Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

This is not the only thing ol mate was saying though … he said there was a racial element involved … every team has clicks…. Much more serious and frankly hard to believe if it’s based on race
Especially at our club , considering how multicultural it is . And always has been . My guess is he was referencing the Sheens love affair with woodsy and Groat over himself . Which was fair enough really , as Fifita was dynamic and powerful , but had a low motor , and gave a way a lot of penalties . The game was also still transitioning into Massive unit packs , and power game tactics , of which Sheens had been left behind re. That tactic .
Groat was the “prodigy” of the 3 , exposed to nrl too early , got smashed a few times , and never really recovered .
I find it ridiculous an islander would claim a team based in the shire would been more accepting of racial diversity than a team from out west . Sheens had his favourites . He always did . For better and worse . Look at Fitzhenry, , McDonnell , Groat etc. whilst he was good at finding diamonds in the rough , k think he felt himself too much , and his ego used to deny him the ability to see what was obvious to most … Fifita was better than all of them . Even his brother was worth the long term investment , much like Sione was at the moment. No one had the patience back then , and we paid for it ..

A couple of things stood out for me AGAIN yesterday within our playing group ...

1 lack of footy IQ
2 lack of intense players

We make poor, at times dumb, decisions or players losing concentration, whether that is opting for short dropouts with a big wind at your back, not getting to dummyhalf, not knowing who to pass it to, stupid penalties. This is a regular thing with our club and it's amongst our leaders too.

We seem to have players who like to cruise along, more passive in nature, lack aggression & line speed. We lack players who go at it 100 miles an hour or have a bit of killer instinct. Taylan May comes in & straight away you know he brings it.

What are people's thoughts ...

Is this a coaching thing? Is it the standards that Benji sets from pre-season onwards?
Is it a poor mix of player personalities? Too many quiet, passive followers?
Roster. The starting pack on the weekend was Terrell-Hope-Twal, Sukkar-Bird, Doueihi. Bench forwards were Seyfarth, Pole and Api. That just won't cut it for regular go-forward, intensity or power. Also Pole has had a bad run with handling and tackling. There's no threat in the backrow outside of Samuela who is borderline injured most weeks.

Could not agree more. Our backs are top 8 level if playing behind a good pack, buy they're not. I reckon we need 3 forward additions at quality first grade level plus KPP who has already signed.

On a racial basis with Fifita? You said if was based on ‘the players “origin’ )…. You are also now comparing two different things ..when Fifita was here 15 years ago and now…what’s the connection? I also think you are seeing what you want to see… Galvin and Tallyn maybe ..2 young guys hanging out… the other two hanging with the kids …nah not buying that
He mentioned this yes, but it was before social media. This is 15 years ago so forget about the racial side of things now and it's just different social groups. I don't know if this exists at other clubs hence the question.

The connection was Benji was our marquee player during that time and it was a throwaway comment but obviously it hit a nerve with you.

You can choose what you want to believe, and I'll have my own opinion thanks.

Sukkar had 2 runs in his stint. Go looking for the ball if it doesn't come.

Bit high for mine. I think his price at an established club is 400k-450k I think we’d have to pay 450k-500k.
Hopefully loyalty works out as I agree with you his versatility is undeniable.

I think if he was half back somewhere he could get 600k-650K

And with the cap going up 400K is way to low

Would love for him to move to lock if we can find another Prop Tui from Melbourne would be a good pick up for two years

AD fixes so many problems in a squad playing many positions and he is a very good player

Only 30 positions and Adam equals potentially 5 players I think his true value is around 550k if you had 3 versatile players like him you could potentially have a top 22 and 8 rookies in the top 30

And could go to market and pay extra to get players here

Need Bud Sullivan off contract to pay Doueihi that sort of money I reckon...

Off contract list on Zero Tackle is fairly grim but middle forwards I'd be looking at are;

- Corey Jensen
- Ethan Bullemor
- Josh Papalii
- Josh Kerr
- Felise Kaufusi
- Davvy Moale

Wouldnt break the bank but would provide us some more starch and resilience I belive in the middle. Obviously some more than others, i'd personally love Bullemor.

Isn’t the Manly forward Sipley off contract?

given how vocal Richardson's been about a lack of senior leaders any one of Jensen, Papalii and Kaufusi would do nicely. Mark Nicholls similar.

a good middle forward (ideally a lock) has to be the priority come November 1. we can dream about Tino but Ray Stone, Jesse Colquhoun, Liam Henry, Sam McIntyre and Siua Wong are all players I'd be looking into.

You are right, the cupboard is virtually bare with players that could improve us for season 2026.
- Corey Jensen is a good seasoned, tough toiler, but doesn’t have any real impact and now in his 30’s I’m not sure he’s any better than Alex Twal or Alex Seyfarth.
- Ethan Bullemor offers something different in way of hitting top speed with his ball carries very quickly. Quite a few on this forum have mentioned him as someone who would be an ideal recruit and I agree, BUT he’s managed by Isaac Moses so that could be a problem,
- Josh Papali’i now in his mid 30’s which is a concern. I just can’t see him being interested in coming to Wests Tigers unless we pay him big money and we realistically cannot afford to pay anyone big money for limited minutes.
- Josh Kerr has been great the past 2 seasons and provides very good impact. On face value he would be a great signing, but I’ve heard him openly say he’s happy and settled and really doesn’t want leave Brisbane.
- Felise Kaufusi is getting a bit old and injury proned.
- Davvy Moale is a good up and coming prop. I’m very surprised he has not already been be-signed by the Rabbitohs and think he’d be a very good signing if we could land him at a reasonable cost,

** As suggested by The Chad many times, Jack Hetherington is another currently off contract player who could add some value for a couple of seasons being a different body shape to what we currently have, he runs the ball strongly, plays with plenty of aggression and would add genuine competition to our too 17 forwards rotation. Discipline is his problem, could we coach good discipline into him at this late stage of his career ?

DT reporting we offered AD $350k he wants $450-$500k. I can live with that given we have cash from no Galvin & TDS. The bloke wants to be there.

TayMay I would say get similar money next year. So basically AD & TM for the price of Galvin.

The Saving of TDS to KPP plus we have plenty in the bank.

Only one really now on overs is Hunt

On the right money, Felise K and Josh P would cover us for a couple of years. We just need to bridge a gap until some better players come onto the market.

Both consistent performers and no glaring weaknesses. I don't think they hold any juniors back either.

Corey Jensen is to be retained by the Broncs.
