I got your point but if we are showing a profit this year Richo is starting to turn it around - but probably by lean staffing as we clearly haven't got more through the doors through our performances. I think what you are saying highlights what Richo is trying to get after more corporate $ to helof fund the footy.
What the figues do show is that it probably takes around $5M to run a professionally run NRL team - about what other leagues club funded sides are spending. Warriors, Many and Cronulla spend significantly more of a much smaller budget (although they don't have the saem remit as HBG). Having said that HBG are only spending $4M on all of their grants across the board on all the sports - including basketball, hockey etc (5%).
HBG have 2 major objectives - to provide entertainment for their members and to support Rugby League in the Western Suburbs. 95% to that goes to the revenue generating clubs and those with their noses in the trough and less than 5% (in fact about 2.5%) to support the NRL team, Wests and Balmain JRL. I think that the figures clearly show that HBG are underinvesting in one of the organisations key objectives.
If we were continually in the top 8 there would be nothing to worry about; but we aren't. It wouldn't be too hard to figure out what the winning forumla is (support wise) and match it. It is not like there isn't enough cash to go around.
It could well be that they are sick of wasting money on and organisation that was run by clowns - clowns they appointed as a board and who operating under their guidance. One year removed and Richo has the organisation making a small profit. Imagine how much better we could be if we were funded. $ from West Tigers will only come if we can improve on the field, get a home ground that is profitable and provides quality services to its members.
They may be able to run some pokies, but appear to have NFI when it comes to meeting their other consitiutional objective. The independent board will probably be the most important thing that has happened since the JV started.
