Don't understand the logic of Doueihi at 7 and Fainu on the bench.... AD isn't and never has been a halfback.

Hate seeing Twal at lock too. I don't mind him as a middle but he does not have the passing ability to play there

Benji is 5 years behind on moving the footy in the middle of the field. Lock is a position we massively lack
I had not heard that about Klemmer.Wibble wibble
Where did u hear this one?

Funny how all the talk is not taking any notice of trials until the teams are picked and the depth players are given an opportunity to show their worth
I’m not laughing?
I want my team to win every game in every grade.
I seem to remember 20k odd fans giving the team a standing ovation at a trial a few years back - guessing they were paying attention?

First we hear, don’t pay attention to the trials, then we hear - we need to give the team a few rounds for the new combos to gel (like that’s not what trials are for) then all of a sudden it’s Anzac Day and we haven’t won a fkn game…
then we’ve “just gotta wait till next year when the new signings get here”

We’ve signed half a dozen new starting 13 players and none of them will have played together - and we’re kicking off the season with a couple winnable games..
I don’t see how having no miles in new combos helps that?

I know it sure would have helped us to not get whipped by a terrible titans side or an under strength knights team missing a couple of their best - like we have the last couple years.
2 more points can be the difference between a 3rd spoon and not - as we now know.

I’m a little confused why everyone is so fired up about these selections for a trial game. I understand the “need for game time with new players and combos” argument, but I think if some players are carrying niggles or aren’t fully recovered from a previous injury it makes a whole lot more sense to ensure they are fit and firing come round 1.

Bula, Luai and Turuva have all had well documented injuries. Bula had a fairly serious shoulder injury requiring surgery so the coaching staff are probably making sure that it heals properly before returning. Additionally, Turuva and Luai have had their own minor injuries and all these 3 will be highly important to the team throughout the season so I would much rather they fully recover to reduce the chance of re-injuring so they can play more games throughout the year.

Olams knees are bust. Lots of reports on here about him and NRL site lists him as injured (knee) with allegedly a round 1 return (if it’s serious I’d expect later).

Luke Laulilii reportedly has a head knock. He’s had many so that makes sense that he’ll be out for a while. Hope he sorts it out as I’m a big fan of him.

Klemmer was a late withdrawal from the first trial so I thought his chances of playing the second were going to be low as he is likely carrying some injury.

I think those were all the noteworthy players missing (please correct if wrong). At least 4 of them are confirmed injured/rehabbing, 1 reported (LukeL) and 1 inferred (Klem). I don’t think these players missing should be a big surprise to anyone. Anyone who knows anything about sporting injuries knows that if you take shortcuts through the recovery process you are highly likely to re-injure the same area in the short-term. It’s a trial match, please calm down.

Additionally, Manly have not named DCE, Turbo, Brooks, Olakau’atu. Penrith named a reserve grade team (assume most going to Vegas and being rested). Eels haven’t named Moses, Brown and probably others (I don’t know their team). The other teams have named mostly strong squads, but some players are still rested. We are also playing eels in round 2 so there may also be some strategical reasoning with selections, but that’s just speculation.

Furthermore, a lot of people are concerned about Doueihi. To be fair he is like the 4th best half at the club so given Luai isn’t playing he kind of has to be in the line up unless you want Galvin and Fainu to play 80 minutes each. I heard a lot about Galvin and Latu not gelling well in the first trial so he’s probably there so they can play with Doueihi instead of each other for a period of time. Yeah I agree he (Doueihi) isn’t the greatest player and I’d hope he spends the year playing reserve grade, but we have unlimited interchanges and we probably don’t want to burn Galvin and LFainu out, particularly as they are both likely to be in the round 1 team (Latu as 14).

To be honest most of these selections make sense to me from the information I know/can infer. With the injuries this is probably the strongest we can put out (yeah it’s not flattering but the missing 7 are mostly highly valuable players) and the better players from the first trial seem to have been rewarded with a second (Faataape, Kit, Hope).

Once again it’s just a trial so you guys shouldn’t get too worked up, but I do agree the lack of information from the club particularly around injuries is certainly frustrating.

Certain feeling footy fever starting to begin again. Can’t wait for Round 1 to come around. Let’s go Tigers!

Good rational post

If we lose the first 5 games it won’t be because seasoned rep players needed to participate in a bullshit trial for sheep stations .
It will be because we well and truely shot the bed . The middles are all getting a run and blowing the cobwebs out . Outside of that , I couldn’t care less . Seeing some continuity in defence would also help my mind , although that eels spine doesn’t look like it will pose a massive threat .
So strong edge defence , middles powering through tackles , and a clear continuity throughout the team will do me .
You don’t win premierships in February my guy . But you sure can lose them by playing players who arnt 💯.
Well said

You can take what ever position you want and some will agree with you and others wont. Some coaches are playing their strongest squad others aren't.
I can see why coaches take either option without knowing the reasons they make those decisions.
Players still carry niggles don't need to aggreviate injury in a trial match and I can guarantee the decisions made rightly or wrongly are done so on the back of more information than we fans are privy to.

Fair play - not many coaches coming off 3 wooden spoons

Maybe the plan RHS is for Twal to play the 1st 20 or so as a 3rd prop and lock down the middle defensively & then the Bird is unleashed once defences are a bit tired. Then Twal goes into prop rotation.
I would guess that they don’t have much of a game plan, it’s portably more about building match fitness, building some combinations and not getting injured.
