I am 100% sure they are still spitting chips on that move. Bad move and I hate the Chooks. Yet I am not going to deny that their team is making the 8 with all the noise around DCE and punting 2 star centers. I think they are managing well (perhaps without cap restrictions) even though they made a dumb move in letting May go.

I am also a Campbelltown boy. I just love the area, sure strugglers but nice people.
The heart of NRL is going to be in the 'burbs. So many people I know are moving out because they can't afford places near the center of sydney. It won't be Epping or dare I say Leichheart where your going to see a stack of kids lace up for NRL.

Yes even if there are kids there, they will be playing Union at the private schools. I mean there will be some talent, and Easts/Dogs/Manly/Sharks/Souths will be vying for them.

Now we did not have to say "YES" to C'town... but If we say NO to C'town (or Macarthur/further out), we would have to make our base in the Blue Mountains and compete with Penrith, North coast and compete with Manly or start talking WA/SA/elsewhere.

My numbers are from here which is a government issued document which says the estimate is around 4%.

This report states a total 206,000 people of pacific islands ancenstry in all of Australia in 2019...the government seems to obscure ethinicity statistics these days so it's the best info available.

Indians are around 850k in all of Australia as a reference.

It's not a facebook post, it's an NRL press release which should be a somewhat reliable source. Yeah there isn't any actual citation to where the number came from, but I'd assume the NRL would be able to source government statistical information relating to ancestry for strategical development reasons. However, based on what I've personally seen in ABS records relating to Campbelltown ancestries the 10% figure does seem slightly high but the article doesn't exactly mention specifically what areas are involved in this figure other than "campbelltown heartland" so could be including all areas in the junior catchment area but even still this figure would be most likely be too high.

I also read your document and pulled this out on page 66

Pacific people account for 1.3% of the NSW population, composed mainly of individuals of Tongan, Fijian, Samoan, Cook Islanders, and Maori descent(11). The largest population of Pacific people reside in Campbelltown LGA(12)

SWSLHD is home to one of the largest populations (33%) of Pacific communities in NSW

meaning that approximately (as this only includes the 3 biggest Pacific Island groups) 8.58% of the NSW Pacific Islander population resides in Campbelltown. Which is pretty significant given Campbelltown represented 2.12% of the NSW population overall.

Additionally, Table 14 of page 23 shows there are 4,588 Samoan and 1,731 Maori heritage individuals in the Campbelltown LGA as of 2016. Based on 2021 Census data there are now 5,299 Samoans and 2,040 people of Maori heritage which is a 15.5% growth in Samoan and 17.9% growth in Maori ancestries over 5 years. As a comparison Indians grew 23.3% which is hardly that much more (2016 data here).

Seems like not only are there lots of Pacific Islander people in the Campbelltown area, but a large proportion of them are also children. Well wouldn't that be handy for someone trying to establish a team in the South-West given 52% of NRL players have Pasifika heritage.

??! I used to play for the Two Blues . They recruit around the whole western suburbs districts , funded via the leagues club. In my age group all the best players went there . There and Guildford . Both with grounds backing into leagues clubs.
I don’t recall ever having played with Vietnamese player . It was until I was much older that i recall playing with a Vietnamese guy. .
That’s not much of an argument . Not too many locals to Cabramatta playing there .

But I think there is little chance of WT's moving to Macarthur/further out as you suggested.
And having a high Polynesian population, I can see a fanatical fan base for WT's.

This is a dishonest assessment. Firstly I didn't say anything about South West pacific population. I referred to Campbelltown. 33% sounds high until you look atvthe totals. Growth of 15% on 20,000 people is far less than growth on 100,000 people...my pointbwas always the demographic you are chasing is a tiny minority.

Let's get the numbers right. 9,078 males and 10,253 females in the SWLHD of Pacific heritage. Page 16.

If we are moving more games to Campbelltown simply to capture this extra 20,000 people (even though we already play fames there) and believe they will grow into a huge supporter base then at least make the argument that way. It seems to be what you're saying.

Now please slice the numbers to exclude non league fans and people that don't support the club at all. What exactly are we aiming at?

Because the initial discussion was around Indians, Filipinos and Chinese taking up league in droves as supporters...these groups make up the vast majority of South West. Not Pacific Islanders.
