LIVE GAME Round 4 v Warriors

Live Game Discussion
Luai out against the Broncos with a week suspension. Looks like two teenage halves against two mid-30s halves.

Doubt it if AD is fit.
Not sure Latu is an 80 minute player just as yet... especially up against the Donkeys forwards.
Great to give him a couple of spells fresh against a tiring defence.

win those 2 games and perhaps avoid a fourth. We have 2 very difficult away games coming up and could be 2-4 in no better position than last year. Aren't you sick of all this proud of the effort bullshit
Tony, it's a fine line between the "participation award" mentality, and the reality of where we sit now.
That's my opinion, of course . . . but as I said originally, what more could we have honestly and realistically expected ?
Sure, we could say that we expected to win all 4, but that's a fancy reality.
Many of us, deep down, wanted to see an improvement in results, defence, and our ability to hang in games.
Sure, I hate the mediocrity of following us . . . but in all honesty mate, we have pretty much achieved what most of us had hoped. And to be fair, the bounce of the ball has cost us from leading the comp.
I'm happy with where we are at. I can't wait for Luai and Galvin to actually connect and work even better. But it's bloody strange watching games now, and knowing that realistically we are in with a fair chance. Unlike previous, where you knew pretty much when we got 6 or 20 down, you could go mow the lawn.

We gave Galvin a chance to play 80 and we should be doing the same for Latu.

Whenever Latu has come on, he has made a difference.

I agree, he might get caught out, but the same applies to any relatively new player in the NRL.

Give him a go, I reckon! We are probably going to lose anyway, so let him get some experience under his belt.

Panthers are 1 and 3 already. Dragons just beat the storm in similar conditions. I hate losing too but credit where it is due is the theme here. Would would have lost by 50 points in that game last year. Success doesn’t happen overnight. I think (and must trust) that the people in charge are doing things to achieve success in one of the worst sporting teams in Australia in recent history.

Latu got pinged for a dangerous tackle - he never attempted to make a conventional tackle so I think it was a reasonable penalty.
As for our D - from what I am seeing the effort and scramble is there and the structure is improved but we still don’t attack with our Defence. Our line speed must improve, and our first contact needs to be more aggressive.
In general our players are not driving in with their shoulders hard enough. Too often the opposition ball carrier is up and playing the ball and our guys are still getting up off the ground or rushing to get to marker. This invites momentum from their dummy half resulting in easy yardage and enabling an attacking kick. We have no set markers way too often.
Winning the ruck is an absolute key to winning the game. If we allow top 4 teams to consistently win the ruck in A and D we will never beat them.
Ciraldo gets it- it’s what the Dogs are actually doing really well. That and line speed and kick chase are their best tools.

The penalty’s were fair enough my issue with the refs was the fact the wahs were offside by a meter all game and allowed to slow the ruck down far too much…it’s an inconsistency that needs to be improved

The onus is on the defender not to come in contact with the head.
I agree with Steve, that was BS penalty. Look for this tactic to be the new tie breaker in close games. There was nothing Seyfarth could have done as Klokstad head butted his shoulder. Note how quick the trainers are on the field as soon as someone grabs their jaw or face( bloody quicker than Usain Bolt) to ensure video ref looks at incident.

But if we dare try to w”win the ruck “ we get pinged for a ruck infringement every single time .. last night was blatant double standards ,, the wahd really did get away with murder in the ruck

Who else on here gets the shits when we score a try only for it to be disallowed for obstruction, when will the offender learn to veer away and not interfere with the defender.
Just don't get it they must go through it a 1,000 times at training but still get it wrong, why can't they be smarter and learn.
and this is the moment that cost us the game. defender had no hope of stopping it.

Enjoyed last couple of games.

Side is slowly get to the point where I dont have to look too much to look away.

Defence is a definite improve although defending breakdown traffic is still a worry.

Elephant in the room is what most on here are continually banging on about. Depth is tissue paper thin and our pathways are struggling which is a mystery fir me as far as our enormous catchment area fir talent. Maybe its talent identification, coaching or that we are spreading ourselves far too wide (across both Balmain and Wests Magpies) …. but this needs to be a focus to fix. This years results show that.

We just need to urgently get rid some of the remaining top 30 deadwood and recruit with quality replacements and only then can we attempt to discuss movement up the ladder with any confidence.
