Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Have you watched Makasini recently?
A player with good potential no doubt, but he’s still a long way from being NRL ready, he’s a dominant left sided player and it’s highly likely he will start off as a winger when initially stepping up to playing against men.
Agree. Masi has huge potential as a current 17yo against 19yos, has great physical attributes & skill with the ball.

Atm just seems to have a quiet passive demeanour and I haven’t seen him use his size to aggressive effect in defence. I hope part of his development is using his size to be more aggressive, increasing his effort plays & demanding the ball rather than waiting for the ball.

I think time on the wing later this season in Flegg & Cup will help.

Notbthe worst thing to happen for parra.

Brown is not a 1.x million dollar player.
He’s got similar vibes to Jarryd Hayne . Obviously not as a playing type or anything . But rather , had 1 season where he helped take his team almost all the way , and while he’s been good in patches since , hes not lived up to those lofty heights the eels and titans paid millions of dollars to get a glimpse of .

Any suggestions?

Benji has a cousin named Haze Dunster
He doesn't ever seem to be up to much
Maybe he could come and do a job...
A cuzi-Bro that we can pay overs to warm our bench?

What are we punting Klemmer/Olam/Bateman for then?
Rightly or wrongly, were building cap space. Since were building cap space, lets sign someone worth that space.

Sure, if we punt Staines + Toa + Naden/AD.. Sign Haze.
Sure if he is 130k min value and we get the space (we don't have it now) sign Haze.

Otherwise, don't want him/don't need him.

At the moment we have:
Bird, Naden, Olam?, Faataape, AD, Turuva, Toa who can all play center and we don't have a recognized 2RF that can run and pass..

If Best or Mitchell Latrell come on the market, Sure lets talk Centers.

Otherwise we actually have to develop who we have signed. We can't target good forwards and blow our cap on the back row as well.

I reckon Brown is another Ponga.
Just happy to get paid and live the life.
Winning takes a backseat.

Definitely lacking the killer instinct and win at all costs attitudes, that guys like Cleary and Munster have displayed.

Two of em in one team....
Non stop party.

As for Galvin, Moses won't like the way he played last week. It's the Moses show.

Could you imagine the spray from Moses . What’s the famous line “ Get the F out of the way , you useless C “ wasn’t it ? Or am I misremembering .
At the very least he’d want a thick skin .

Interesting Brown is off to Newcastle .. when there is some doubt in Ponga staying there as the Rorters as showing interest in him .. ?? The Chooks are looking for a 1 and 6 .. and Galvin is on their watch list .. !!

Makes you wonder how Newcastle will be managing their salary cap, it’s been reported that Ponga was the games highest paid player on 1.4 million per season and now Brown on 1.3 million per season, that’s a lot of cap space taken up by 2 players.
Surely the Broncos will not be able to pay Staggs any more than 700k maxiimum, Wests Tigers being desperate for a quality right sided centre and someone that can also goal kick quite well, I wonder if we would go as high as 800k maybe a touch more to try and sign Staggs ?
Yes we need a back rower, but there is absolutely nobody worthwhile available, it might mean we have to try and make Jack Bird work as our right edge back rower for a couple of seasons and possibly look at signing a 13 who adds value, but won’t cost too much, I think Adam Elliott would be worth a look as he will likely be looking for a Sydney club to allow him to be living with his pregnant wife.
1. Bula
2. Turuva
3. Staggs
4. Taylan May
5. Skelton
6. Galvin
7. Luai
13. Elliott
12. Bird
11. Samuela Fainu
10. Pole
9. Korisau
8. Terrell May
14. Latu Fainu / Da Silva
15. Seyfarth / Sione Fainu
16 Twal
17. Hunt

** Looks a much more formidable potential line up for 2026.
Yep, except you've got that rangey ageing Bird as our go to right edge forward and I think Elliot is no spring chicken.

And then the puff in the paper's could imagine it now

Galvins mental health disorders being coached by Benji is a nightmare

His manager has found away to save him by relocating him to a new club
To be fair, I think Galvin's Mental issues stem from an over-achieving parenting expectation. Parra's scouts didn't rate him. Skinny White Ball Hogs are very low on the radar. He is also quite inarticulate and shows signs of being a real dopey kid who will be easily led by mephisto agents and players. It's one thing to run the ball in a game but it's another thing to earn respect in the gang! He simply hasn't done anything yet. In other words - if he don't produce soon, his gang will gang up on him! That's how the street kids work.

