Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Luai has never played behind a pack beaten so badly in his career.

The halves can’t do anything with that. It’s made even harder by Benji moving everyone around mid game.
WTM fully agree with what you are saying, but Luai does not have the ability in his game to be a dominating half regardless, he is a primarily a runner who reacts spontaneously to what he sees, which is fine if we are going forwards. But when wee are being dominated like today he has no depth to his kicking game, his overall game management is not what anyone would expect from a player been paid the dollars he is on.

You’re probably right at this point in time. He has to adjust his style to make it work for WT.

I remember Scott Prince having the same problem in his first year here and a lot of people said he wasn’t a 7.

That said, the coaching staff need to sort out our attacking structures to help him. After watching them train on Thursday I can tell you we did not train for any of the positional changes.

Unfortunately I’m not seeing him to be as good a player as Scott Prince …I think what we get with Luai is defence, attitude and holding others in the team accountable… he needs to get back to that now., also has gotta quit the dumb penalties

Maybe he won’t but he’s not helped with our clunky attack. Ever since the Sheens/Benji thing started our attack has been completely unstructured. Like the way Benji used to play. Problem is we don’t have anyone like him in our squad.

I think the problem with the attack is that it’s too conservative and one out most of the time until they get behind by double figures in the second half and start providing some offloads and passing … Luai hasn’t done much to help that clunky play either with his sideways running … today was the first time I can remember a halves combo with Latu and Luai and both were ordinary … although behind a very badly beaten forward pack

I’m giving both halves a pass this week given I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team so dominated physically.

Benji needs to fix it.

After watching what ciraldo can do with a decent squad every week no Matter the player they all turn up ready to go knowing the jobs. I just can't keep defending benji. Yes our squad is in desperate need of some forwards with impact but I don't see the improvements I was expecting out of this year. We seem to be getting worse. That's why I scratch my head when I hear we don't need backs and this and thst. We need 3 or 4 quality players before we can dream abt making finals.
Was that too much ?
This club gets you in the mood like no other

We could sign whoever we want. The coaching isn't there and until that area improves we are at a disadvantage regardless of who is coaching us. Benji a part of 2 spoons and we're now a competitive 14th.

Alex Seyfarth also a consistent contributor in that area, a part of 3 spoons 👀

mostly our attack is one out one out easily picked off .And just about nothing in the red zone

Did you start watching rugby league last week?
Both halves were poor today.
Our attack always looks much better when we have a first receiver digging in and getting across the advantage line fast.
It worked from an attacking point of view when Latu has briefly played that role, it has looked ok in glimpses with Bird playing that role and looked much better today once Doueihi played that role.
We don’t have enough speed or creativity in our team to be able to afford a 3rd prop such as Twal playing 13.
I realise the theory is playing a 3rd prop at 13 as an extra big body, particularly when defending, but it’s stunting our attack, making us predictable with far too much one out running which is farthest for our opponents to condense their defence.
What are your thoughts on what is going wrong Snidest ?

But then we were physically dominated as well even with that bigger body there ? No easy answers unfortunately….

Our attack looked much better when Doueihi was getting across the advantage line and giving Luai and Latu more time and space to play.
Do we bite the bullet and start games with a 13 who can play this way ?
Douehi would highly likely get fatigued and struggle defensively if playing big minutes in this role, so you would need someone to interchange him and Jack Bird is the only other one who can play this type role reasonably well.
To compensate we would ideally need both edge back rowers helping out the middles and making close to if not over 100m on a regular basis and they should get better opportunities to do that if we play a more expansive game for the full 80mins.

that tactic sounds like League 101

I think we just need to let
Latu play half for the rest of the year
Luai play five eight for the rest of the year
Douhie play lock for the rest of the year
( but I’m not confident his defence will hold up)
Tiny to play centre for the rest of the year

Our forwards need to find some ‘intent’ in everything they do

Pole needs to run and play the ball instead of slowing everything down by arguing with the ref

We need to find some ‘direct’ forwards similar to Erin Clark or Davy Moale

We need some tough hard nose experienced guys, and I would have no problems with these 3 for a year of 2.
Papa from Raiders to help develop our younger ones
Daine Gagai as he is class and hold up 1 side of the field.
Tyson Fitzell - He just adds the hard nose we lack.

This would not stop our juniors progressing, but they would help WIN NOW.

chopping & changing isn’t going to help. our team looks like they met each other yesterday because there’s no continuity and the club obviously doesn’t value combinations. hard to look like solid in attack with 7 halves combinations then a new centre (ie bird) moved next to you in the middle of the game
