Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Man if you don’t think there’s going to be a downturn in Galvins performances , then I don’t know what to tell you . I’m not saying it will be 6 weeks , a season , or like Tim smith or Mortimer junior a one year wonder … I’m not saying any of that , it’s just inevitable there will be a downturning performance , in which Galvin and the club will have to counter . I mean we saw it really , well the beginnings of it , at the end of last year .
Im not going to fanboy a 19 year old .hes a prodigy to be sure , and i hope he can lead us to glory , but there’s a reason nearly every player suffers from the dreaded “second year syndrome” . The best ones just only suffer from it for a few games , and move forward … the worst ones , well I just mentioned a couple .
I don't understand why anything other than continued improvement this season would be the expectation for Galvin.

Outside of opposition clubs then having a season to study a rookie, where is the evidence a second year syndrome is anything but outdated myth?

Buzz was at Tigers' training ground on the players day off and it's good to see 5 players were still there doing extras. The little changes make the big changes a reality
The players that don’t need to be there (Luai, Turuva) were, the players that should’ve been there weren’t

We’re talking about a bloke who was cut by his previous club just a few years ago because he wasn’t good enough, and in that time we have turned him into the hottest prospect in the game.

How is the fact he didn’t play well away from our setup proof of poor development here, where he has thrived?

The bloke would have walked it in for rookie of the year had he not been suspended. And we’ve just brought in on of the best halves in the game to take pressure off him. I don’t know what more you want?
LOL we didnt develop him much at all.
He impressed during the pre season and so was chucked in to starting 5/8th in the NRL team.
This resulted in yet another last place finish.
Benji should know better...we didnt develop him either. Had he come through a decent setup, the Marshal name would be spoken about as a future immortal, without fan bias attached.

Guaranteed it was only the 5 new signings

What do you mean the tigers didn't develop Benji? Didn't they grab him from nz and put him in Keebra Park (where he was still a student when he debuted)?

Or do you mean the player he eventually became? Because honestly, I think he became a better player overall away from WT.

Depends how you define better. He matured and learned to run a team around the park better.
His flair and off the cuff play he was notorious for was all at the Tigers. Won the golden boot in 2010 I think it was as a Tiger.

That was all mostly natural instinct.
He was doing all the same stuff as an Oztag and touch player.

Agree. Galvin was an 18 year old kid playing week in week out in an underachieving and eventually wooden spoon team. Give the kid a break - He showed us enough to suggest he will develop nicely playing alongside Luai..

Thats not a given and is likely the reason his family is pushing for a new start elsewhere.
As per the point we were discussing.
It doesnt matter a shit how good he currently is, its all about how good he can become and thats where the development debate is being held.

I'm not being cynical, but I feel like there is this false prestige attached to the Golden boot; it's like people think it is awarded to the best player in the world that year.

It's not. It is awarded to the player adjudged to have been the best player in international games that year.
