Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Yeh it's all about his defensive deficiencies isn't it?

The two players I initially mentioned (Lawrence and Brooks) started out very poor defenders but imo became very good, but it's simply not something that happens overnight.

And you're exactly right: the team really can't afford to carry a poor defender - especially in the centres and especially especially (yes, twice as especial! 😂) a guy who isn't even a centre to begin with....

I see now the error of my ways and have brought great shame to my family.... 😔
There there... It's OK... You don't have to tell the family 🤫

Personally I think a big middle forward.

I know it might’ve been a pipe dream given the May signing inbetween it all but I would’ve loved Leo Thompson…
He’s no Leo Thompson but if the club want another ‘enforcer’ prop maybe they will have a crack at Molo. Think he’s 30 which is prime for front rowers so should have a good 3 years in him

When i think of Bunjies defensive prowess, all i vision is Mark Gasnier not only milking Matt Coopers hard work, but running over the top of Marshall hiding (defensively) in the backline, out wide, to score 3 , 4 tries a game with the same plan ,again n again
It was the best tackle he ever made

He managed to coach one first grade game for us which was that infamous game against the Cowgirls when we were robbed of a much deserved victory by "I'll get you Butler" and "Ashley the Klown."

I will also hate for ever Townsend and Feldt, the later who I held in high regard prior to his scummy act.

That was such a great effort by our boys only to be robbed at the bell by dubious calls and action by not only the match officials but also by members of the North Queensland playing squad, not to mention Annersley and his rewriting/interpretation of the rule book.

My only disappointment with Ben Gardiner at the time was that he kept very quiet and did not get involved in the controversy that came from that hateful game.

I guess that come the end of the day you could say he was very diplomatic and with the position he was in at the time was probably the sensible thing to do, if nothing else, it showed his ability to present a calm and measured response at a critical time.

I guess in a way he knew he was already leaving the Wests Tigers, because for some reason he was not wanted, despite being the best and most successful coach at the club at that time.

Despite all that I find it unbelievable that even if he was leaving, why was he not given the coaching position for the remainder of the year instead of installing the hapless Brett Kimmorley, surely anyone could see that Gardiner was the best and most logical choice to take over for the remainder of the season.

Oh gawd.
Where do I start (even after all this time)?
Disappointment??? What about, say, the miscarriage, the sellout, the corruptness ....
The decision by Annesley et al was maybe the first game I questioned the powers to be, and our club for not standing up for our club.
We never received any explanation from our Chairman etc, even though he trumpeted legal action and everything - then it came to nothing.
It still irks me to this day and like you, champion @hank37w, I will never forgive Feldt and his smug contempt.
I love rugby league, but I was brought up to play to the rules and the whistle - not some contrived conspiracy that kicks us while we're down.

Thats some list of pressure V.
Not much in way of high quality unless Olam can somehow get back to close to his best, or if someone like Taylan May signs with us and quickly rediscovers his form from early last season at the Panthers, but in way of centre depth we look much better placed than most rival clubs.
I am slightly concerned about the general speed across our likely team line ups as aside from Bula and Staines there is nobody in our 1-5 who is is genuinely fast and our forward pack doesn’t really have anyone who you could call above average in speed for a forward except maybe Talyn Da Silva.

Working hard on team effort might make up for shortcomings in speed.

When you consider we have Justin Olam, Adam Doueihi, Starford To’a, Jeral Skelton, Sunia Turuva, Brent Naden, Josh Feledy, Solomona Faatape and potentially Heamasi Makasini, Latu Fainu or a potential late signing in Taylan May all competing for starting NRL positions, we have plenty to choose from and surely it creates enough pressure for a few of them play regularly well enough to make the position their own.
The other May is coming ? Is it Taylan?

I genuinely think we’re one quality forward signing away from being a top 8 team.

It seems the belief around the club is players will become available throughout the 2025 season and they’ll pick their moment to pounce.

If the right player becomes available I think we can be a serious threat.

Not expecting anything crazy next season tbh I’d just like to see signs of improvements if we miss the 8 but we’re competitive all year and are having a crack I’ll be happy.

Hopefully enough to convince Galvin to stay….
Looking around the league most teams top 30 are either forward heavy or backs heavy. Not many teams have a good balance of both. I think this means there will be a fair bit of movement during the season.

Hopefully a quality second rower becomes available from one of those forward heavy teams.
