After seeing some promising signs with the Manly squad during the pre season, Seibs comes up with a plan for some off field competition to develop comaradarie. He decides to pit his players against each other in a gladiator style arena. The rules are that each player is given a wooden sword and a shield and if you get hit with the sword you are out. With the winner proceeding to the next round. When only one is left standing he will be crowned as the club's gladiator. He lines the squad up tallest to shortest and pairs them up by height. Luke Brooks at 179 cm and DCE at 183cm are paired off and are first to go into combat as the shortest pairing at the club.
Expecting a titanic struggle from the flyweights of the club the players gather round the westling mat. DCE, as usual, is looking pretty cocky and don's the helmet and picks up his wooden sword and shield. Luke picks up his wooden sabre and kicks the shield to the corner of the wrestling mats. He stands facing DCE swinging his sabre manacingly. There is excitement in the air, and plenty backing Brooksy, given his confidence with the sabre. Secretly they're also keen to see DCE given a bit of a touch up to bring him down a peg
The match begins and DCE charges in and smacks Brooks right in the side of the head with his sword; knocking him out instantly (both literally and from the competition). Seibs is concerned and comes rushing over to see how Luke is. When he comes to he asks "Like, why didn't you even try to defend yourself with the shield?" Brooks relied "Sorry Seibs, I've never lifted a shield in my life"
