Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

the guy that just offered an Ageing Reynolds Almost 1mill more than the next guy,
To come play over the top of every other half currently at the club.

He's accountable as anyone else, Seen previous admins blown to bits for lesser decisions.
Agreed that he is accountable but there was an ineptitude in the previous admin that we don’t have now. Sure Richo didn’t get his mark but we weren’t left with egg on our face like the failed Lattrell or JAC signings of the past admin. There’s a big difference in a player declining an offer because he doesn’t want to move interstate away from his family, and a player who rejects our offer to go to another Sydney club.

The Point seems to be missed here...

We bought Luai to be the man, Luai came here to be the man...
Now we just offered huge money to a bloke to come have Luai play under him.
It's NOT a back up plan, It's a complete change in direction.
What does that tell Luai about the clubs direction and belief in him?
(All previously well sold, I'm sure)

If I was top class, at the top of my game at my job
and my boss was looking to buy an old bloke on his last legs to come in over me,
I'd certainly be reassessing my options - Especially if I had as many as Luai does.
(And all the contract options to go along with those options)

It’s a good point.
Looks like Benji is agreeing with the comments Ivan Cleary made a few years back

I don’t know how the Reynolds approach was handled internally but I just can’t see Richo and Benji disrespecting Luai like that. I think they have enough sense to have spoken to Luai and only moved forward once they were comfortable he was on board with the plan. 🤷‍♂️

Good players want to play with good players they know they can't do it alone - the very reason why we can't retain many of the players we want to keep - aka your man Brooks.
We know Luai is a confident bloke but he also knows what it takes to win a premiership and that means surrounding yourself with the right players instead of throwing good players to the wolves and expecting them to have all the answers - or backing teenagers not yet ready.
For every fan who doesn't rate Reynolds there is one that does and for two years on more than reasonable money it's hardly outrage stuff.

Are you insinuating I don't rate him?
Where did I say that...

I rate him,
But also would bet the current halves at the club (And their Management)
raised eyebrows at such an approach.

It just seemed like a very odd decision when we have so much invested already in our halves, monetarily with Luai and with young guys like Fainu and Mason. The halves for us aren’t exactly a priority when we are short on middles and a strike centre. The fact they won’t pursue DCE or any other established halfback makes it even more odd. Especially given how vocal Richo and Benji have been about being very selective with who they want to bring the club, If you are being selective, you don’t make reactionary decisions like that. It’s almost like they just wanted a win in the player market after being rejected by a teenager.

I'm not insinuating anything about you rating or not rating Luai.
What is wrong with approaching the best players that are available to strengthen your squad - especially a three peat wooden spoon squad who just lost one of the most hyped juniors in history to a club that continues to raid other clubs to strengthen its position and is doing a pretty good job of it

Luai has come from an environment where he was surrounded by quality. The best teams have the best players that's what wins you premierships and if you could get Reynolds /Luai combo at 750k a season for two years - to replace Galvin - you mighten see it as good business but I'd say there would be plenty who do.

I think he made it clear why it was wrong. It goes against everything we had planned for Luai. It’s an acknowledgment that him leading the team has been a failure and we need to go in a different direction.

You think he can't lead a team with strengthened squad? It's about building a better football team around him. It's got nothing to do about questioning his ability to lead.

Someone was saying that players like Bateman, kelmmer and Sullivan can contribute toward the number required pre 30june.. can't remember if it was here or on a podcast.
It's now been on here a number of times, not sure where else you may have seen but it appears to be the correct interpretation.

Personally I was hoping to get a couple of signings before June 30 that would hopefully improve our squad right now and develop some combinations in real game time situations prior to next season.
