Tallyn Da Silva #270

I would give Api 50 minutes only.
He is on the downhill part of his career and we need a replacement ready within 2 years Id suspect.
What I would like to known is if the club has had a serious talk with Api about the minutes he is playing and about some sort of a succession plan somewhere down the track.

I can't believe that Api would be so selfish as not to admit that he needs a break and that definitely in the next year or 2 that he should be starting to hand over the starting role to a young up and coming #9. (whoever that may be.)

I agree that Api is better utilised for 60 minutes and should have TDS on at the 25-30 minute mark and for the start of the second half thus allowing Api to comeback for the end of the games to close out.

I was watching him in the defensive line on Friday and he was jumping out of the line to effect his tackles and then racing back into the defensive line which is all effort and what we all love about his passion to the club, however it is not sustainable for all games and his longevity.

The use of the bench is not suited to him playing 80 minutes

I would hope TDS sees what is out there and decides to stay loyal to the Tigers as I had the pleasure of touring the COE with him as a host and he is a fine young man.
Yeah, I am getting to the broken record stage on this, though I have never been this frustrated with a continuing coaching failure, and nothing moreso than Tallyn watching on as his impotent team failed to score set upon set late in the match on Friday.

@Tucker has shown us probably the most damning statistics at WT since Api has been here.

Dude. You okay? We are a strong group here. Talk to us.

Yes but the pro Api camp needs to understand that for 2027, he should only be offered back up hooker money.

And if he doesn't like it, he'll have to look elsewhere, which he probably will, thats his choice.

TDS should be our number one hooker in 2027, like you said.

For the sake of the team and club, I'm having trouble understanding why people can't see this.
For me - it’s not as simple as Api or TDS.

If TDS had the craft and skillset of Api, I would be very comfortable moving Api on as he is so pivotal to our attack. I haven’t seen this as part of Tallyn’s game (yet) - yes he brings speed and a good passing game but those attributes are easier to find than what Api brings.

I agree there need to be a transition, I am not so sure that transition has to be Tallyn.

I can believe that Api is better playing 60-70 mins then 80 minutes. However if I need a backup for 10-20 minutes then I don't want a hooker only on the bench I am looking for someone who can play either lock/second row or backs and that can manage 20 mins in the hooker role be it at the start or middle of the match.

In that case it isn't TDS - if I am looking internally its getting 20 mins out of Mason who can then also cover the halves, fullback and outside backs at a stretch or Charlie Murray who type who could play 20 mins at hooker or Haywood coming through who could cover hooker or halves

Looking outside the club the perfect off contract replacement would be Silvia Havili although at 32 he is aging so a slightly younger version of him
He is not effective, or let me rephrase, he is almost always nowhere near as effective when playing more than 60 minutes, and even less so when that is in a single stint..

Simply a fact, and unless a really top notch utility is available, a hooker should always be used for 20 minutes or more, which is necessary for our WT to win a reasonable amount of matches.

No other coach ever saw Api as an 80minute per game player until Benji had a brainstorm.
