Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Sliding doors moment.
Sheens remains head of football, either Madge steps up or is replaced and we land a decent coach who can bring Benji through as an assistant and we possibly miss all 3 spoons.
Even better - we grab Wayne last week for 3 yrs to mentor Benji.

Steff would’ve stayed.

Galvin would’ve extended

We wouldn’t have won the spoon last year

We’d be playing for top 4 this yr

This is just my opinion for this season....We should sit back, watch how things unfold in the first 5/6 rounds and get an idea of how the work done in preseason has bettered the team...Lets face it our team seems a hell of alot stronger,Benji has gained more knowledge,Richo has made good changes, the board has changed for the better and the fanbase has increased...
Whats not to like going into round one,we need the team not only to improve but to WIN....HERES HOPING FOR THE BEST....

That's all we can do TT.... everything here is just noise and opinions = and we all have one of those 🤣

Mate just want all of the silly bickering to stop I am sure majority of the forum would agree, what weak link are you referring to Benji or future problems
I haven’t seen any “silly bickering”. I’m not really interested in personalities on here, just ideas. I wasn’t referring to a weak link in particular, but my experience tells me that there is always one.
A famous coach once said to a player “my job is to find someone better than you. Your job is to make sure I don’t.”
You’re not sea lioning me are you?
And just so you know, I can tell the sound of a “Dolphin laugh” (I just made that up). 😂 that’s not one.

Lol sea lioning had to google that when mentioned on here, that coach I'm guessing was a smart operator wonder if Benji has read his philosophies if there is any.

Game had passed him by. Tried re-creating 05 by giving the players a licence to throw the ball around. That lasted about two weeks once he realised our backline consisted of Naden and Staines.
As a coach- probably. He was only ever a short term band-aid anyway.

But as a recruiter of talent? I don't think he lost that ability. Look at the quality coming through now- there's a fair few Sheens smudgy fingerprints on this generation.

I was happy with Sheens taking over under the proposed plan- Benji takes over in time, Sheens moves to Football GM. Had that plan taken place- adding Richo- I think we are in a good spot. If Benji had been able to lean on Sheens last season for guidance, I suspect there's a different narrative around the club.

For all of that, Benji has proven to be a decent recruiter of talent so far- that might be HIS strength. It then comes down to how he surrounds himself with coaches to assist.

Spot on.
He'll be next "hot property" in coaches on the market
This will be controversial on here and it will probably come back to bite, but I would have chucked him in the deep end, absolute rookie but he was able to get his players to work for him pretty sure he looked after the 1st grade team against the cowboys when the bunker ripped us off, they wanted to play for him.

He at least served an apprenticeship

How about John Morris, is he actually the guy that is responsible for our defence, something that has been a major problem for us for a very long time and still is.
Our defence waivered between NRL and Reserve grade standard during most games. This wasn't coached. In my opinion this was a combination of frustration (players rushing out of the line to make the hero play/ill discipline), fitness (being unable to overcome starting sets so keep in our own half and handing the ball over so shallow in theirs), cohesion (suspensions and.injury to key players in the defensive structures and lack of depth) and attitude (not wanting to win the collision due to combinations of the aforementioned).

A different approach to our defensive structure may bring marginal improvement. Any major improvement will be based on the opposition starting their defensive sets deep in their own territory which means our attack is our critical vulnerability. Fix our attack and kicking game then the fitness, frustration and attitude will be mostly addressed.
