Yeah, I agree with that. In this case does the winning depend on the coach or the players involved? I reckon if they recruited slightly older players they'd win more in Cup but those guys development is limited compared to the younger players we have. I think it all points at the coach for now if we're talking about winning.
Think BWG has covered it well rih.
I think we are juniors and reserves tragics 😆

Agree with everything you've said.

Also don't get why Tim J plays so little. I think Sukkar is quite mobile for his size and seems dedicated to what he does. There's an NRL player in there I think and he'll play some this year no doubt. He's been better than Porter so far.
Good chance Sukkar gets a run next game will be a good test to see if he's ready to stand up and be noticed, good young players don't waste chances to establish themselves in 1st grade.

I think recuitment at Cup level is a step in the right direction this season with experience in Hope, Falls, Charlie Murray, Izaak Thompson & Tanner.

I rewatched the game last night & thought we weren’t too bad. I got caught up in frustration watching it live.

A few areas cost us … Kurt Falls handling errors, frustration with the ref, Mason sin-bin & needing another player who can provide s spark.

Falls will shed the rust as it was his 1st match since last year. Needs to stay as halfback.

Mason provides spark & made a crucial break in 2nd half. Just not sure where his best position will be.

When 21yo Max Liles came into game with 20 to go, he provided some direction & composure. This kid just seems to be a winner!

Not sure why the coach is using Tim Johannssen off the bench tbh. He’s a big minute middle like Terrell May. IMO he’d be better starting with Kit and bring Vaka Aho & Rahme off the bench. I’d be pretty certain that coach is under direction to have Kit start and use him in smaller impact mins atm & slowly develop his tank. Aho is solid but has to cut that regular error & penalty from his game.

I watched Sukkar & Porter closely. Sukkar played left (Sam Fainu side). Both were solid. He doesn’t go out of his way to get involved, stays disciplined to team structure. Stats show he was one of our best forwards made 110m & only missed 1 tackle. Not sure he has the effort plays in him at NRL standard but maybe he’s one that adapts to the level he plays at.

When Naden returns from injury, he will make a big difference if he plays in this team.
Always enjoy your summaries and insights of the lower grades. Thanks; and keep it going please.

Thanks for the great summary . How did Kit play, what were his stats like ?

Why is Herman Tofaeono playing Sydney Shield. Sometimes I just don't get the development at this club. Their should be a spot at Flegg or KOE for him and matamua almost every week.
I'd say it's a combination of factors.

1 - behind Tim Johannssen, Kit Laulilii, Vaka Aho, Jaxson Rahme & Noah Johannssen in the young middles pecking order atm.
2 - we've invested in some experience for our NSW Cup team to help guide them this year including middles Charlie Murray & Jayden Tanner.
3 - may not have hit pre-season fitness benchmarks compared to others.

But I'm sure coaches have told him to keep killing it in SS and he will be promoted through this season.

But sydney Shield is rough. Not even Ron Massey
*I apologise, i dont believe he is eligible for Flegg anymore

Just run some stats to help us identify our better performing forwards in NSW Cup first 3 rounds. I only did the stats for NRL or T&Ts

Avg Run Metres
Porter 92m
Johannssen 83m
Sukkar 82m
Rahme 78m
Aho 77m
Laulilii 61m

Run Metres per Minute
Sukkar 10m
Rest 9m & 8m

Post Contact Metres per Run
Sukkar 4.4m
Laulilii 3.8m
Aho 3.8m
Johannssen 3.6m

Avg Tackles
Johannssen 30
Porter 30
Rahme 23
Aho 22

Tackles per Minute
Johannssen 0.71
Aho 0.59
Rahme 0.49
Laulilii 0.38
Porter 0.38
Sukkar 0.36

Avg Missed or Ineffective Tackles
Porter 5.3
Sukkar 4.7
Aho 3.7
Rahme 1.7
Johannssen 1.3
Laulilii 1

To me, even though his minutes have reduced early in the season, on stats Tim Johannssen has been our most effective middle while Tony Sukkar is doing pretty good on an edge.

Thanks BWG, good background
Kit's minimal minutes prompted me to do it just to see how his impact and involvement stacked up. Not too bad, just hope they gradually increase his mins.

I'll be interested to see if someone starts to stand out amongst our forwards over the coming weeks (i.e. takes his game to another level), very even at the moment.

I think sometimes minutes for forwards are also effected by injuries in the backs as it reduces the number of interchanges available. For example Staines came off and back on, the new winger came off and Max Liles the half came on - that's 2 or 3 interchanges you can't use for forwards and when unexpected it means the starting forwards might not get back on or not as early so you don't run out of interchanges
