Adam Doueihi #227

Latu is a massive talent, no doubt about it.
But it is very clear he is a quiet, reserved type of person and the responsibility of being out on the ball number 7 was hindering his running game.
He looks like he’s either a 6 where he played as a highly rated junior coming through, or a 13 where he looks very comfortable and there is no reason why he couldn’t spend 29 minutes per game at 9 allowing Api to have the rest he needs.
The alternative is to let Doueihi go, play Latu at 7 and hope and pray it works, otherwise use our fall back option in Jock Madden.

Your expectations around a 20 yr old that has played about a dozen games are massive..

Benji has said he is the 7 ..not Douehi … why don’t you believe him ?

Was there a story getting around that if Doueihi signs elsewhere then Moses gets his cut as Doueihi's manager, but if he signs here then Moses takes no part because Doueihi is doing the negotiations with Wests Tigers so there is no commission involved.

If there is any truth in that story then I think you could possibly be onto something, plus the fact that I think he would prefer to stay here rather than go elsewhere.

I’ve heard this about Bula’s option ,…Not AD

Why take the risk of Latu at 7 when we have a proven Doueihi

I know about Bula's option, this was a separate thing regarding Doueihi.

Ok …I haven’t seen the Doueihi/ Moses thing mentioned in the media …

Seems a bit odd to me …Moses is getting the Tigers to increase their offer by getting a better deal on offer from another club … but if AD signs at the Tigers he gets nothing…make it happen AD!

Yet look at the effort 5mins or so to go when Curran charged the ball down.

What about him getting back onside when Skelton got tackled and he set Bula up.

His urgency when Burton dropped the ball and he was holding the line then rushed up.

People see what they want to see.

I’ve been critical and still want more from him but this year has been a marked improvement. The Bulldogs game should be his blue print.
No, I definitely saw all of that and I'm not brushing it aside. It was clear that he had a great game and was probably the best on the ground. But was he doing what has been asked of him and that the what is reflected in the offer. Noting that what is reported is bullshit media speculation or IM speaking out of his proverbial - Richo isn't talking.

IF the Bulldogs game is his blueprint it is a fail. Not because of his highlights, but because of the bits of the gameplan that were asked that he didn't do. The stuff I pointed out that isn't happening - despite a great performance.

AD is playing well - but he isn't, and has very rarely, done the 1%ers on the paddock that we need (or more importaintly for AD - that the coaches are looking at). Line speed, kick chase, inside pressure etc. These are the things that tip games.

Let's just look at one aspect of the game - the kick chase. AD demonstrated on the weekend that he has some speed. He is also a former fullback so he can get up and take a ball. When is AD leading the chase? When is he up competing for the ball? He should be the alternate Bula - but he isn't. He trots down the field keeping the line and doing what he has to. That is not good enough for a guy in a key position.

Luai may not be preforming with ball in hand - but he is doing all of the little things. The ball in hand shit will come - wish it happened earlier - but he is all over the foundation plays that build a successful team

Interested what position you see Latu should be playing …both the rest of this season and next year if AD takes up the extension and stays ?

The only story I’ve heard remotely like this was with Bula.

I think Benji will take it game by game, I really think the kicking game in the wet was the reason AD played at 7 insted of Latu. I think it is more likely to be AD at 13 and Latu at 7. There may be a bit of a rotation policy - AD to start, and then bring Latu on once things have settled a bit.

If we are truly developing Latu it would be good to have AD as a bit of a foil at times to give him space and as he develops his ability to control the team. Having said that I noticed on the weekend that AD wasn't doing much directing - the noise was coming from Api and Luai.

The alternate is to have him playing in Cup - but I don't see the benefit. He has shown he is past that level and needs to be adjusting the NRL pressure.

I can understand why our club hasn’t upped the offer significantly

We have about 600k tied up in Sullivan
1.3 mil in Luai
500k in Fainu
3-400k in Andrews

That is about 2.5-2.7 mil tied up in halves alone

Very bad management to start with IMO

2.7 mil could have gotten us Luai and another marquee halfback, Fainu as depth

Sullivan’s contract has screwed us

What I can’t get over is after this weekend Adam Doueihi is the next Andrew Johns.
And Latu Fainu now isn’t up to being a starting half in our team.
And of cause Brett Naden is a promising centre again.
What a difference a win makes to people’s opinions,
But I should remember that will all change again in the near future.

I'm just throwing this out there..I have no idea of contractual agreements atm BUT I think for next year and it's a big call,we need ..
1.Bulla
6.JL
7.Douhi
9.Appi..
As a stable spine,Latu is a talent but Benji said also it takes a lot of time to learn the position he plays..
Latu can learn in cup but can have some spells in NRL,blood him as the season progresses..the good thing is that AD can play other positions if injuries hit which would give Latu opportunities to cover the 7 if A D has to move to cover other spots..
The big thing I'm saying is the our spine was chopped and changed so much this year that we need a stable spine to gel and do the work needed to get the team working as a unit..

I think your anti Douehi bias is showing. You could make the same points for every tiger player this season. he is not on $1.25m. and has been our best player in the last 3 0 4 games. Hard to say that about many other players on big money.. He's got to be the best value for money player on the roster ,if we can keep him. can play anywhere in the back line, can kick goals and has long kicking game. His defence has improved and he has plenty of speed. I don't know what you want from him. I wish we had a few more like him in the squad.

Dragons have upped their offer for Adam Doueihi .. they are prepared to pay him $500K a season for the next two seasons.

How much are we prepared to pay him on a two season offer .. ??

We should not let him go to saints. See previous post. Casn play anywhere in team and is reliable. not many in team fit in that category for $500K per season. Also, he is a tiger junior.

The thing is Droppy I'm not anti AD. What I am describing is why he isn't the answer if we want to enter a premiership window. I have stated that he is a good player and I have acknowledged his performances over the last few weeks. I also think he potentially has a place in the team as depth or as a utility.

I have pointed out the issues with his game that support why the club have taken the approach they have. It shows why we shouldn't bend the cap out of shape just because he is a good guy and adds some utility value.

What he is doing very well is filling holes during a transition period. Great player to have in the club? Sure, but we don't need to be paying him halves money when he is not in the conversation.

In short AD has utility value; but as a starter in any of the postions he is not at the standard we need going forward.
