Who here actually supports Western Suburbs in the KOE NSW Cup?

I used to love it,my day at the footy would start just before midday talking to the same group of people before the first game started at 12pm.Then 3 glorious games of football as you watched the young blokes developing their skills with a mixture of hardheads to guide them culminating in hopefully a win in FG.I really miss those wonderful days
Same!! Lining up to get in from around 11.45, with the same people, who I only saw at the footy. Watching the players come through the grades over the years, from U21s (then U23s), into Reserves, then Firsts. Seeing if I could pick the Reserves for 1st from how the Reserve Grade game had gone. Chips and sauce. The Big League - don't forget your pen to record all the tries, goals, penalties, line-up changes. A doubles ticket. Loved it!

The club should market Round 4 v Warriors at Campbelltown as such with both NSW Cup & Jersey Flegg being played before the NRL on the Sunday afternoon 30 March. I think it's our only home game like that this season.

I used to get there early, watch the thirds, then reserve grade leading into 1st grade.

From one home game to the next.

We knew the players all through the grades, & loved them all.

Somewhere things changed.

The grades were renamed, life revolved around TV times & scheduling, and the club/fan connections were changed forever.

Progress, they say.
Adapt, we might.
Love the game still? Well, it's still a big yes from me, but I can understand how many feel.

Realistically, the fan connection at the game needs to be respected and the connection strengthened.

Oh how I miss the good old days under 23's, reserve grade then 1st grade extended day out at the footy.
Me too. I started when U23s weren't a thing. The first game was 3rd grade and there were some cranky old bastards playing that grade. They were basically ex-first graders who'd slipped down through the grades and liked nothing better than to take out their vengeance on up-and-coming young blokes.

Oh no dad's army stuff.

Same here, the young blokes used to learn to how to have eyes in the back of your head.Leichhardt Oval still ran east/west and it was murder for a full back to catch a ball facing west from about half time in the FG

The problem with it these days is that's there's about an hour between the lead up game and NRL. There's literally people in the low hundreds at these games.
Excellent point. On the rare occasions there are lower grade games before the NRL I go early and the players could hear my conversations because there is barely anyone else there. The majority turn up within 45 minutes before NRL kickoff

My family was the same. There were some of my favourite players who I knew their playing style, which way they preferred passing etc and when I look them up now I am surprised that some of them only played a handful of first grade games.

My Pop was the ARL first grade referee coach, we used to go at least two games a week, all three grades. I could tell you every top 30 player from every team back then. I remember Toovs as a 15yo kid with white hair like mine, not much bigger than me, I was about 12. Pop said everyone say's he’s to small, but Poppy said he’ll play for Oz one day. I got to watch many careers from kids till they turn into crazy coaches. The only way I get that connection now is through perseverance and it’s only with our team. I couldn’t be bothered with other teams anymore.
And I don’t love rugby league anymore.
Shhh. 🤫

You see it's not about what they're called so much as the message it continues to send.

So the magpies schedule has come out and surprise surprise they're practically not playing a single double header with our NRL squad. HBG continue to drive a wedge at Wests Tigers

This means that our fringe NRL players won't be with our NRL squad on Matchday. Won't be on hand to be on standby in case of injury, won't be taking part in first grade warm ups etc. Instead they'll be segregated in a tiny old run down oval across the city, not feeling like they're part of one club, not one family, but because some old fossils want to continue to see their precious magpies they force this division within our squad.

Our players suffer, our members suffer, our fans suffer. The only ones who win are the HBG board members and the 2-300 odd people that can be bothered going to a crappy old ground like Lidcombe.

We should be able to watch all three grades at the same ground. If there's an injury our top flegg players should be able to be in the bench in NSW cup rather than someone from Ron Massey. We should be indoctrinating our top cup players into our NRL Matchday experience, have them be inspired by first graders and their standards.

There is nothing to gain and so much unity to lose by continuing this crap with the magpies. It's not just an emblem, it's a message of disunity about our club and that we're still not over our petty JV squabbles
It's only a message of disunity if you think that way and allow it to dominate your thinking.
There is absolutely no reason why the MAGPIES shouldn't play in their iconic and famous black and white gear and still be part of wests tigers.
But, in saying that I did a post on here maybe 12/18 months ago saying...it's about time Wests Magpies KOE got out of Lidcombe and played with the big boys at Campbelltown or wherever the tigers were playing.

I don't mind the odd day out lidcombe.

Probably because most of the tickets are reserved and, not like the old days, you don’t have to fight for one.

Yes, there aren't thousands of people queing up to watch these games. Some NRL games only get 5-6k. However they get a bigger crowd when playing before the NRL match. And those fans that are there develop a stronger bond to the club.
But the biggest benefit isn't about the fans, it's about the players being part of one club, where they can move up and play multiple grades throughout the day. Having 3 matches in 3 separate locations just creates division and isolation

No you're wrong. The disunity is apparent to everyone bar a few dinosaurs to which you are closely allied.

The magpies will still exist, in junior pathways, which is their role in Wests Tigers. Developing juniors and grassroots connections.

Playing at Lidcombe (regularly, a one off heritage round is fine) is an insult to members and fans and players
