Hope not as that means we have had a shocking 2026 for Benji to get sacked

I was just speaking to Jack Bird. He said he was given permission to negotiate elsewhere (as we know). Manly were interested but that looks like it’s off. He said he had a few personal issues during this past season which affected him on the field and he got down to 90kg. He said they are now sorted and he’s been training his arse off. He’s now up to 97kg and he looked every bit of it. Looking very fit.

Great intel @Wiz . Might explain the club pushing the button on Bunty Afoa rather than a Bird - Nathan Brown swap. Here's hoping he lives up to his word because the real Jack Bird at 97-98kg is ideal as our 2nd row / centre utility.

Yeah let's hope his personal issues were the cause of his poor form. Certainly understandable, as everyone would play crap of they were struggling off field, thats just human nature. The few games I saw live i was shocked at how small, gaunt and sick Bird looked. So this does explain a few things. Like you say,at his best he is a very valuable utility. Ill stay open minded on him leading into 26

He started the year well. Need that form back if he is staying.

Good to know his personal issues are sorted, but it’s not gonna change his usefulness for us. He’s cooked.

I met Brian Kelly years ago...told me his family are all mad Tigers fans lol.

Take this with a grain of salt.

I’ve heard some whispers that the club are positioning themselves to make a big play for Payne Hass when the Nov 1 deadline approaches within the next few weeks.

I’m sure there’ll be a queue - he does have his ring now so money and a new challenge could be a motive.

Regardless there’s definitely an interest from our side.

It’s a pointless excersize as it’s quite obvious he would only even consider leaving Brisbane for substantially more money.
Even if we went as high as 1.5 million per season I still don’t think it would be enough as the likes of the Bulldogs and Roosters, Eels could get him big 3rd Party deals on top of his contract money.

That’s a dumb play.
We need multiple new recruits.
Spending the majority of our dough on one guy won’t help us too much.
