LIVE GAME Round 4 v Warriors

Live Game Discussion
The onus is on the defender not to come in contact with the head.
It's true however there is some talk that CNK has used that rule to his advantage before to draw penalties by deliberately lowering his height into the shoulder.

It's pretty clear Seyfarth didn't lead with the shoulder. It was a clear wrapping motion. Both arms extended. It could have just as easily come in contact with his chest.

The head is contacted on almost every tackle when you think about it.

I agree with Steve, that was BS penalty. Look for this tactic to be the new tie breaker in close games. There was nothing Seyfarth could have done as Klokstad head butted his shoulder. Note how quick the trainers are on the field as soon as someone grabs their jaw or face( bloody quicker than Usain Bolt) to ensure video ref looks at incident.
Of course there was something he could have done. Hit him up under the ball carrying arm rather than go for a full body wrap.

When the shoulder makes first contact with the head, you are usually done.

You mean lower his approach? That or brace for the contact to hit his chest, rather than lead towards with shoulders with the wrapping motion.

We gave Galvin a chance to play 80 and we should be doing the same for Latu.

Whenever Latu has come on, he has made a difference.

I agree, he might get caught out, but the same applies to any relatively new player in the NRL.

Give him a go, I reckon! We are probably going to lose anyway, so let him get some experience under his belt.
Galvin is an 80 minute player… fittest in the club. Bit of a difference.

Full body wrap is how they are taught to stop the ball these days. Sure he could have tackled around the legs. Many options ,but there was nothing wrong with his tackle .Just BS call from the bunker.

Galvin a dancer whilst Latu more direct, two very different styles but can be equally no effective.
However, that pass Galvin laid on to Seyfarth was a thing of beauty, real ball playing skills. We should get to see them together this weekend, up against a couple of old hadheads. That should be an interesting watch !

Mate he hit him in the head with his shoulder. That’s been outlawed for many years now. It was only a penalty as there was no force.
Luai’s one was the strange decision. A couple of years ago that was a straight send off. Didn’t even get binned….that was a BS call from the bunker.

He hit him in the head but it was more CNK hitting his shoulder than the reverse. Seyfarth also has a bit of height on him so makes it harder to adjust, especially in real time with fatigue.
I think by the letter of the law it was a penalty but definitely unlucky and i think that NRL should adopt a similar approach to rugby where they have ā€œmitigating circumstancesā€. I don’t think a game should be decided on that and I wouldn’t be surprised if more attackers play for head contact in these situations.

penalty was harsh but fair. We lost because they ran over us in the last fifteen and couldn’t ice our chances. All and all, a decent effort considering the circumstances just a shame we couldn’t come out on top in a very evenly matched game.

There is gamesmanship for sure. This is professional sport, you take any advantage you can get.
We need to remember that even though this penalty ultimately was the difference, there was still 7-8 minutes of play after it. We had a couple of chances. We had a lot of chances during the game.
That was the loss of a team not experienced in winning games of football. We can blow teams out, but winning the arm wrestle games is still a work in progress.
We need better leadership on field.

True. However it looked sensational at first, one camera angle showed Luai’s chin just reaching over the top of Ed Kosi’s shoulder, Luai didn’t raise his shoulder or drive it specifically into Ed Kosi’s chin so with those angles to consider, given that humans have a neck one would conclude that Kosi dipped his head into Luai’s shoulder to get a penalty.

I was pissed about the Klokstad penalty yesterday, but if the same thing happened down the other end I would've said fair penalty. It comes down to game management and experience. In defence, really need to learn to come off our line harder/quicker and slow the ruck down. We spent most of the game scrambling. Don't know how many times I saw the warriors make 40-50m in attack and we barely make 30m.
Yes you are correct.

Their kick return and post contact meters were far superior as well. They also ran for over 500m more.
They were the better team, yet we feel hard done by not to win. Thats an unusual feeling for a Wests Tigers supporter.

LOL no, not in that situation.
That would have been risking a Cat 1 and 11 day stand down, not to mention possible further injury.
That was 100% Luai's fault.

Luai is rightly having a rest this weekend. I think Seyfarth could argue and win, especialy given the statement from CNK: ā€œI went to brace for impact and he’s quite tall so I braced exactly where his shoulder was." That to me sounds like a decison made by the attacker and not the defender. sS there was no intent, he did not lead with the shoulder and CNK has admitted that he braced for impact against his shoulder I think there's a chance. If it was a week off I wouldn't take the gamble but for $500 I would give it a shot. It would set a precedent if it got up that could help us (and others) down the track.

Luai went in hard no doubt but he didn’t swing his arm or aim at his head, he went high as is a bit of his style to give him more momentum to hit and impact a ball runner. (Seen him tackle this way quite a bit).
Kosi however reeled back almost instantly, he wasn’t stunned, he was carrying on.

I have no doubt that Webster has looked at our ā€œexceptional defenceā€ figured out we were hitting around and above the ball and instructed his back 5 to run their carries into the line with a little dip into the defence.
