Finals week 1, 2025 discussion

The 2025 semi-finals are locked in with a schedule surprise from the NRL.

After losing to the Broncos in golden point, the Raiders will host the Sharks on Saturday night, allowing the winner to face the Storm in a preliminary final on the following Friday night - avoiding the next day’s AFL Grand Final.
V'Landys is bullish about not locking in grounds ,home ground advantage ,or days for next year ,how that impacts the bargaining agreement can be solved by with more or less cash.
If you can't beat em ,learn to get along

Weird that there is no Friday night game next week. Dogs and Panthers play Sunday. Odd, because whoever wins will have a shorter turn around and have to go to Brisbane. Not sure what the logic in moving a game from Friday night, where the winner would get at least a 7 day turnaround.
I don't think it's any suprise that a doggies home knock out game is during the day and not on a Friday or Saturday night.

I think Carrigan has the bigger problem, direct contact to the head by his shoulder, based on recent events got to be one or two matches but with such a big game upcoming does he get dispensation ?
Look at Nicho Hynes last week ?

Young ran more than 10mts to shirt front a player who was off the play. Walsh was entitled to stand his ground and should never have been sent off. OTOH, the decision to send Young to the bin was correct imo.
What?
That is arse about.
How many times do you see players do what Young did?
People like Mulitalo or Liam Martin do it half a dozen times every game. I don’t like it, but it’s not rare. Walsh on the other hand got baited and reacted poorly. He tried to headbutt him then forcefully shoved him to the ground. He admitted as much post game.
Almost 100% of the time that is a penalty against Walsh.

What rule did Hudson break to cop 10 minutes?
Very good question. I don't bash referees on this forum but I have real doubts about Ashley Klein. He knew he had to bin Walsh and the best way to even it up was to bin Hudson for what was basically gamesmanship. You'd bin 10 players, at least, if you applied that rule to every game.

Don't want to verbal you here but, are you saying the correct decision would have been to bin Hudson and leave Walsh on the field?

Well today we see how gutless the NRL are
Carringan - Direct shoulder charge to face/ Head. - should be out for weeks
Walsh - Headbutt - same charge in 2023 - should be out for weeks
But the nrl know the broncos will get flogged if these 2 don’t play , simple , rules for Std season , state of origin , Finals , that’s why the game is stuffed
Carrigan - 4 weeks
Walsh. - 3 weeks

Just to throw the cat amongst the pigeons - Wonder if people still think Maguire can't coach?
Does help he has some good cattle.

sharks at $2.44 against raiders looks a pretty good bet. Sharks have good forwards they should be able to hold those canberra forwards.
That won’t last long. Sharks were already a big chance next week imo. That sort of loss is demoralising to have to come back from. We did in 2010, going down to Canberra ourselves.

About as hurtful as Roach patting the ref on the head but what would expect froma glamour boy? Wouldn't want to mess up his make up.
Ya but all the kids watching the game , thousands of them start o think it’s ok to do it , it’s a dog act and he should be rubbed out of the game for doing it , how hard don’t matter ,

No argument from me re the act; my comment was more re the difference between what used to happen and now.

Time will tell but I think you're right. Both will be treated leniently.

As a spectacle for all fans I want to see the best players playing in finals. We have seen inconsistencies in fines, suspensions, refereeing decisions all season. None of what I saw yesterday deserves any player to be sitting on the sidelines. Smithies got off for a headbutt against the WTs a few weeks ago. Ricky's got the blinkers on again.
