Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I reckon you are onto something here.
Not necessarily that Latu was any certainty to take Galvin’s halves spot as we would not be willing to pay someone 1 million dollars per season to change his position, but I sense I bit of jealousy and/or angst about the reputation that Latu has amongst the core playing group.
Yes they went to school together, but I get a strong feeling they don’t really like each other, competing for the same position often does that.
Even if there is any substance to this, Lachie knew he had the backing of Wests Tigers and Benji who had put him on a pedestal and willing to make him the centrepiece of the team, hence the disappointment and angst when someone made to feel so important at age 19 states he will develop as a player better elsewhere.
Yea for sure . But if you’re his manager right , and you know that it’s only a matter of time before this kid moves to lock or edge backrow , which it is , wouldn’t you want to slow that transition as much as possible . And go for the cash now as well . Because we all know those 2 positions , well since the brown contract , is now anywhere from 300-600k less money for an elite in that position.
And Benji has come out lately and talked about figuring out a way to get Latu into the 17 .
I’m not 💯 sure it’s lachie , but my guess is his dad is the one who felt the most threatened , he would have been there when Lachie was dropped from the eels , he would have been there when Lachie missed rep teams or was moved , and saw his son and his reaction , and I think it might be a case of history repeating itself in the nrl .
To me it explains everything.
I’ve coached kids . I’ve seen how the parents react , and politic and try and manipulate and manoeuvre their kid to be on the ball more .
Maybe I’m clutching at straws but man , it’s not like there’s not a history of it … and Moses is facilitating it in the most cutthroat ruthless way possible , by burning every bridge on the way out .
They don’t want him to play lock . A big offseason , just 1 in the gym , and it’s all over . He’s wearing the 13 .
My guess is the eels have promised him the 6 for the duration of the contract .
Kades right though . It’s irrelevant . Is there any elite edge backrowers in the eels lower grades ?

The more I reflect on this back to when he first supposedly asked for a release, I now think Galvin was always planning to leave after this contract. And nothing was changing his mind.

He has always seen the Wests Tigers & Benji as coach through a certain lens drilled into him by his close advisors going back to ‘23. His father probably the same.

His current contract was likely pitched to him by Moses as a stepping stone and opportunity to put himself in the shop window getting NRL minutes he would unlikely get anywhere else as an 18/19yo.

It all goes to plan for Moses including constant media stories on how good he is. Imagine the egos when Gus started putting out there ‘best teenage footballer’ ‘will become richest player ever by end of his career’.

Now I partly think conscience got the better of him/family when it became known that Richo was working on an upgrade/extend offer. It was like “shit we have tell them I am not staying”. Hence Isaac’s plan to create the dossier to continue the coaching narrative reasoning.

So I think ultimately the reason for Galvin leaving is nothing more than a story in the Galvin’s family minds about the club & Benji and how much better it would be elsewhere that has just grown & grown and reinforced by influential people to them. This became their truth!
I agree ! I think my theory was the catalyst , but I think your theory was joe it played out .

I don’t believe there are any elite edge back rowers coming through the Eels ranks at the moment, hence the reason they are trying to develop our ex player Kitione Kautoga as their strike back rower.
I reckon they will target Kai Pearce-Paul and likely also target another Isaac Moses client in Tony Sukkar as competition with Kautoga for their left edge spot.
I say this as it’s obvious Ryles has the theory of needing big bodied mobile edge back rowers and having the workers in the middle.
Anyway if Lachie wants to believe the bull crap coming from people outside of Wests Tigers than good luck to him, as Benji more or less said we cannot force players to stay and nobody is bigger than the club itself.

That seems like our plan as well to be honest . Weirdly though Samuela had turned into a strong defensive edge , and Seyfarth was always a rock in defence on the edge . Everyone just sees him get folded in yardage carries against set defences , (when the rest of the forwards are still getting back) and make assessments on that .
I actually don’t think we need KPP , outside of a depth player , or maybe Samuela still wants to move into the middle ?

The situation around the Galvin just now stinks of double deals worked between his agent and the intended club he signs for. This is a area that Vandy's needs to stop and suspend agents over it just gives the game a black eye and if proven there was contact between a club or high ranking official then fines need to be applied. at a minimum.

Yep. It really needs to be squashed.

Also, deals shouldn't be made during the season, or for seasons in advance. All contracts should end on 1st November in the last year of the contract and new ones cannot be negotiated before then. If that means 1 year deals all over the league, so what? At least you know who is playing for your team this season. I hate mid-year deals. I hate knowing a player is moving on in a year or more. I know I gave it to Talau against the Eagles when he'd signed with them, and had a typical up/down game. I'm sure he heard me yell that he might as well play for them tonight. I hated Klemmer going right at the start of this season ... anyway.

I honestly think this is being handled correctly, even to Luai and Turuva's social media content. Sounds like LG has been told he's the best since he was 5, and whenever something not agreeing with that is said, he doesn't take it well. His parents probably stroke his ego (I'm a parent and grandparents, and of course my kids and grandy are the best! But also, reality tells me that they're the best to me and others might see them differently) and thus hasn't helped, especially if dad's living his dream vicariously through his kid.

