Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Saints have been great this year. Even though we are close to them on the ladder, they are far far above us. They have been competitive in every match pretty much. They have looked really good. They have copped some horrendous refereeing, There squad is not a heap better than ours but they get alot more out of their forward pack. There whole pack contributes (not just stats wise either).
Saints only problem is the halves not closing out games. They could well be in the 8 with a better game manager at 7. In saying that we have lost a fair few by only a few points as well. Titans game was the only game we got the rub of the green with the ref's and imo the Titans were robbed. If refereeing were consistent though we would come out way ahead there are atleast 3 games we've been dudded by stupid calls. It's just the ebb and flow of a season. Our priority is learning how to overcome the dud calls during the game and maintain mental toughness that they don't effect us when they happen.

No doubt, but when he was with us he was a liability.

Here are some of the comments people were making back when he was in the team.

Craig Bellamy didn't seem to have the same opinion.

Correct.
I find it funny that over the past few years so many of our supporters were so knowledgeable about what was happening behind the scenes and wanted to blame Lee Hagipatelis for our on field issues, yet he was our only backer putting his hand in his pocket to try and help us and now we are crying poor saying we don’t have enough money being injected into our football club side of things ?
Anyway today’s game is huge in to context that the Bulldogs are always trying to screw us over, we need to make a statement with our physics and intent and should have plenty of motivation to do so.
If we don’t stand up and be counted I think it confirms we will need to make more hard hitting recruitment and retention decisions than we might think is needed.

You support Wests Tigers yet don’t like anything Wests Tigers have done for a decade and a half.

Sounds a bit like - I love my wife, I just hate everything she says and does 🤣
Your confused. I support Wests Tigers. I detest Wests Campbelltown because they're gutless cowards who sold up shop as soon as they could. Balmain because they were a huge part of the problem and HBG the current owners who imo are deadbeats. Who are only where they are because of the archaic system they have where the boys club holds the power. If their members could vote them in or out I would at least have some respect for them and think well this is what their members want.
Thank the Lord we have an independant board finally. Now all we need is either massive change at HBG so competent people can take over. Or privatisation to the right owner so finally the cancer that's been ruining us for 25 years can go. That cancer being the three leagues clubs who ran 2 football clubs that well they had to merge. Then got togeather to run the merged entity like it was a game of thrones, all the while the fans are the ones suffering.
Now tell me in the decade and a half of absolute trash we've been dished up as fans. What exactly have you celebrated?

And so did Sheens. That's why he recruited him from Fijian obscurity. The raw talent was obvious. The potential wasn't missed.

In the context of my previous posts, the point was in our system, we had him for 4 years and weren't able to get him up to an acceptable level of defence and sort his issues under the high ball.

Melbourne have been taking raw talent for years and turning them into brilliant first graders. What works for Melbourne wasn't going to work for us because we didn't have the structures in place. 4 years is a long time to work on a player and we didn't produce a result. They did it in a season.

I wish we could do what Melbourne does with players, but we have a history of not being able to do that.

That’s why we need to recruit trainers and coaches from these professional systems rather than mates of the HC.

Guys keep it in the other thread. Fair is fair to everyone else. It went on too far here yesterday.

Yep, that was my point. It was Potter who punted him and I thought he would have known better.

But we're a development club.....

It could be as simple as that or more system and structural, but whatever the cause is, something needs to be done in that area.

I think we've had some good coaches in the system in the past, but our systems and structures from the bottom up aren't aligned, so it's just setting them up to fail.

My opinion only, but that needs to be looked at and overhauled from the ground up which would include coaches/trainers etc.

I think you need to chill a little, try yoga or something, but pushing all your Leagues Club hatred aside (I think you could have thrown Ryde Eastwood in there for a cameo mention too 🤔) ... I’ll get to your question.

I’ve celebrated the wins and appreciated the gutsy efforts. I enjoy seeing the juniors advance to be NRL players - even if it’s not with us. I also think the never ending melodrama of the Wests-Ts is compelling and I often get a hearty chuckle out of the absolutely ridiculous stuff. Let’s face it, this club is entertainment central and I for one, wouldn’t miss a single day of it 🤣🤣🤣

Because they are smarter and tougher operators , we have paid big money for years to have players play else where , it hasn’t changed
Yep...

I mean honestly some of our signings have been above what I would expect. Papalii, Turuva, Luai, May...

But others were just guesses.
Latu Fainu only worked because of Samuela.
Sullivan was a badish signing, made worse by us signing the real halves later... 500k paper weight.
(naturally the Reynolds/Mbye *face Palm* etc signings).

What really gets me is we see players drop. Hunt is the clear example. Sullivan is another who has shown he can play at souths, but couldn't really play here (TLDR we can't coach halves). We need to address this.

I dont think thats a game to judge. Dragons were always a massive chance to win that. I tipped them. Raiders have been flat for a while and just getting the job done, while NRL teams simply dont keep losing. They always eventually win. That wasn't Flanagan and Klemmer leading a team to beat Canberra, that was Canberra having the loss that has been coming and the football gods doing what they always do
I think it’s important because the raiders are genuine contenders. We haven’t beaten one of those all year.
