Juniors - Pathways General Discussion

Our Wests Tigers Cubs U18s comprehensively beat a travelling French U19s last night 54-18. The full game & highlights is up on Bar TV with commentary too. Although the opposition wasn't great, they did have a dig especially in the 2nd half to give our boys a good run.

Plenty to get excited about ...

Siotame Havea Jr was very strong at #13 especially in defence, line speed & directing traffic with his link play. He was even given 10 mins at dummyhalf and looked good there too.

Other standouts were fullback Aaron Paea, quick, elusive & skilful; Josh Vella on the right wing took about 3 excellent aerial efforts (2 for tries); James Lanyon half a game on the left wing, fast, elusive x-factor; Tom Goodfield elusive & fast at left centre; and, Christian Azzi arguably MOM with his direction, kicking game & even physicality in the halves.

Our big lumbering boppers Dane Ransom & Zac Khattar provided plenty of go-forward, Will Stone was again strong in the backrow; Lorima Cosgrave sharp at hooker & lock; Jhevon Lele started like a house on fire at halfback & big centre Elijah Lapu'aho was powerful and Blake Van Drie with his busy-ness & leg speed in the middle.

They looked to be well coached too and had more structure about them than our NRL team lol

What are your thoughts on Havea Jr in comparison to Kit Laulilli, remembering Kit had a similar reputation, a similar shorter chunky physique and was very successful in captaining our Harold Matthews team to an undefeated Grand Final win at the same age ?
I think Havea Jr looks to be quicker, more aggressive when defending and has better, more confident ball playing ability, but it will be very interesting to see how he develops as I do recall Kit having a similar reputation at the same age.

Havea has a lot of potential, similar type of players but would say Havea has the higher ceiling.

Yeah James is on a pathways contract with us until the end of 27. His brother Josese (JF hooker/lock) has another year which must be a NSW Cup contract.
James looks to be a great mover, looks to be possibly one of the quickest players at our club ?
Josese has a strong running game, good ball playing ability and reminds me of a younger version of Siliva Havili.
