Breaking news: HBG takeover

This was yesterday's take on the situation by the SMH -

The views of O’Farrell were echoed on Tuesday morning by Gary Barnier, the co-author of a 2023 report on the Wests Tigers’ governance which led the Holman Barnes Group to recruit the four independent board members in January this year.

Barnier called on the game to put in place an administrator “to protect the NRL’s ambition to be a global game”.

“This behaviour is not consistent with that, in my view,” Barnier told this masthead. “I don’t say it lightly, I say it because of my concern that this will disrupt Wests Tigers so fundamentally that it will put them back for another decade.

“As a distant observer, it seems to me there is a continued desire to bring back Wests Magpies at all costs, including the destruction of Wests Tigers if necessary.”

And how did that work out? Only way forward is to leave the past behind in this situation.
You’re being opportunistic. BOF getting the flick has nothing to do with his Tigers sympathies. The other 3 independents got flicked too and, as far as I’m aware none of them were old Tigers supporters.

It's 4 people they had to contact. They even had their CEO make the announcement, with the board hiding in the shadows again. Weak-ass human beings, acting like weak, amateurish leaders.

Yeah it’s ordinary … nothing new there …

I reckon he’s working things behind the scenes including at NRL GQ

He has known PVL a while … the longer he stays the longer he can get in his ear about how to proceed

Let me know when you find out a valid reason for all this cos it sure looks like another HBG f$&k up to me.

I’m pretty sure we made a big play for Gus to be our inaugural coach. But can’t complain too much, cos we ended up with Sheens and climbed the mountain. It’s a crime that we didn’t build on that.
The crime was the initial set up and poor quality of human being recruited under the initial set up. Pearce was still running around with his footy shorts mentality with no real clue about culture.Sheens was handed a rabble and thankfully arrived when our own kids came through

I think he is gathering facts.

The board members even had to find out from Carayannis - how piss poor is that. So I'm guessing Richo was in the dark on this one too.

Plus, he has an employment contract, unlike the board.
Speaking of Contracts, if I were Charlie Viola, the ex Independent Board member and owner of PepperMoney the major sponsor of the WTs, I'd be fine tooth combing the sponsorship deal to see if the get-out clauses are covered by this nonsense from HBG.

In my opinion Wayne Pearce as great a player he was started this whole rot. He was not equipped to manage a roster and recruit players. Set us back decades.

And that's from an old Balmain fan.
Totally agree, he was a terrible coach but it’s a bit tough saying he started this whole rot. He coached in 2000 and we won the comp in 2005.

With barely a member of the original set up remaining. And every outer club recruit he brought in being a disappointment. He stated it

I truly don’t get your point. What on earth are you disagreeing with now. Do you think I support HBG or I’m an apologist for their actions this week. If not, your post had me flummoxed.

Ok,,, I’m not so sure ..I’ll have to wait and see ,,,they have the same issue with HBG itself who actually run licensed clubs … if they allow that to operate ,then why worry about a football team ?
They made the decision to sack the independent directors as actions they undertook serving as a board for a licenced business...the actions don't have to be related to outcomes within the licenced premises...rather it is related to the potential incompetence of the board or decision making from them that is not in keeping with the wishes of a majority of their members.....it will come to nothing in my opinion as liquor and gaming are very bureaucratic and this is a very ambiguous area.

The claim from the HBG spokesperson is that things were happening without them knowing.
Without them knowing means decisions being made without being presented to the board.
You must have never worked for a company of any importance as you would or should know anything of importance goes before the board before it is approved, that is how it works.
If the HBG spokesperson is lying, he will be found out.
so they didn't know about the Jersey before it was released...even though it was in the media and socials for weeks before...or they didn't know about the stadiums deal until it was released...even though it was discussed ad nauseum for months. Was it the signing of Taylan May? Based on everything i have read my "opinion" is that Richo and the independent board wanted more control, the HBG board said ok, but only if you can meet these KPI's related to financials and performance...they met the KPI's and HBG blew up the joint....nothing to do with jersey colours or NSW cup team identity.

The big question now is, what do the HB do to repair the damage caused by their decision. They have backed themselves into a corner with no obvious escape route. Not in their wildest dreams would they thought there would be such a backlash from every corner.

I guess first thing they have to find is some puppets dressed up as independent board members in order to have total control. You would imagine there is no chance of reinstating things to where they were no matter how loud the out cry is. Maybe a compromise might be the solution where HB replace most of there current board.

Personally I think they have caused so much damage that the NRL has to put a interim administrator in to they can find a solution
