Juniors - Pathways General Discussion

Very important retention! Great work Wests Tigers! Now for Logan Brookes please 🙂
Huge retention! Yep, I reckon Brookes is the other key one we should be locking up!

I read on the Balmain Tigers facebook page that Logan might be back for SG Ball in 2 to 3 weeks. The source appeared to be Jared Haywood's dad, so you would think he would have some knowledge on it too.

I'm curious to see how Wests Ball go this weekend. I didn't think they were as impressive last weekend as others did but they beat a pretty solid Steelers team. It may be coincidence but at least on the broadcast the crowd really got stuck into the ref at the start of the second half and calls started flowing for the Steelers. A ref meltdown live and recorded.

Wests Matts were very unlucky to lose. The Steelers #1 was immense and stood up when needed.

Side note, Steelers might have the most Anglo team in the league, a rarity in city league comps these days.

Another excellent performance from Balmain Ball in an entertaining game against the Dogs. The Dogs are still a smokey to win the comp for mine. Some very, very big boys and some fast players in the backs but silly errors (no marker at dummy half, for example) cost you against this Balmain side. Down 10-0 to start the game but Balmain put on 28 points after that and sealed it at the death. Considering their star, Logan Brookes, is out perhaps for the whole season they are playing very well.

Wests Ball also won a close one against Warriors, 5 tries to 3 but only 1/5 in conversions. Nothing convincing but they know how to score points. Makasini has kicked dreadfully and must be about 50% for the season. Godinet again outstanding.

It is not clicking for Wests Matts. They got run over again by a huge Warriors team, with the ref perhaps calling the ruck a bit too tight.

Great weekend for the club with only one loss so far. There are still two games to be played which were postponed due to flooding on the weekend and hopefully both teams progress to finals.

AJC - final round game this Sunday. There are 5 teams still in contention for the finals. Two of them (Titans and Macarthur Wests Tigers) are yet to play due to their postponed games. Equation is pretty simple - win and the boys are in the finals. If they lose, it must be by less than 14 to play finals.

LFC - The girls are sitting well in contention with 3 rounds remaining. 6 teams get through and they are in 5th currently.

HMC - both squads are struggling and need to dig deep in these final 3 rounds. Wests have a bye up their sleeve, but after 4 losses on the trot, they look gone.

LDC - final round game this Sunday. There are 5 teams still in contention for the finals. Three of them (Titans, NC Bulldogs and Macarthur Wests Tigers) are yet to play due to their postponed games. Equation is pretty simple - win and the boys are in the finals. If they lose, it must be by less than 20 to play finals.

TGC - The girls are flying with only the one loss so far. Look very likely to make the finals, sitting in 3rd when the top 6 progress.

SGB - Both teams are in contention with Wests enjoying a comeback from the dead. 3 wins in a row now. Balmain looking strong with only one loss. No byes in this comp so must keep consistent.

Logan is signed for the next three years. He has been outstanding for the Tigers. There will be a better gauge of his talent in the next few weeks as the Tigers play the better teams in the SG Ball comp. They just got home v the Bulldogs last week, the dogs moved Tigers Junior Alex Conti and four others to Flegg Alex dominated and he continued his booming SG Ball form.

The Wests Ball team is the smoky they are coming home hard and fast, just hoping the early losses don't cost them a semi's spot.

Thanks for the update @ROZELLE.O.G that's great news Logan is locked in for a few years.

There have been some reports he may be back in 2-3 weeks from his knee injury which will be just in time for finals of SG Ball provided Balmain make it (which they should).

I enjoy reading your feedback on our junior teams, can you tell me if we have anyone coming through with raw speed ?
IMO
Something our side really need.

Ok, so I got the finsh places wrong for Laurie Daley Cup. The boys came second in the Southern Pool and therefore made the Semi's.

Andrew Johns Cup - the boys came second in the Southern Pool and play their semi final this Sunday @1pm in Cessnock against the first placed side from the Northern Pool - NMR Knights. Both teams finished the year 4 & 1.

Laurie Daley Cup - the boys came second in the Southern Pool and play their semi final this Sunday @11.20am in Port Maquarie against the first placed side from the Northern Pool - the undefeated NC Bulldogs.

Wish both squads all the best.

Results and standings after the weekend's rounds:

This round resulted in a fair bit of carnage for the club with only 2 teams from 8 cracking it for a win.

A lot of work to do in the final two weeks to make the finals for some of them - SG Ball Balmain, Tarsha Gale, Lisa Fiaola. Good luck to them.

The last two weeks are to be played for pride for some of them - SG Ball Wests, Harrold Mathews Balmain and Harrold Mathews Wests. Dissappointing seasons but still a chance to stand up.

Macarthur Wests Tigers in the Andrew Johns Cup unfortunately lost their semi final and finished a respectable 3rd for the season.

Macarthur Wests Tigers in the Laurie Daley Cup had an excellent victory against the undefeated competition leader who smashed seven shades out of them the week prior, to win their semi final and advance to the decider. For those living in Canberra, this game is played @ GIO Stadium from 1.15pm this Saturday.

So we went 0/5 last weekend. What an abysmal display from our junior rep sides. Scrapping the barrel to try find a couple of prospects who might be able to step up a level.
We keep saying how we're got these great juniors, but wake up call. Every other club has standout juniors too, and there's are usually better than ours.

Regardless of this I’m pretty certain that every rival club in the NRL would find a spot for Makasini and Taupau-Moors if they were available and I’d say a fair few rival teams would be keen on Riley Oitmann, Logan Deininger and Jared Haywood also.
So it’s not as if we have no talent coming through, it’s just they are split up into 2 teams and we don’t have enough quality from 1-17 within these teams.

Maybe if the quality is spread too thin it's time to merge where there are 2 teams in the same comp.

Or mayby you get more NRL talent out of 2 teams even if you have slightly worse results in Sg Ball and HMatts. If you went to one team would the best juniors from Inner West Travel all the way to compbelltown to train and play or would they stop off at any of the 7 clubs that are closer.

Where were your posts in the weeks when we won 4 or 5 out of 6, or even 2 out of 6?

Galvin and TDS are juniors and at the moment seem to be better than others. Our juniors are fine and we do have some great prospects.

I'd also ask whether it is more important to have great juniors or more important to keep the right ones?

Good point after all the final goal is to get as much talent as possible through to 1st grade and the number of juniors going forward will only get larger.
