WT v Knights round 1 ‘25 predictions

I'd be very happy with a 25-18 win or any win after seeing the Knights play today.

Yeah I know it was only a trial and I know we have had our spine missing but I'm not sure if we can contend with the pace and strike they have out wide especially when we haven't had an opportunity for our best 17 to have a run together.

I see discipline still being a bit of an issue for us.

Games v Knights have been scrappy affairs in recent years. Turn it into a dog fight & back the class in our key positions.

Limit mistakes and get an even share of posession and your a chance in any game at the beginning of the season. Too early to tell which teams will be up there other than a couple of the usual suspects.

Watched it with a roosters fan (going home to shower now). Newy good but he was filthy on Robbo for the weakness in their squad, especially centre and half. Townsend and the young bloke outside him were terrible, but we have shown that we can defend like that especially against Best from memory.

Yeah why they got Townsend I have no idea. He was too slow two years ago let alone now.

The play out the back to Tedesco who turns back in happened every time. That attack won't cut it this year.

We're more then a chance of competing with their pack.
before the Easts vs Newcastle game I was thinking we had a chance.

Now... Newcastle mowd down Angus Crichton, Lindsay and the easts first grade pack. I think this may be because both regular superstar Centers have left...

I am pretty worried about round 1. That said, would like the team to prove me wrong. We don't win or at least be highly competitive vs newcastle it will be a long 2025.

Man that Bradman Best can be quiet through games but when he injects himself what a weapon.
Never forget when I was a young bloke playing in the second row. We came up against a team that had the current vice captain of the Australian schoolboys who was a centre.
My coach told me I’d be at centre marking him.
When I said he was too fast for me he gave me this advice… make him run slower.
Mind you this was early seventies 🤣

What else did the coaching staff tell you?
Don’t need to have a conversation with the club to see how they’re thinking . And pretty much how the rest of the nrl thinks . How do I know ? One guy is barely 20 , played schoolboy reps , captained his club in a trial , and is barely 20 .
The other is 27 , peaked as a squad player for the broncos 20s , and has toiled admirably in Q cup waiting his time , and now at the ripe old age of 27 should do a job for us .
Just for reference this is the type of player we used to bargain him shop for , and everyone used to lose thier mind about, because we couldn’t attract anyone better .
Guys like Gordinet , Smith , Wakeham etc.
I hope Hope gets an nrl contract and can leverage that into a 5-7 year career to set himself up .
But he’s 27 and not made nrl for a reason . So I’m not stupid enough to jump at shadows over a trial game .

Wouldn't be a Tigers forum if we didn't turn on one of the more promising juniors in the squad due to a poor tackle & angled to get the career Q-Cup guy in front of him...

Da Silva is fine, should & will be starting at 9 against the Knights.

Hope, hopefully, gets himself a contract to play KOE & who knows? Maybe he gets a couple of opportunities if Api plays SOO & Da Silva starts?

I'd like Hope to offer quality direction & leadership to the KOE squad- making them competitive & getting used to winning again.

Api and TDS sharing FG duties with Hope in Ressies. If Hope has the goods it will be him and Api sharing the hooking role with TDS in ressies at the end of the season. Let Hope fight and push TDS - either way we win in the hooker stakes.

Line up for the opening round…..
Assuming all players are available other than Olam. My team as follows:
Bula
Turuva
Toa
AD
Skelton
Galvin
Luai
May
TDS (Api unavailable)
Pole
Sam F
Bird
Twal

Latu
Hunt
Sione F
Seyfarth

Kit L (18th man)
Totally agree, except just no to Toa. Average player at best, I’ve got Naden there if injured, Faatape for me. He looks to have a combination with Skeleton, 3 tries in two trials and only 12 minutes in the second. Bunji should of put him in earlier in the game with Naden out.
He’s what we need an attacking weapon, toa is just boring!
