Jahream Bula #269

Don't know. Hopefully he is or is going to be. Development contract would be ideal for next season IMO.
He played in the NRL trials so I would have thought at the least he was on a train and trial but I’ll admit I’m a bit iffy on the who is eligible to play in those games.

you think so , ?klemmer bateman the x parra at Penrith , sullivan we stump up for 3 out of 4 there by my calculations next year

That's a different discussion. Just because we contribute to a few contracts doesn't mean our salary cap is busted. Is it perfect? No, but it's pretty healthy in terms of space none the less. John Bateman's contract didn't block Adam Reynolds coming to our club.

Besides, we don't contribute to Klemmer after this season, and we released Ice to Penrith without any salary contributions as far as I recall. If AD moves on after this season there are worse depth options than Bud Sullivan as well.

You are missing the point.
Some people are stressing thinking the sky will fall down if we do not take up the 900k contract for Bula.
The point I am making is the games elite fullbacks are only on similar or fractionally more money, therefore we could potentially recruit someone in that class for 2027/2028 if we decide not to take up Bula’s 900k per season contract. Add to that his dodgy manager who I am near certain will be pushing for us to pay more than 900k for him to remain with us.
Your post makes the assumption that all things are equal, that is, if Dylan Edwards is being paid $750k at Penrith then we can buy him for around that money. There’s a discount for marquee talent at top tier clubs. It’s why the Salary cap is flawed and makes it so difficult for lower teams to climb back up the ladder. Each club is spending af least the minimum cap spend yet when you compare squads they’re not even close.

There is always the tendency to overrate our players. Dylan Edwards is on 850k. No way Bula is worth 800k.

Foxsports did not rank Bula in the top 10 in the NRL for 2025. Fullback 11-15 in the NRL average $533,720. Even if you can find a way to get him into the Top 10, fullbacks 7-10 average $726,665, he would be 9th-10th at best so $700k max.

10. Clint Gutherson

9. Scott Drinkwater

8. Latrell Mitchell Seriousy until he starts playing football and stops looking for penalties for the easy way out should not be considered top 10 for anything except top 10 sook!

7. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow

6. Ryan Papenhuyzen

5. Reece Walsh

4. Tom Trbojevic

3. Kalyn Ponga

2. James Tedesco

1. Dylan

Like it or hate it. Jareem Bula is our ONLY strike backline player. The only 1 who can create something out of nothing due to his athletic frame and speed. To us he is worth more than what his estimated average is and what other teams would pay.
Just some homework how often do you see a half break occur around Bula or a half chance. I’m constantly watching our games going our only chance here is to get the ball to Bula. I wonder how many coaches think the same. With an actual attacking centre on the left (when it comes) and Latu getting more reps in the halves Bula will become less of a factor for the opposition and more important for us.
How often did the Hammer look out at see for the Dolphins in his previous two years?

900k would probably have Bula as the highest paid fullback in the game, IIRC Paps took unders at the Storm

Is he the best FB in the game?

An extra 200k would probably bring Paps home.

Unless Bula is putting an extra 2-3 years on that contract, I’m not taking that extension

Bula can show his love by signing early .Saving the club a 100 ,so the club can spend it more appropriately were its needed
No one in their right mind turns down an extra 100k a year whilst living in Sydney whilst in their 20s and trying to save, "for the love of the club"...

I love the tigers. But the players are commodities... Look at club legend Benji Marshall who was pushed out and forced to play elsewhere..

Love or hate Moses, he helps the players extract every last cent to prepare for life after footy....

If anything, it was dumb of the tigers having a contract structured this way... Can't blame Bula here .

What ? Ponga and Walsh are on 1.4 and 1.2 already . Teddy is on 1.2 , and who knows with TPAs . The hammer is on 1m. The young fullback Kini at the titans is on 1million . Papenhuyzen 1mil not including TPAs. Turbo 1.2m although he’s no longer a fullback . Drinkwater re upped his contract when he was in talks for origin so I’d love to know how much he’s really on . In fact I think it will be easier to find a club not paying thier fullback 900k minimum.
Teams like Canberra and us , the only reason we arnt is we are paying them their first real contract in Kaeo Weekes and Bula , and no one saw this Weekes coming . Even Ricky can’t say that . He was third choice at manly . . So who’s left ? Tracey, Gutho(on 750k so not far off and he’s 32) , CNK,( meh fullback . Not my cup of tea) , Edward’s (he’s on 900k) Iongi (rookie ) … lattrell well he’s Clearly on a mil , Kennedy and that’s about it … so by my count I have 5 players not on a mil as thier teams fullback / paid fullback money but had a positional change like Mitchell and Turbo .
In fact some teams like titans are paying thier 14 . 800k because they’re ll the one who was supposed to be the fullback in players like Brunson , or we did once upon a time with Mbye .
My point is people need to recalibrate to a world where the salary is 12m . Paying your spine 4mil will be the norm . Some teams will do it better than most . The new 4 mil will actually 5 or 6 mil . Some teams will stack thier spine with the Aus. spine , and pay journeymen to fill out thier front row . Basically the storm modus operende . They’d be paying thier spine close to 6m I reckon including TPAs.

You're grossly underestimating how much clubs have in their cap to spend

$900k is only slightly above average for a fullback. All the top fullbacks are on over $1million.

Kaeo Weekes has just extended with the Raiders until 2029, and will be on 850k for the last two years. Gives a decent gauge as to what Bula is worth since I think they are quite similar players
Thanks mate . I’d say if he’d have waited a few months his value would be through the roof right now . He’s clearly the in form fullback in the comp . 900k for a fullback who you think could have origin potential , is at the very least market value . We are all haven’t shifted our minds to the new reality . IMO if you’re paying your fullback anywhere under 800k , he’s either a stop gap to something else , or you signed him very early and he’s in his initial rookie contract .
By 2030 I think that number will be 1 mil , with the absolute best ones on close to 1.7m

Are they on 1mill from the club alone or is this factoring in third party payments?

Galvin for example, Richo promoted this as whatever the number was (1.3 or whatever) but this was inclusive of the 3rd parties. Then the bulldogs talk about paying him 750k or whatever, but I have it on good account he's on well over $1mill a year including the 3rd parties.
