Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Anyone got the Javon Andrews article?
Wests Tigers have turned their attention to one of the most promising players in Queensland after tying down captain Api Koroisau to a two-year contract extension.
Koroisau was off contract at the end of next season but will now stay with Tigers until the end of 2028, keeping out the clutches of expansion teams Perth and Papua New Guinea.

His retention is a significant vote of confidence for chief executive Shane Richardson and coach Benji Marshall, who consider Koroisau an important piece of the club’s rebuild.

The Tigers made the three-time premiership winner a priority after releasing rising star Tallyn Da Silva to the Eels and with Koroisau now committed to the club, this masthead understands that they have now set their sights on Queensland under-19 five-eighth Javon Andrews.

Andrews, on the books at the Gold Coast Titans, starred for the Maroons in their State of Origin win earlier this year after overcoming a serious spinal injury that threatened his future early in his career.

The Tigers have now emerged as a potential home as they look to strengthen their own spine in the wake of Koroisau’s retention and the possible departure of Adam Doueihi, who has a one year offer on the table from the club but is exploring his options elsewhere.

Koroisau’s signature was the priority as the club looked to retain a player who is almost as important for his leadership as he is for his ability. The 32-year-old said he was happy to recommit to the team.

“This club has become family to me,” Koroisau said.

“I’ve felt nothing but support from the players, staff, and especially Benji – he’s someone I really admire and enjoy playing under.

“I’m stoked to re-sign and can’t wait to help lead this team for a few more years.”

Marshall described Koroisau as the “heart and soul” of the team.

“His leadership, experience and energy are invaluable,” Marshall said.

“Having him commit to our future is massive for the direction we are heading in.”

The Tigers have been locked in talks with Doueihi over an extension and have tabled a deal believed to be worth around $350,000 a season.

However, it is understood he also has interest from other NRL clubs and is likely to explore them before he commits to the Tigers. The Tigers are also cognisant of the need to keep money aside for next season as they look to re-sign centre Taylan May for next season.

May made a stunning return to the NRL at the weekend, scoring three tries in his first appearance in the top grade for the Tigers. The Tigers will take it slow with May as he continues his recovery from the off-field issues that threatened his career but the early signs are promising and club officials want to make sure they have the space in the salary cap to accommodate May should he maintain his form.

May could soon be joined in first grade but teenager Heamasi Makasini, who turns 18 next week and will immediately come into contention for an a place in first grade.

Makasini, still at high school, has spent the past few weeks in the NSW Cup and handled the step-up with ease. There seems little doubt he will play at some point in coming weeks as the Tigers unveil one of the most exciting talents in the club’s recent history.

The Andrew’s approach is perhaps done with an eye on 2027?
Agree , certain players may or may not stick around , Luai I think will stay but we would need to be moving forward , Last in 2024 10/12 in 2025 and battling for the 8 in 26. Would keep him in our colours .
API signed , KPP signed , Young May needs to be signed starts to look good

This love affair with Bullemor is baffling. He's a bench player for every club he has gone to, and he's not exactly bashing the door down for selection at the Sea Eagles despite losing both Aloia & Paseka for the season.

The much laughed at suggestion of Jack Hetherington....well, the Sea Eagles nearly signed Hetherington for the rest of this season.

Put the Bullemor fantasy in context with the Hetherington reality.

I'd take Tof Sipley over Bullemor for contract value alone.

Hetherington brings a presence on the field. What are you adding Bullemor for compared to what Pole & Sione Fainu already bring? Who in our pack do we look to for outright aggression when we are getting beaten up?

Adding names instead of abilities is probably where the club has gone wrong over the last few years.

I still think Jaiyden Hunt from the Broncos could add some size & power to the squad as one of those 25-30 roster spot guys. Plays pretty much any forward position, so handy off the bench.
You had me until you brought in Jack Hetherington

I watched the NSW v Qld under 19s. Javon Andrews was a standout, from memory he got MOM. Played 5/8 but big enough to play 13. Set up most of Qld's tries and scored the match winner. Strong in defence and kicked goals as well. Get it done Richo. Dropped a ball early with the line wide open in the game but he made up for that by dominating the rest of the game. Kid is a gun.

Red pen Hethrington …word is he is close to be re-signed at the Broncos…haven’t heard he is talking to other clubs …. Bulemor won’t leave Manly IMO…

You keep putting up guys for the bottom of the squad … they need better …I’d be looking for 2 more forwards that can be realistic options for the 17… maybe 3 if AD is walking

'Love affair' is a bit strong.

I had sensibly suggested Bullemor a while ago because he is a high-energy, 1%ers type of player, who is versatile and young enough to have plenty of football ahead of him. He plays at a high intensity, with high leg speed, good first-up contact and line speed and isn't overly sporadic. He averages over 110m and 97% tackle eff this year alone.

He's never been suggested as a marquee signing, but a perfect mid-range buy if the squad balance allows it.

He goes after the game more than the likes of Sukkar, Seyfarth and Twal and can play anywhere in the pack, including 13, which we are still trying to figure out.

He would be a good addition at the right price.

Remember, suggestions can be made without people mortgaging their houses on a every name they put forward being a silver bullet for the squad.

He's talking about Jack Hetherington from Newcastle, but he's also kak.

There isn't much on the market and I suspect Richo and Benji with sit on their hands until something comes up in the offseason. It usually does.

On order to overcome our weakness out wide there's a guy who played against the Lions in the rugby match who might be worth looking at apparently he had a good game and interested the Australian coach " Triston Reilly should be on his radar". He could be a good pick up as believe he has some league back ground too.

They are actually looking ok out wide now… with Taylan and Makisini… a move like this sounds unlikely for both parties and Reilly did nothing when he was here a couple of years back …
