Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Anyone who has watched the horror show which has been our Wests Magpies NSW Cuo team for the majority of the last 2 seasons will know they have more often than not lacked direction, lacked a decent kicking game and lacked overall quality and experience to compete at that level, therefore adding an experienced halfback on Kurt Falls on a deal that does not effect our NRL squad is a very astute buy.
There is no guarantee Fallls will be the regular starting halfback for our NSW Cup team, but if we find someone better we are going well.
Well said @Vicious yep having some experience especially in the spine with Kurt Falls & Tristan Hope adds confidence, structure & helps develop/teach the younger guys. And having a successful Cup & Flegg team helps boost the morale of the joint too.

The morale of the joint only improves when the NRL team starts winning.. the rest is peripheral tbh
Need to focus on the main prize...the rest will look after itself over time
Last thing we need to do is fill scarce top 30 slots with perennial fringe 1st graders...[particularly in the playmaking area where weve got so many kids coming thru we have to lose some(Large)

He managed to coach one first grade game for us which was that infamous game against the Cowgirls when we were robbed of a much deserved victory by "I'll get you Butler" and "Ashley the Klown."

I will also hate for ever Townsend and Feldt, the later who I held in high regard prior to his scummy act.

That was such a great effort by our boys only to be robbed at the bell by dubious calls and action by not only the match officials but also by members of the North Queensland playing squad, not to mention Annersley and his rewriting/interpretation of the rule book.

My only disappointment with Ben Gardiner at the time was that he kept very quiet and did not get involved in the controversy that came from that hateful game.

I guess that come the end of the day you could say he was very diplomatic and with the position he was in at the time was probably the sensible thing to do, if nothing else, it showed his ability to present a calm and measured response at a critical time.

I guess in a way he knew he was already leaving the Wests Tigers, because for some reason he was not wanted, despite being the best and most successful coach at the club at that time.

Despite all that I find it unbelievable that even if he was leaving, why was he not given the coaching position for the remainder of the year instead of installing the hapless Brett Kimmorley, surely anyone could see that Gardiner was the best and most logical choice to take over for the remainder of the season.
Poor club decision again

We dont need to sign back ups..as 3 x wooden spooners,we dent want rejects ..we need genuine first graders
Weve already got plenty of fill ins
Plus..weve got a lot of good kids coming thru...most wont make it,but some will
and youll get a cple of years of discounted $$ out of them...until they meet I Moses and it all changes
This is a ridiculous comment. Yes, we do need back ups. Every club does. Falls is a 5/8 - a position at which we are absolutely stacked at present. But what happens if Luai is playing origin and Galvin gets injured? You've got to have third, fourth and fifth choices even if all the last ones do is give you some hope of jagging a game or two while the starters are out. And you don't get to sign Cameron Munster to play reserves all season.
No-one is saying Kurt Falls is the answer to the Tigers' problems - he's not even on a first grade contract and anyway I'd suggest the answer to problems role is sort of filled by Jarome Luai. The only suggestion is that if we get into the unfortunate position of having to play a fourth or fifth choice half he's probably a better option than some 17 year old or, say, Brandon Wakeham.
Sorry to go off but it always irritates me when someone trots out the 'we don't want rejects' argument about someone who might be the 40th or 50th name on the extended roster. The Panthers were playing career reserve grader Trent Toelau and Tigers reject Daine Laurie in the halves in reserve grade last year. That must be a badly run club, hey? Why didn't they have Dylan Brown and Shaun Johnson?

It’s just another coaching staff member with no coaching resume.
But starting his apprenticeship - so doing it the right way. He doesn't seem the type to want the exposure of head coach (maybe he does) but could make an excellent assistant coach and mentor. Nothing to be excited about yet but there is potential if we develop him correctly.

Yr gonna covet winning the reserve grade comp...!Will be a wonderful achievement that will truly get the turnstyles rolling...??
We deserve better ,and shld aim that way .
Still got Bud on our books for next 2 years after this season if yr talking halves
Why wld u wanna buy another fringe half??
Hes probably got more potential than yr suggestions, and were committed to him(and vice versa)

FTR, I really don’t care one way or the other with his appointment, My point was I’d have preferred signing him as a player. As an assistant, it doesn’t really do much for me.
