OFFICIAL Royce Hunt #298

100% think that we have Pole, Hunt, Seyfarth, Twal and Bird all playing roles that are not ideally where they should be playing.
It was always clear that we were short a genuine lock, effective edge and a starting prop from the start of this season. We have shuffled these guys around to fill the gaps but now with a few injuries our lack of quality in these spots can not be masked over.
All these guys aren’t bad squad members on their own it’s just that we need to have a stronger squad to utilise them properly.

Pole should be a bench impact prop
Twal should be coming off the bench in the prop rotation
Hunt should be off the bench impact prop for 2 short spells
Seyfarth is a utility forward off the bench
Bird is a depth player at best.

In our current spot on our evolving path we are plugging gaps in a roster that needs to keep developing. We must keep building our squad - easier said than done. I have no doubt that Richo and Benji know exactly what needs to happen
and are doing their best with what they have at the moment.
Whinging about losing certain players such as Klem, Uto, Bateman or Paps is a waste of time. They all needed to be moved on if we are to get where we need to go. None of them were putting in for us or were of value to us.
Galvins episode, Latu’s lack of resilience, other injuries, these have been further hurdles.
As fans it’s hard to watch and be patient but we have to give them the next 18 months of their tenure to see this come together.

The problem with Hunt is his effectiveness is with the ball. We often stay very poorly and are defending most of the time like last week. By the time we get the ball he’s gassed and useless.

He can only be used when he have some type of momentum which makes it hard to use him effectively.

It would help even more if he went on a bird food diet for a month and dropped 10kg to the weight he should be playing at, man he's stacked it on.

Hello crew,

My issue with Royce Hunt being dropped is this.

Royce is obviously an impact player off the bench.

He had completed this task magnificently until Fonua got hurt.

Benji chose to start him and thus negate his impact.

Now he is dropped and we have a diminutive bench.

I don't get it.
Probably a similar reason as Tallyn. It's to give Royce an opportunity to play bigger minutes to build his fitness back up a bit with a few matches of 20+ min stints x 2.

Which makes him a bench prop at best, and KOE preferably.

Starter/non starter....if he can only manage 1 run in 15 minutes, that's not good enough.

People wanted James Tamou strung up for his efforts.

Hunt was significantly worse, on more money, and younger.

He was FRESH at 1 minute of play. If he is only effective against players that have slogged it out for 30 minutes before coming in fresh....what the Hell did we sign?

I'm sure Hunt could have spotted a small half to run at once at least.

The fact Benji didn't put him back in the game, despite losing Twal at 8 minutes & not returning & having 2 players in the bin, tiring out the guys on the field....the fact Royce didn't get a second run....suggests Benji might feel the same way.

Even Bird got back on after Luai sprayed him.

If Hunt is ONLY effective against tapped out defenders after 30 minutes, get out of that contract now.

Where's all the supercoaches that were convinced Hunt was an upgrade on Stefano and telling us he was going to come here and up his fitness and minutes and all the rest of it? (Surely they have the answer)?

It really is Fantasy Footy.... Isn't it.

Chadster ..weren’t you cheerleading for us to sign Royce a year ago..?

Three year deal isn’t looking good now …. Im actually going to play the devils advocate that you normally do, and think back to his form earlier in the season and say that they should try to get him back to that form, and then exclusively play him that way …trying to make him play another way because we have atrocious depth at the position looks like it isn’t going to cut it

No.

Of all the signings, he's the one I wasn't excited about. I suggested we should have gotten Toby Rudolph instead.

I've never liked Royce Hunt tbh. I think people get too caught up in the flashy big runs off the back fence. They aren't even THAT effective.

Give me Jack Hetherington every time.

Ok ..looks like I was mistaken about that 👍

I'm going to give big Royce a chance. The next month will be telling. If he goes back to Cup with the right attitude, rips in, increases his workload and dominates that grade, it might set him up for the back-end of the NRL season. Hoping!

Sure. He is contracted to the club- we need him to take that chance.

Historically, it's hit & miss if he takes it.

Think the right thing to do was to drop Royce to reserve grade he won't help us win any games on his last effort, he never came back on for a reason.
Like a lot of us when he turned up early to the off season and at the start of the season looked to have trimmed down some with Benji in his ear wanting more minutes out of him I thought he could be a useful addition to the squad.

Good he has been dropped and now hope he doesn't get back till he works some condition off.
Time to look in the mirror Roycey and see what swallowing that whole sheep washed down with stout has done to you FFS.

Edit he should give Junior Paulo a ring and get his nutritionist's number worked wonders for him.

I can see everyone saying our bench was too small if we lose this one.

Perhaps with Skelton back, we gain yardage from him and don't need to rely on the props as much.

agreed
we trained him for bench spot and asked him to start. He's a different player off the bench compared to starting.
