OFFICIAL Royce Hunt #298

I was definitely one of those people who said Hunt would play bigger minutes here then at the Sharks. I never thought he would start but thought he would be getting close 40 minutes a game or at least 30 minutes. I haven’t given ip on him but if TDS got put back into cup to get some minutes into him then Royce should be there this week as well. Not sure who we can bring in but Royce might need a couple of big minute games in cup

May played 75 minutes so you are correct he had a small spell and came back on

Played just under twice the minutes Twal did and he had concussion, however Twal ran for twice the distance at 3 runs for 20m to Hunts 1 run for 8m

Sione should start this week ( 8 runs for 117m on 27 minutes played , if Hunt is to do anything he should come off the bench

15 mins for Hunt when we were already a forward down. Wow. If he's not injured that's poor.

Benji might just wait for Pole to return before doing anything. We just havnt got anyone we can use atm.

Hunt needs to go to a health retreat or start a weight jab. Running around KOE cup will not be enough to him in reasonable shape.

Doesn't matter how good the recruitment is
- If the results don't reflect it.

Even if the recruitment is stellar, There are still plenty of mistakes made amongst it.
There's half a dozen names in the top 30 that shouldn't be there -
and we're paying players to play at other clubs that would have positively effected results this year.
How about context of the biggest mid season shit show with Galvin and co?

Or do we just ignore the mitigating circumstances

We lost by 2 points to warriors and knights games we could easily have won ..

We are improving... That's the point. You don't go from 17th to first overnigh.. you work your way up the ladder

Look I do think our club should defy history and allow Benji (under the guidance of Richo) to coach at least until the end of next season.

If things continue to go south this season, they need to adjust the support structure around him whether it's assistant coaches or strength & conditioning or both.

They'll be able to recruit in more players they want and suit the culture/style for next year as well.

I think our real problems at the moment lie in ...

1 Money to invest in our player & coach development from U16s to NSW Cup that sits outside the soft cap. Obviously no more is coming from HBG, so Richo needs to secure external $$$ for this whether corporate or philanthrophy.

2 Effectiveness of the support system for Benji as mentioned above. For example, we continue to lose the ruck and wrestle every week (blind freddy can see this) so surely something has to be done with our wrestling coach and S&C staff. Either personnel change or what they coach/train needs to change.
Or just figure out what the bulldogs are taking/doing where you are able to dominate players you are giving away 30kg and 7inches of height to. Those guys just run and hit, run and hit...barely slow down. Very little skill, just strength and stamina.

When a guy who has governed over 2 decades of failure can keep forcing his way onto the board, through coups, and has no accountability, there's a reason why no one takes our mgmt seriously (nor some of the players).

The poker machines are still humming...that's all they really care about. The tigers stuff is just a free feed and piss up.

With AD, improved defence...
Is it time to try him at lock?

He's a big guy.
This could be a master-stroke.
I actually think that's the problem with our backline.

Toa and AD needed to get in their heads that they will be left and right center all year every game!
Pick n stick.

Benji's biggest mistake is moving AD out of center. You keep Turuva, Skelton AD and Toa on that back line and then when one gets injured the next one up fits in with people who know what they are doing.
Don't change the backline.

Hunt is a bench prop good for maybe 10 mins or so either side of half time. He is good if used to give your run-on props a break and as short power impact. When used this way he holds up the middle so there is less of a drop of quantity output in the forwards, (like in years past), just long enough for your main men to ready themselves for their final stint. It’s not Hunts fault we don’t have the roster balanced. We needed another run-on prop for this season so Hunt can do the job he is good at.
It does look like Hunt has stopped training and starting eating since the season started? I reckon he’s been putting on weight as the season progresses. I am not a fan of that, Hunt needs to be as fit as possible just to get the 10 mins.
I’ve said it before and had others babbling on at me how we have heaps of props and centre or lock was more important, or how Klem was shite.
Klem’s contract clause was an issue but he needed to be replaced by another prop for the roster balance and we are paying for that now.
What happens if MayPole are both injured we’d have Hunt and Bird at prop.
