How did Luke L go today? Think he will be needed soomer rather than later...
I mean we were very short of backs today - Skelton, Douehi, Naden, Staines, Olam(or replacement) all unavailable from our top 30 in the outside backs. 3 should be back next week and hopefully we fill one of the 3 open positions with an outside back and Faatape never seen in nrl again

I just watched the NSW Cup game.
Sukkar was really the only forward who looked like breaking tackles or penetrating the defence, but he leaves a lot to be desired when he is defending, doesn’t make much effort unless they run straight at him.

This is an abysmal side, poorly coached too. Not a single player who is remotely close to consideration for first grade. We're missing players sure, but the players out there are too small, too slow and too dumb. Realistically, if any of these players are still with us next season, other than maybe Tim J, we are a horribly unambitious club.

Mason is not a fullback, he should never player there again. In any grade. Halves are crap, forwards are limp, backs weak. Warriors blew us away. We should be targetting a few of their boys, they have so much talent in every grade and we have none.

b boy how long have you followed this club or its ghosts. Your enthusiasm to rag out the lower grades is relentless.

How about we just copy and paste your thoughts on every game in every grade and just put it down in every thread for the next few years.

It might save you the time to do it yourself.

Or, how about you extend your analytical prowess to find some positives in and amongst some disappointment?

For someone who seems to follow the pathways quite closely and has his finger on the button, the only thing you produce in response to a loss of any description is just derivative, dramatic, repeated, negative bullshit.

Stop taking the soft option and look deeper.

Johannssen? He was poor. His feet were in concrete blocks in defence. Failed to fill the space on numerous occasions. I wonder if he’s fully fit?

Team was on top for most of first half. Dumb play cost them.

And there are no x-factor players in this cup team.
Mason has x-factor, but no idea why he finds it so tough to catch a high ball ?
Surely he staying back an hour after each training session and catching constant high balls until he perfects it ?
Liles shows some talent, but very hard for ball players when there is only minimal momentum from each ball carry and all your edges (second rowers and centres) just continually run boring, predictable lines.

Some stats from yesterday's game ...

Run Metres / Post Contact Metres
Mason 154m / 55m
Luke Laulilii 148m / 55m
Aho 122m / 51m
Murray 116m / 47m

Tackles / Misses + Ineffective
Hope 44 / 4
Porter 33 / 4
Murray 27 / 1
Aho 22 / 1

FYI Tony Sukkar - 91m from 10 runs with 46m PCM, 15 tackles with 4 misses/ineffective, 0 tackle breaks.
Jacob Laban for the Warriors made 108m for 10 runs with 52m PCM, 33 tackles with 3 misses/ineffective.

Couple of takeaways for us is Vaka Aho's performance off 48 mins played. Putting his hand up as our leading middle in Cup in recent weeks. Charlie Murray also put in his best match of the season so far at lock.

I’m not convinced about Aho just yet as I don’t think he always runs the ball hard enough for a man of his size, but he keeps improving so the light switch might soon turn on for him to realise how good he can be and that playing regular NRL could be a realistic option if he simply prepares himself to run the ball hard and tackle hard.
I don’t mind the look of Charlie Murray, he’s a very good link man with ball in hand and has a good show and go also. I haven’t paid enough attention to his defence, but if he’s defensively solid he is good enough to play some NRL for us real soon.
As previously mentioned Sukkar has the size and is slowly starting to get the confidence to run the ball hard against men and utilise he size and mobility, but there are big question marks about his defensive commitment.
It seems a common theme for our young emerging back rowers as Broederlow and Taotua both also show plenty of promise from an attacking point of view, but are suspect with their defence.

Why are you such a loser? Ive been watching our list grades for a long time. Previously while our NRL squad sucked we were still very competitive in the lower grades.
This year there is no outstanding talents in our cup squad. Or in our flegg squad. All of our junior rep sides are likely to miss finals, with very few talented players pushing through the grades.

Not a single player with X factor in any of our Lower grades. No players with any outstanding physical traits.

I celebrate our wins and our promising young players and have done so for many years. At the moment we're a laughing stock, and I'm not amused. You don't seem to care, maybe that's all the wine.

Some fans want us to be better, to win games and maybe one day a competition. That's me. Some fans are happy to come last every year. That's you.

There are no positives at the moment. Nearly every player we have in all of our squads isn't good enough to be there. There's a reason we lose every week in every grade. Our players get dominated by their opposition. Our players aren't strong enough to win the ruck, they're not skillful enough to make a break and beat their opponent, they're too slow to finish an opportunity when it arises or to chase down and opponent.

All of our lower grades are fundamentally flawed with players lacking the physical attributes or creativity to make a difference. Not a single player at the club with X factor. Not one. In. Any grade.

Yet almost every other club managed to find some, in every grade. Something is seriously wrong at the club. And I think Betsey has to pay the consequences for his massive failure.

Could I elaborate and say our opponents ran with more intensity, tried to offload, kicked Cleverley, had line speed in defence and had players who simply beat our guys one on one. Sure, but that also gets repetitive, and the root cause of why we suck is the same every week at present.
And then we create a culture not built around hard work, but handing youngsters nrl contacts on a silver platter. They think they're rock stars when they'd be in Flegg at any other (professional) club.

I don’t know Betsey or follow our pathways closely but I admit to being worried when Pascoe brought a cricket guy into such a key role. The two sports and the athletes who play the games are poles apart.
