Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Agree.
Plus he is still performing at a NRL starter level.
He will give 30-40mins of quality.

With May, Pole, Fainu and Twal he could be used as an impact style prop and old head off the bench but also let May play less minutes to be more effective.
And I don’t think you’d need to break the bank.

You forgot to mention Sione Fainu who for me has been outstanding. Twal to the bench.

For sure. And I would be massively leveraging 30 June if they want him that bad. I’d be asking for Sexton plus someone else or a very large sum of money.

No bullying to navigate this time.

Eat shit Gus
I'd be wanting a player better than Sexton. If he is not good enough for the Dogs ............... Sexton reminds me of Chad Townshend.

Apparently there are 4 teams chasing Da Silva, which is good for WTs. If he goes on loan to the Knights for the remainder of the year, KPP can come our way. If the Knights want him for next year, they have two or three really good young second row forwards who have been playing NRL while their props are either suspended or injured. One I believe is former Panthers' junior.
Jack Hetherington played for the Panthers didn't he? 😛

Yeah the narrative is that Douhie wants to be a half and is worth 600k from his point of view. He’s having a crack atm but I reckon he’s got himself in the shop window.
That bloke has no sense of his own ability.
The sooner we get rid of him the better. At minimum wage as a stop gap centre who can supposedly kick goals, he is tolerable. But he cost us last week for sure, this week wasn’t much better and I’m not including all the missed goals yet. If he was NRL standard he would have won us both those games, or at least one of em.
So after two shite games he wants more money plus one of either JL or Latu’s spot. Sounds like his “Me First” attitude hasn’t changed since he demanded to play reggies 5/8.

But we’re not talking about Api now. We’re talking about him in 2 years. Think of it like this. Sure, TDS is an unknown. He may not develop into much of a first grader. But say we take that punt and lose, what’s the club lost? An extra year of Api. As opposed to TDS leaving and being a star all to get that extra year. You tell me which ceiling is higher.
What if you sign Da Silva and Haywood leaves because of that ?

It’s interesting re Sexton and the clubs true view for Latu.

Get not wanting to help the Bulldogs out approach but could he actually make a difference to our squad.

We went after Reynolds for 2yrs, no way Reynolds would play 2nd fiddle or as a bench role - he would’ve been our 7 walk up every week.

The dominos with that decision would’ve seen Luai at 6 on the left and Latu either 13 or 14 (no way he plays reggies).

It’s clear Richo and Benji aren’t convinced that Latu can be the game manager / 7 to make a finals push soon otherwise why go hard after Reynolds.

The theory around Latu as a lock has merit in some regards. He is going to get bigger and is aggressive defensively holding his own against the bigger blokes. His burst of speed & ball playing in the middle could really open things up causing havoc in the middle. Their isn’t really anyone in the game with his attributes playing in the middle currently so it could be a game changer if it worked.

Re Sexton put the Gus/Galvin/Bulldogs aside he is actually playing very good footy, he does the basics very well, is in a great system, won’t cost the earth, has had a breakout 12mths. He also showed since Galvin joined no BS approach & team first even if meant he had to play Hooker for 30mins when Galvin took over his role (despite that not being communicated before the game).

I’m a huge fan of Latu, wanted us to sign him before the talk about him moving across happened and have talked him up probably more than anyone else on the forum but I do think their is some merit to think through Sexton opportunity especially if Bud shifts off our books.

1-13: Bula, Turuva, Toa, Tiny, Skelton, Luai, Latu, Pole, Api, Terrell, Samuela, KPP, Twal.

14-19: Mason, Sione, Seyfarth, Hunt. Bird, Sukkar

Backs depth: Luke Luailli, Makasini

Forwards depth: Saukuru, Kit Luailli

That's who has a contract for next year so far except for Tiny but you assume an upgrade if Doueihi has signed with Moses.

Sullivan & Da Silva still officially on the books.

We need a good lock. That would be the main priority I see in the 1-13.

Backs, Forwards & Utilities we are okay.

I think we have 4 or 5 development spots still available for next year. I would suggest Hope, Murray get 2 of the vacancies. That's hooker & middle cover. Maybe we sign a fringe #9 as well if Da Silva does go.

From NSW Cup - Tui'itupou, Mapapalangi & Rahme could get a development/top 30 deal. Staines would be the only other.

Unfortunately not a lot of the market unless someone pushes for a release...

I think whoever we sign externally next will be a #13. Kobe Hetherington could be the next signing given everything happening at the Broncos.
That is very grim reading

any chance we can get Nelson Asofa-Solomona who I read was hooked by bellamy yesterday and has previously been hooked. he is exactly what we need to complete our pack (along with KPP and the promotion of Sukkar).
Not having a go at you specifically, as Ive seen this said a few times now...
Why do we think that a player Craig Bellamy has gone off will do well here?
When the best man manager - probably ever - who has spent pretty much every day of the past 11 years with a certain player decides he isnt performing anymore, that is a red flag to all smart operators that you shouldnt go near this player with a barge pole.

I was keen on big Nelson over the summer but this season is looking like he is on the downhill slide, I'm getting Royce Hunt parallels going forward, starting to look overweight and getting ready to be put out to pasture.

True, though it's about comparing squads Tucker, even if Bellamy is off him, the real question is, is he still better than whoever he will be replacing if we bring him in, in our squad. Teams like Melbourne, Penrith and up till recently Roosters, they're trash from their squad would be treasure in ours only cause we're starting from such a low bar.
