Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Agreed, but as for 2025 the likes of Klem Twal and a few others will do a job and have a dig but at their very best are still way off the pace with the top players.

Although it’s all about the collective effort across the 17 and who knows what we might see. On one hand Iam optimistic about what this team is going to achieve in 25, on the other hand I still think our forward pack is not top eight and I worry about blending so many new faces into a formidable outfit.
Scars of previous seasons will do that to you has to turn around some time hopefully now.

What a game Benjis tackle on was it Darren Smith the ex dogs player change the game stopped him on the try line
When i think of Bunjies defensive prowess, all i vision is Mark Gasnier not only milking Matt Coopers hard work, but running over the top of Marshall hiding (defensively) in the backline, out wide, to score 3 , 4 tries a game with the same plan ,again n again

Flanno had a reasonable 1st year at saints but if he is a good coach why did he miss so many targets, players are wanting to get out and dads army is coming in, verdict on this season if he can get something out of them regarding coaching ability.
Agree
The Dragons have 2 years at best to do something as Flanno with his dads army recruiting is a Coach for his own glory nothing about building a team like a Bellamy.
I finally see the Tigers building well for the future and don’t expect them to be a Top 4 side this year but do expect vast improvement.

St G are starting to look like we used to,Talking 2day to some smart diehards ,Their confused about direction of the club

Kogarah?
They’re not real smart those dragqueens fans.
thought Flannagan Sr would be a draw card.time will tell. With all this Bunji cant coach crap.Maybe he can or cant ,he knows the modern day shapes ,cant be to hard, same as Flannagan - point being neither club has a squad that any coach can change over the 1st off season ,how much time ,history will tell.

There is something to the Marshall factor.

Look Flanno will run a well run team. He has clearly drawn Holmes down from NQ and signed Gutho and Cook... So he has some draw too him.

What players expressed with Marshall though is that growing up, they looked up to the kid and watched him play. Which is really really rare. Yes there will be NRL hero's coaching and some people may flick back, Haslier etc. ... But Marshall will have appealed to this current Gen coming in.

I also reckon in 5 years it will be different. Players will know who Marshall is/was and seen him play. But he will not have been "the hero" for them growing up.

Agree.
He has a little window rite now to leverage his appeal..plus a large wallet which is not unhelpful
Bottom line is if he performs well as a coach,he will have a different level of credibility and appeal to attract players in the future
And if he doesnt.the key players in this team bolt, and we rebuild yet again...

We thought that when Bud came over but that doesn't mean he wouldn't succeed at another club I prefer to see what happens with Taylan first.
True, but I think Sullivan's issue is he just falls short of that little bit of talent....

I think Sloan could be anything; There's something not right with where he is in his career. Don't know what it is and don't want to put it down to attitude because I honestly don't know, but when he is on he is awesome.

I'm concerned about Taylan May's character and still a bit circumspect about Tyrell - I just can't get over the Roosters just letting such a good player leave ostensibly because they're "going in a different direction".

They couldn’t come out and say they sacked him for having a nose beer, because “officially” it never happened. They clearly knew what he was up to though and that video that we have talked about ad nauseam sealed his fate. By coming out and giving a BS excuse about wanting to give another player a chance, as stupid as it sounded, it least helped them save face by not having to publicly tear up the contract of a player taking drugs. Aside from the laughable explanation they gave for his “release”, it was actually a creative way of not making your club look bad.

Throwing this out there:
Anyone else reckon Tigers should look at Sloan from the dragons?

Don't think they have any spots left in the 30 do they?

Flanagan is obviously not high on him (defensive issues apparently) and the tigers desperately need another centre. His stock is low right now so they could probably get him at a good price and I think St George would let him go.

I think defence can definitely be taught (I remember Lawrence wasn't good to start, Brooks imo became a good defender too) but Sloan is lightning quick and has a heap of talent.

Don't think I've actually seen him play centre, but
I reckon a change of scenery (possibly a change of attitude?) and they could mould him into a very good centre.
A player with defensive issues thrown green into the centre position is a recipe for disaster.
He's great with the ball and runs like lightning, excitement machine... But defense was a huge issue for us had been for years... We don't need another arm grabber

I think when a player like Sloan is languishing and there isn’t a line of clubs, or at least one, putting the feelers out, that’s a bit of red flag that he’s not what you are looking for.

Well I do put it down to attitude mate, thats what defence is. I took a bit of notice in him last year when he was having issues, and I have to say it really looked like he was afraid of contact. That is not what our team needs and certainly not in a position he doesn't normally play.

After the vid incident I think uncle Nick thought he was on the nose, oops bad phrase considering the subject matter, the smart ones learn from their mistakes we will see if both wake up to themselves. Sloan has potential great pace but as the guys have just mentioned above needs some defensive work, if his heart is set on fullback some players don't like to deviate.

Yep can't tackle a wet paper towel. Worst defender I've seen and there are few out there.
