Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Our biggest problem I believe is the support and resources Benji has in his stable. Employing his mates as assistants is simply not good enough. We need experienced assistant coaches.

Benji can clearly get the boys motivated, is charasmatic and has some pull in the player market.

This is the one area of the Galvin saga that I could see from Galvin's point. The coaching staff is sub par, and as a young up and coming player, you want to be coached by the best with good resources.
The contracts our assistant coaches are on may dictate what happens at the end of the season i.e. how much the club is will to pay out.

John Morris - contracted through to end of 2027.
Brett Hodgson - end of 2026.
Chris Heighington - ??? but is coming up to 2 years.
Aaron Payne - end of this season.

There's no coach out there who will change the trajectory of what's happening with the Tigers now.
Just some stats on Willie Peters.

Hull KR finished 8th in 2022 the season before he took over with a W:L record of 12:15.

With Willie at the helm ...

2023 - 4th - 16:11
2024 - 2nd - 21:6
2025 - 1st (currently) - 14:1

Also won the Challenge Cup & has an overall win strike of 74% the past 3 seasons.

We can’t let Heighno go, he adds plenty of value sorting out the drink bottles on game days.

i worry this willie peters talk is pushed by fox & co simply because braith anasta manages him. there’s always another agenda. also, the super league is pretty dire at the moment so it’s hard to know if that would translate to the nrl.

Benji can clearly get the boys motivated
Can he though? The boys didn’t look very motivated last Friday night. I think it’s the opposite. For all the talk of how much they love him and would walk from the club if he was sacked, they play like strangers most weeks.

if benji gets sacked there’s a high chance Luai walks

He will do.

Get him over here.

Are we afraid Luai et al will walk?

This is so true.

If we employed someone with more respect and experience to help Benji, it would improve our current squad and make us more of a place you would want to come to.

No brainer for me.

Why’s everyone dancing around it. The problem is Benji.
Not trying to butt heads- but why is it Benji that is the problem?

The problem pre-dates Benji.

If I had to put the cross hairs anywhere...it's the '5 year plan'.

And not in the way people think.

It's not STICKING to a 5 year plan. The club makes statements about adapting change....puts in place structures & 5 year plans....then changes parts of it every couple of years.

This isn't the same 5 year plan Tim Sheens had.

Or the 5 year plan Madge had.

Or the 5 year plan Cleary had.

I can see some value in upgrading the support staff around Benji. I believe Hodgo is better than Farah was as an assistant already. Bringing in an experienced guy to sit beside Benji wouldn't hurt- but it has to be the right experienced guy. Anthony Griffin has always been talked about as a great development coach- from his time way back to the Broncos. Not surprisingly- he was part of the Panthers rebuild for a time too.

Changing Benji now starts a brand new 5 year plan. Restarts all the current schemes, systems, roster plans etc.

We are getting better players into the club. The key now is to STICK with the plan. See it through. Actually commit to something.

We are a rubbish club with a bunch of rubbish players. Losing guys like TDS & Galvin might sound terrible at the moment. But who are they, really? There are MAYBE 3-4 guys in the club that I would say must be kept. The rest are really quite replaceable.

Don't compare the CURRENT Tigers to the CURRENT Bulldogs. Gould started that rebuild in 2021. Richo started in 2024. I remember the Tigers taking the wooden spoon away from the Bulldogs not that long ago.

We will lose far more players before we are done. And I'm sure it will be a terrible day for the club we never recover from. Until we do.

TDS would make ZERO difference this weekend against the Roosters when we are already without Bula, Luai & Api. We will struggle, not because Tallyn is gone, but because there is no Bula, Luai & Api.

Context is needed. We are on as many wins as last season already. We have lost more games by 4 points than by 40 points compared to last season.

Our current bludging prop is dropped to KOE. Last year, our biggest bludging prop joined the Storm. We are in a stronger position there too.

We need back rowers & centres. The club has added KPP for next season already.

Benji might be in charge of a team not winning games. But, compared to last season, there is overall improvement. The club needs to get the squad balance right.

then after he left we heard for years he’s a good coach just didn’t have the cattle. now has the most talented roster in the competition and isn’t exactly setting the world on fire.
I'd agree that Broncos aren't exactly setting the world on fire but:
1. Sitting in 5th place despite being without their 1 and 6 for large chunks of the season.
2. Restructuring their roster to get some better value for money out of their backline.
3. Turning a career fringe first grader into an Origin centre.
4. Extending promising young players without needing to put them into first grade before they're ready.
Madge is doing fine. Not great, but fine.

Kristian Wolf is doing a good job with the Phins so I wouldn't knock the super league background.

Peters obviously knows what he's doing. Certainly within the realm of possibility he's a marked upgrade on Benji. Especially if Benji is more concerned with what the team looks like than what it plays like.

I’m not saying it’s right or wrong I’m just saying you can likely count him gone

All I’ll say is … this is what happens when you put clauses like this in contracts… it was probably envisaged by Luai that he would be able to use it as a way to get more money out of them as his contract went along … but now he can hold the club to ransom over who the coach is… it’s just as ridiculous as Stef deliberately playing poorly so he doesn’t get picked for Origin so he can leave the club ,.lol
