Juniors - Pathways General Discussion

Sure Makasini, Taupau moors, Godinet and Haywood. But thing is none of them have stood out at sg ball level. If they can't dominate at that level they're hardly in a position to be pushed up to flegg.

But also having the rest of the sg ball teams being made up of mediocre small and slow players makes it hard for them to be able to stand out.

We also need to recruit much more from other regions. It is chat that the talent we have in our region is simply not good enough. So we don't just settle for whatever we have, we should be scouting all of Australia and New Zealand to bring the best junkies to our club. But seemingly we don't.
Anything positive to add about the pathways?

wtf you talkin about...its 17-16 illawara 50 minutes according to nswrl
We scored 2 tries in 2 mins.

Now 27-16, game over. Our halves are atrocious, fullback hopeless. Realistically Glassie has been excellent, the hooker Milford has been very good, French was solid, and despite numerous hospital passes Richards has been somewhat solid. But really there's very few prospects in this side.

your a goldfish stuck in a bowl - what do you expect apar tfrom a few losses across the club a year . Going by this years graph (no name dropping) the club is on the up from last year
We're not talking first grade here.

The talent we have in Cup, Flegg, Ball and Matts is well behind every other club. That's where we are, yet we state how fantastic our juniors are, but they're simply not that good.

I'm talking about performance, not scoreboard. We deserved to lose by 30+. You can't complete at 20% and hope to win a match, much less a grand final. That's what we did in the first half. And our halves were so bad that it was only if Glassie took every hit up that we might have had a chance to win.

I can’t comment on Laurie Daley Cup as I didn’t watch it, but in regards to the talented player argument, I strongly believe Christian Taupau-Moors and Riley Oitmann both have exceeded expectations this season and are two of the SG Ball competition standouts.
Taupau-Moors has a good strong , tall and lean physique and is a natural enforcer which is a rarity at his young age. If he doesn’t play NRL within 3 years I’m a bad judge.
Oitmann is on the smaller side, but is blistering fast and always looking to make a difference, very similar to a young Papenhauzen. It’s 50/50 if these types of players become regular NRL players or not, but we would surely be keeping him contracted to us to find out.

To be fair, aren’t Makasini, CTM and Godinet all Ball eligible next year as well?

They just lost a GF and you’re in here laying the boot in?
STFU and go elsewhere with your sulking.
Bad luck today boys, but congrats on your campaign.

He’s been upset over our juniors for a while now, probably more so than anyone else on here. I think he won’t stop being upset over our juniors unless they win every grade.

I'm getting those Pies warmed up for tomorrow

He’s got massive issues with the wests side of the club . Every time he talks about them it’s negative . He’s clearly in the Balmain JRL in some form or the other .
To be fair Wests have mismanaged the Wests Tigers and the Western Suburbs Magpies prior to the merge for a very long time, not putting the jab in its just an unfortunate fact, and before anyone asks no I wasn’t a Wests or Balmain fan prior to the merge. Supported our club after the merge already happened although my dad and my pop were Balmain fans originally. But yeah he’s had some issues with our juniors for a while now.

I’m not trying to be a jerk , I just don’t understand what that has to do with criticising 15 year olds , and the choices a club makes on which 15 year olds are worth recruiting .
When all you have to do is look around the nrl and every team and see there 2-3 tigers juniors in most of them .
The issue isn’t development it’s retention . And has been really , since the 90s for both parent clubs .

I agree it’s been an issue for a long time, but these days Wests control pretty much all our clubs lower grades with Balmain basically broke. Although Balmain did struggle as well in the 90s in that department. I agree the criticism today probably was not warranted, at least the way he did it anyway. Does the club need to be better? Yes 100% but there has been some improvement compared to last year when Balmain went winless across both HM and SG and aren’t last in either grade.
