us to the 3rd spoon.

We will never know M but the chance to coach his son would have been strong, near impossible to pass up.

It was a 100/1 but if we could have landed his son, he would not have defected to riff we might have been a top 4 side by now.

maybe? Ivan coached us for 43 games, long enough to get a clear look at how the back office operated. I’m not saying that was anywhere near his main reason for leaving, but it would have been in the mix.
If Ivan had stayed and we played finals a couple of times there’s no guarantee we would be in a better position than we are now.
He didn’t have the team scoring a lot of points and he also would have had to handle the injury toll he left Maguire.

We fielded some of the worst backlines in the comp by a country mile last season - and no depth in the club to cover for injuries and suspensions.
We were spoon favourites for a reason - because all other squads were rated more highly to couple with the unproven coach.

Not to mention we were a really young team. That + no depth is a recipe for disaster. We were lucky Galvin was half-decent, otherwise we'd have been even worse.

He had a better Roster than the few coaches before him - And it wasn't an excuse for them...
Why is it an excuse for him?

There’s no excuse. Getting the spoon in 24 was a disaster that should have his papers marked.
He’s going to need a very good start to keep his job. I hope he can do it because I like him. Having said that, we can’t keep him on as coach if the results are poor, just because of who he is.

Strong points T management wouldn't have filled you with confidence that's for sure but if he could have cleaned up pathways back then and he stayed might have been looking different now with more home grown talent.

I think his preference was always to coach Nathan at Penrith. A friend is big Penrith fan who read his autobiography and said as much. I won't be reading it to confirm, I would rather dig my eyes out.

Not from where I sat. Recruitment was poor off the back of a wooden spoon and the pundits all had us at the bottom of the table.
The only excitement that I recall was from those happy to see the backend of Brooks.

I remember having lunch at the pub one day with my GF, showing her the pile on comments about how negative I was, and how I was being an agitator and contrarian for saying we’d get the spoon. It’s hilarious that it’s now being made out that last off season on here was morose

You should know a lot can change over an off season, so why not be optimistic?
Nobody is under the illusion that success in 2025 is guaranteed, but we do have plenty of positives within our playing roster, far more positives than we have had in quite a while, so it is a possibility that we could be big improvers, time will tell.
We really don’t know if Benji is a quick learner as a coach or not, but it doesn’t hurt to give him half of season 2025 at the least before passing judgement.

Negative comments only stand out during the off season. During the actual season, it’s the general consensus.

Can't blame anyone for erasing their memories at the end of each off season - it's the only way to survive this club! LOL! Let's hope that's all about to change.
