Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

if benji gets sacked there’s a high chance Luai walks
Nah. He might use that as an excuse if he's decided he wants out. I don't think there's too many players who want to play in a losing side, regardless of how much they claim to love the coach, or how much of a fan they were of his as a player.

Didnt Richter go off one game because he had a headache?

What was thenstory with his name too ..that one always confused me

yes, champion @innsaneink, it was a game at Leichhardt Oval and in the moment, it was one of the funniest footy memories.
Makasini Richter aka Jackson Kaufusi aka Lipina Kaufusi - goddam, no wonder you're confused!

I didn’t say that. I said they would have got word through management of their players intentions. They would be available November 1. Then it would be on the current club to decide if a final year at the club is worth it for them.
Anyway all speculation. A lot of clubs feel better about releasing players during the off season.

The initial rumour didn’t say subject to the other club releasing them early …it said they were already lined up for 2026 …

Ive got mail from a pretty reliable source that there are 1-2 VERY GOOD signings lined up for 2026... Obviously they can't be discussed publicly, but if true, I am somewhat glad we can "Do a Gus"... Time will tell!

Seyfarth $250k
Pole $450
Sione - no idea tbh
To’a $300k will probably be upgraded tho
I think Seyfarth is a bit higher, probably 300k
Pole 500k
Sione 300k
To’a 350k and it appears he wants more and hence the reason I keep saying we can get better centres than him if he wants more money.
Even at 300k I maintain Seyfarth is good value as a regular top 17 player, or even a fringe top 17 player.
Sione on this seasons form is very good value at 300k
Pole was wanted by Melbourne Storm, I’m pretty sure we would have had to pay him 500k minimum to keep him and when he’s at or near his best that’s decent value also.

Seyfarth was recently upgraded, I heard around 500k a year, which I said on here at the time. He was starting second rower when he signed that deal earlier in the year. While that is the starting rate for a starter, I thought it was bizarre considering he had no interest from other NRL clubs at the time.

Pole also re-signed at the end of last season and I believe it was around 550k and increasing slightly each season.

With the new cap and all the new teams, you essentially won't find a starting player across the league on less than 450-500k a year. Even most kids coming into their first year of their first contract are starting on 250k as clubs are fearful of losing them to rivals and expansions teams.

i thought it was less than that for seyfarth, that’s how he got the long term deal bc it was basically peanuts
wouldn’t make sense bc KPP was only slightly higher than that

Who knows with us considering we contracted Jayden Sullivan supposedly at 550k per season, but I’d be very surprised if we are paying Seyfarth anymore than 350k maximum.
If we are paying Seyfarth 350k there’s probably a fair chance we are paying Sione something similar.
We probably had to and did go up to 550k for Pole.
When you look at these types of figures, you can see how it’s a tight fit to add new players and stay under the salary cap, particularly when you factor in 550k for Sullivan.
My calculations tell me we still have available cap money for one more high profile player up around 800k and potentially another at around 500l, but after that it would be mostly lower cost signings to fill our top 30.
While on lower cost potential depth signings, the form and stats of young halfback Liam Sutton currently playing Qld Cup has been off the charts.
I’ve only seen highlights of him play on the Qld Cup Facebook Page, but the highlights shown along with his stats have been very impressive. Based on that he looks a far superior emerging halfback than Jonah Glover, maybe one to look at.

Nope, was around the 500k mark. Its just the going rate these days. Benji made him a starter and his management used that to their advantage. Remember, thats for 2026 and beyond.

The other thing people forget about the cap is that there is a salary cap 'floor'. That means clubs HAVE to spend at least 95% of the almost 12mil cap. The new TV deal will also push the cap up very very quickly.

Some clubs will give experienced and longer serving players a little more, as they would prefer to give them the money than younger guys or players who are in and out of first grade. Unfortunately it seems that Benji has lost his way a little and is making personal decisions on emotion more so than strategic long term vision.

500k for Seyfarth isn't a killer, as in two years that will probably even be the starting point for bench players given the cap and market demand for players. Quite a few teams have guys in the 500k+ range as bench players. 500k in 2027 will be what 300k was in 2023/2024.

Better than T'oa for the money? Who? Seriously who?

11.4 million is the cap. that's 380k average. The truth is 8 or so players are going to be well under that. $350k is good value and he has been very good this year with Turuva.

who’s on the big wicket here then? we’re not really paying anyone overs so i guess that’s good. JL is obviously the marquee signing and api? he’s the second highest I’d assume?

Isn’t Bula out 2nd highest on 700k and rising to 900k by 2027 ?
I’m assuming that probably means we would be paying him 800k for 2026 ?
This us not having another crack at Bula, I’ve recognised he’s been one of our better players, particularly in the first half of the season, but if the above figures are correct he will shortly be in the elite player status based on his contract value.
Zero Tackle who are generally a fairly reliable source on pkayer contract values have AJ Brimson on 800k.
When I watch AJ Brimson play and the constant attacking threat he offers, I ask how is he earning the same or less than Bula ?

Zero tackle isn’t reliable

he’s $700k but there’s a weird contract mutual option to do with something being worth $900k but it doesn’t mean we have to pay him that much

I’m a fan of Seyfarth, but if we are paying him anywhere near 500k it’s way too much and we would need to offload him.
At 300k he’s good value, reasonable value at 350k, I cannot believe ever would have offered or be paying him any higher than that.