The team being critical of him suggests to me there's much more going on than what we know. But I am so proud of them for standing behind Benji. That also speaks volumes.

I really applaud Richardson for standing up to basically a bullying, who historically uses Wests Tigers to get his clients better contracts, and therefore top up his own income, at the expense of pur players, club, and even we supporters. I hope Bula dumps him and negotiates for himself. AD could g8ve him a hand there.

I have one little query, am I right that there is a younger Galvin also playing for us somewhere? If so, I think it should be a 2 for 1 deal (as in, you take 1, you get both).

Also, way back when he first got here, didn't Tim Sheens say he would develop as a 13? I k ow many of you hate TS, but he had an eye for developing young players into their best position, so I reckon if he thought LG was a lock, he's probably a lock 🤷‍♀️

You realise Richardson played a big role in this?
There’s no reason this couldn’t wait until November, when we hopefully would have had more data to use in our negotiations. Talking after we played finals would have changed perceptions a bit.
Probably wouldn’t have made a difference, but it may have.
No I think we couldn’t afford to sit on our hands for 6months and keep that 1mil on ice. I think he wants to make moves in the player market.

I’ve long been a big Seyfarth fan and nobody is happier than I am to see him finally being rewarded for the heart and soul he has demonstrated over the years.
He is a more than solid defender and has proven he runs a good line, particularly as an attacking threat close to our opponents line, but my concern is we just don’t have enough line breaks or attacking threat from our edge back row in general play.
Samuela Fainu has also been a little bit off in regards to his attacking threat so far this season, but he has the size and mobility for all to see what he is capable of, so it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing him making regular line breaks and become more of an attacking threat on a regular basis.
I’ve watched Kai Pearce-Paul closely, he is often disappointing and does not run the ball hard enough for a man of his size and speed. however I can’t help but think an edge of Samuela Fainu on the left and Kai Pearce-Paul on the right would be a potential nightmare for opposing teams to control, particularly when we are rolling through the middle.
Although it would mean somewhat of a demotion for Seyfarth who has been nothing but loyal to our club, he would still be very much a part of our top 17 and we have all seen him contribute very well when coming off the bench for us in the past.
The more I think about it, the more I’m hoping we do a 3 way immediate swap with Galvin to the Eels, Brown to the Knights and Pearce-Paul to us.

I have seen this theory … is it a potential problem that the Knights are strapped for salary cap space to pay Brown the rest of the season even if they get back something ( less ) for KPP moving on ?

move the thread on hypothetically he is going to parra who do we want

hypothetically he is at the dogs who do we want

ill take jacob preston from the dogs
and guymer from the eels

Any idea of timing?

I must be the only one who wants to hold Galvin to his contract. At 300k for the next two seasons, he's a bargain as a bench backrower/back up half. And unlike Moses, he won't tank.

I don’t think Galvin would tank if playing 5/8 for our NRL team, but I’m near certain he would spit the dummy and tank if we asked him to play any other position.
I’m satisfied we are well covered with Doueihi and Latu Fainu competing for our 5/8 position and believe we can strengthen our team by potentially adding some extra strike in a swap deal for Galvin.

Got to be realistic though, Preston will not be allowed to leave. That would be an amazing swap though. I think they would let Kikau go.

Hopgood for me from the eels, but that Guymer looks an interesting prospect

KPP is on 750k this season
Brown is on 900k-1mil this season.

Half their contracts have been paid for the season already.

The Knights have already released Will Pryce who was on decent money. So you would think that would make up the 150-200k difference.

I still think this whole thing is about Latu Fainu . If you read the tea leaves about the timeline , His first request for release was when we signed the Fainus .
And when you look at Fainu , and the way he plays he’s better than Galvin at being a half . He just is !
Chuck in their history ie. that Fainu was the one who kept him out at the eels im almost certain before he went to manly , Fainu was the one who kept him out of rep jerseys in age groups in the 6 jersey , and now Fainu has come to the nrl team , and whilst Galvin had the inside line , with all the noise in the playing group that Fainu is a better fit , I’m almost certain when they say he won’t develop here , I think they really mean Latu is going to take my place in the halves and I’ll be a lock .
It’s the only thing that actually makes the development angle make sense . And why his dad and manager are pushing this .
Because yes Benji has Lachies back , but eventually Latu will grab that 6 jersey , and everyone who actually knows the game knows that’s eventually going to happen . It’s why the club under sheens and now Benji has him forecast as a lock eventually . I guess Galvin doesn’t want that . And really … that’s fair enough . You don’t need to torpedo the club though to get it .
Yes. Exactly.
Galvan was also very clear in his statements as he shat on Benji on his way out . . . . that " My development as a half blah blah blah blah"
Carefully worded to include the toys out of the cot clause, that he's a half. Didn't say " my development as an NRL player", "My development as a footballer" , even just plain "my development".
Nope, it was made sure to insist that he's a half. Stop saying lock. A half.