Dylan Brown has informed teammates he intends to leave the Eels with the Parramatta playmaker poised to ink a massive $13 million deal with Newcastle.
This masthead can reveal Brown is on the verge of agreeing terms on a 10-year contract with the Knights in a bombshell move that will rip apart his scrumbase partnership with Eels halfback Mitchell Moses.

Newcastle are confident they have got their man - until the end of 2035 - with Brown to celebrate the richest deal in the NRL’s 117-year history.

Titans skipper Tino Fa’asuamaleaui signed a $12 million deal with the Gold Coast two years but Brown’s impending move to Newcastle from 2026 will make him the richest contract holder in rugby league.

It is understood Brown has told teammates he won’t be at Parramatta next season in a crippling blow to the Eels following Sunday’s 56-18 thrashing against the Storm.

The Eels were hoping to retain Brown on his existing nine-year deal, laced with two get-out clauses, but the Knights’ offer is simply too good to refuse.

Only an eleventh-hour change of heart will stop Brown leaving, with the Eels pivot having a 10-day cooling off period to renege on a move to Newcastle.

Brown has not formally inked a Knights deal at this stage, but Newcastle bosses are confident the Kiwi Test pivot will formalise his future in the coming days.

Newcastle’s impending poaching of Brown is a huge coup for the Knights as the club looks to give superstar fullback Kalyn Ponga a classy partner-in-crime in the club’s quest to snap a 24-year title drought.

Brown faces giving up an estimated $6.4 million by rejecting Newcastle’s offer and the $1.3 million offer from the Knights will be enough to seal the Kiwi’s mega defection.

Brown is happy at Parramatta - and the initial sentiment was that he would lean towards staying - but the magnitude of the rival offers has stunned the Eels pivot and given him food for thought.

In the wake of Parramatta’s grand-final campaign in 2022, Brown signed a long-term extension until the end of 2031, albeit with a series of clauses that allowed him to explore the market.

The Eels are fighting hard to retain Brown.

It’s understood they have been given the opportunity to match the 10-year deals put forward by the Knights and a second club, but Parramatta bosses are happy to stick to their original deal.

The remainder of Brown’s Eels contract is worth around $6.6 million.

The Kiwi World Cup star can ostensibly double his earnings by inking a lifetime $13m Knights deal until the end of 2035.

Brown has until round 10 to make a decision but the veteran of 123 NRL games is ready to make a definitive call now.

The $1.3 million-a-season deals will see Brown join Newcastle champion Ponga ($1.4m), Penrith’s Nathan Cleary ($1.3m) and Storm’s Cameron Munster ($1.3m) as the highest-paid players in the code.

Brown would also usurp the $1.25m-a-season earned by Eels halves partner Mitchell Moses, who earlier this month appealed for his scrumbase cohort to keep the faith.

“That’s up to Dyl, I hope he stays, I love him, I love him to death,” Moses said.

“I feel like I play my best footy with Dylan. That’s a decision he’s going to have to make in due course.

“It’s up to him, you (have to) give him as much time as he wants.”
Imo this is madness. We thought Luai on 1.25 million a year was a stretch. He won 4 comps in a row as a 5/8 and origin series. Dylan Brown hasn't done anything. Funny thing is it points to Parra being on the slide, no doubt now they will go hell for leather for Galvin, but honestly why would you go there.

What's a better contract

Brown at 1.3 for 10 years or
Luai at 1.2 for 5 years

Better player with less risk.

💯 Wests Tigers
Hard to say. Brown has more longevity, is more physical and is quicker with I would say just as much skill.
The big difference is in the nature. Luai is a fighter and wants to be in everything. Brown sits back and waits for his moments.

Interesting listening to NCleary talk about the benefit of Brown as a 7. Mentioned how square he plays at the line and will set up a lot of time and space for his backrowers and centres.
Coming from the master of playing square and engaging the line to play with shape.

It doesn’t mean anything

Luai is free to negotiate with clubs this November 1 for 2027.

You don’t think his manager is going to try and get a ten year deal somewhere for more money that brown?

This year will either be great and we’ll keep both luai and galvin OR we lose both of them and we sack benji and we start all over again

It’s going to be very very interesting

Literally boom or bust for the next ten years - like teddy and moses leaving

By Galvin signing with Parramatta he is agreeing to go back to being a side kick and being on his least preferred side. I don’t see it happening.
Moses is predominantly a right sided player and Brown plays on the left so it would be Galvin’s preferred side.

Parra are the ones who rejected Galvin, but I believe that was similar story to Moses before he signed.

Galvin will have plenty of clubs after him, it’s up to the club to convince him there is a future here. He’s not the only one we should be worried about.

Newcastle as stupid and they will suffer.

We just need to book on guard from poachers.
