Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Gov debt rates are tiny compared to private debt.
The Federal Government also borrows at a smaller rate then the state government. One of the cuts that Howard did was the aid to state governments. So you saw the debt "saved" be transfered to the state governments who paid a higher interest rate.

.. I could cut into all this. I don't think people care!

I care though about the next generation. The education cuts have hurt and we have seen a real shift in the classrooms. Kids are not paying attention. High school grads are going School -> Couch.
The smarter ones are going School -> Uni -> couch... The more active of those go and get a crappy job somewhere.... if they can.

Yes this "cut cut cut" mentality is to blame. Uni funding got cut, along with State gov funding. So the State gov's balanced their budgets by gutting TAFE. This leading to the great Hairdresser shortage of 2006, where the Immigration department bulk imported Hairdressers and short order cooks! ... Why because we gutted TAFE and did not train people up.

What people don't get: Unemployed/under-employed bums are just great at paying off debt..NOT!
This is the last I'll respond on this. The rates I gave you were RBA rates. The government does borrow from the RBA and also raises money in the bond markets. This is easy to fact check and I don't need you to lecture me in how finance and the economy works. I have multiple qualifications and lots of experience...particularly in the banking and finance sector.

I'm not talking about interest rates one may have access to from a typical retail bank.

The other stuff you wrote is your opinion which I have no comment on. I'm not interested in Keating, Hawke, Howard, Rudd, Gillard bashing. It wasn't the point of the original comment. I told you this was not a political discussion, but a financial one. This is not the place for either to be fair to the other forum users.

Dragons beat the top of the table Raiders with a rookie and Kyle Flanagan in the halves. Oh and their main metre eating prop was Klemmer.

I keep hearing how we don’t have the roster to compete and it’s not coaching. I think our roster looks way worse than it actually is because we have a budget footballing department.

I dont think thats a game to judge. Dragons were always a massive chance to win that. I tipped them. Raiders have been flat for a while and just getting the job done, while NRL teams simply dont keep losing. They always eventually win. That wasn't Flanagan and Klemmer leading a team to beat Canberra, that was Canberra having the loss that has been coming and the football gods doing what they always do

Saints have been great this year. Even though we are close to them on the ladder, they are far far above us. They have been competitive in every match pretty much. They have looked really good. They have copped some horrendous refereeing, There squad is not a heap better than ours but they get alot more out of their forward pack. There whole pack contributes (not just stats wise either).

far far above us but we beat them in our only meeting this year

St George have bought older experienced players to run near bottom of the table. Cook, Gutherson, Holmes, Klemmer etc will all regress or retire. Flanno does it well however, time will tell if they ever improve. I wouldn’t look at St George as a model rather Canberra. They bought all junior reps over many years.

I agree, but something noticeable is they have good speed across the park and are capable of slick ball movement.

Everything has a price.
Correct.
I find it funny that over the past few years so many of our supporters were so knowledgeable about what was happening behind the scenes and wanted to blame Lee Hagipatelis for our on field issues, yet he was our only backer putting his hand in his pocket to try and help us and now we are crying poor saying we don’t have enough money being injected into our football club side of things ?
Anyway today’s game is huge in the context that the Bulldogs are always trying to screw us over, we need to make a statement with our physicality and intent and should have plenty of motivation to do so.
If we don’t stand up and be counted I think it confirms we will need to make more hard hitting recruitment and retention decisions than we might think is needed.

It has been HBG and all other stake holders fault. How can an owner of anything involved with sport sit back and allow 14 years of absolutly no success, multiple attempts to rebuild the squad resulting in busted salary caps, disgruntled current and ex players, multiple successfull coaches coming and going with out any noticeable improvement, leaks like the titanic, boardroom in fighting for 25 years. And sit there the whole time trying to fix it yet every attempt you have made has failed over the past 14 years which is proof in and of itself that you don't know what your doing. In terms of the funding you don't need to be a genius to know were underfunded, its common sense after 14 years of no success to think you know what maybe I need to throw money at the Tigers so they can bring in the best and brightest in their respective fields to turn it around, set up more pathways than we have to bring more kids in we can choose from. No why ask it's just the coach's fault. Players fault. Fans fault for not becoming members. Campbelltown councils fault cause the stadium is old. HBG and all other owners were totally incompetent and have no idea what they're doing. They approached Gus who agreed to come as long as we paid him $1 more than our highest paid player. They refused. Complete imbeciles who only use the Tigers as a personal play thing. Wests Campbelltown, Balmain and HBG are all totally clueless we know this cause they were forced to merge, if they had a clue they wouldn't have needed to. They were useless and braindead then, they're still useless and braindead now, our fantastic owners.
Nice rant.

My sole question after reading all that is - so what do you actually support ?

If you say ‘the jersey’ I’m gonna vomit 🙄

I had a theory, (to go with all the other theories when tipping), that NRL sides don’t win or lose more than 6 games in a row.
When you get to this level all the players are good, and winning at this level for a month and a half it’s easy and it takes it out of ya team. Then it only takes a little bit of crack for the other team of good players to get on top.
Similarly for a side loosing, they are still a bunch of good players, usually playing poorly as a group, but then when they click one week, look out.
But then the Tigers had to go and ruin that and all other tipping theories with their record setting wooden spoon run.

Nah, they have no depth and they rely far too much on aging players.
Souths is strange...
They backed Cody Walker, who sure had been playing good for them. But they backed most of their aging squad. Punting Damien Cook, who ok is slowing down... the rest they have been unusually charitable.

I suspect Wayne may not have the energy for a full cleanout yet. He tapped Alex Johnson on the shoulder (how I wish we got him instead of AD however many years ago...)...

Meh, not our problem. We still can't beat these grandpas so we have to do better.
