HBG, Independent Directors Sacked

Me I'm just waiting to hear from Richardson and the NRL.

This whole conversation has been hi jacked by those who no doubt have ties to HBG. Working here to muddy the waters and shut down the widespread outrage felt by 99% of Wests Tigers supporters. So far it's working and good intentioned people are buying into it going back at them over trivial issues.

For now until we hear more from Richardson and the NRL this thread is counterproductive to shining a light on how out of line and intolerable the HBG actions are.

Sign the petitions, join the marches. Do your bit.
I'm afraid Richo will be given a substantial payout with conditions of confidentiality so won't be able to speak.

Just hope the NRL gets involved quick smart.

Your just playing with words.

Hypothetical - the new Wests Magpies continue to play home games at Campbelltown & Leichhardt. They have a token little Tiger on the sleeve. And nothing else changes beyond the emblem and the colours. Is that a “new identity entirely”? Sure it’s a hefty do over but it’s the same club simply running around with a fresh hue.

When Balmain changed the name of their club to Sydney back in the 90s and ditched Leichhardt - was that a new identity?

Change is always difficult - but people cope 🤷‍♂️

🤣 just an emblem, says the man who after 25 years still shows total disconnection from the Wests Tigers name and emblem.

No, I was responding to a heartfelt post by Lestronge 👇 which focused on jerseys, heritage, and kiddies being sad because they don’t think magpies are cuddly.

Not, as you suggested, the governance and lack of success of our club over the past decade and a half.

Seperate topics entirely

The only heritage I care about is from 2000 onward. Cause that's when my club was born.

I'm not a Leichhardt type. At all.

I was testing your logical consistency.

You failed, miserably.

So you, indeed, wouldn't 'support the club in whatever form it may reveal itself'?

You flat-out lied.

Good to know.
Technically I guess you’re right, but to be fair I don’t think the Wests Tigers becoming the Balmain Tigers is on anyone’s radar.
My comment was based on either the Wests Tigers (as is), or the Wests Magpies.

You’d get some mighty good odds on the third option.

PS Apologies for calling you a Leichhardt type

HBG, as ultimate owners, are 100% entitled to replace the Board of Directors at any time that they want, for what ever reason that they want. Point of fact, they don't have to give a reason. They can just call an Extraordinary General Meeting and, viola, it is done.

That being said, in the real world of business, such events are usually only reserved for malfeasance by the Board being sacked. Sacking a Board on a whim just doesn't happen in the world of business.
So the question to be asked is: what malfeasance was conducted by the sacked Board?

By any reasonable measure, the sacked Board was doing a good job. On field results improved, membership up, profitability returned. All in twelve months.

In the real world of business, such Boards are not sacked, they are rewarded.

Compare that to the results of the previous HBG dominated Board over the last decade.

I just want a single logical reason as too why HBG have acted in the way that they have. Just one.

In the absence of such a logical reason, I can only question the motives of HBG in essentially throwing a hand grenade into season 2026.

It is said that the definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over, yet expecting a different outcome.

I had thought that HBG proved to us fans that they weren't mad when they appointed an independent review of our corporate governance, found it was wanting, and changed course by appointing an independent Board. Clearly that would appear to be an error of judgement on my part.

I think I might drop a lazy $100 at $8 on the Tigers to get the 2026 spoon. I expect the odds will shorten shortly.

I replied to the Balmain portion of your “rant” . I even elaborated . The only people who keep mentioning Balmain are you and your cronies .
Every single time I’ve said I won’t support wests magpies .
For me it’s like this ;
When the Cleveland browns left for Baltimore to become the ravens , no supporters followed them .
When they started up a new team called the Cleveland browns in 1999, they had a ready made fanbase ready to go. I would be one of those fans. I’m not following the club to wests magpies , especially one that’s interest only lies in Ashfield . Which is why Wests Cambo have long held issues . So not only does this rebrand not serve the legacy of which my family is now 7 generations deep re. The tigers , but it doesn’t even serve the adopted locale in Campbelltown . It in fact would be an obvious return to a club that if the nswrl had thier way would have died in 1980.
I love the wests tigers . I see the wests as Campbelltown not Asfield . And I see the tigers as a nod to the past , which doesn’t exist anymore re. Balmain , and the team my kids support . My nephews support . The team everyone under 30 has grown up loving . FFS .
so high and mighty - you mentioned balmain yourself - you wouldn't be interested in the club unless their is some part of balmain attached -

"Honestly , as long as there’s a tie to Balmain , so something I can cling to"

To me that will be the same as him speaking. It speaks louder than words .

That decision will impact the decision we will all have to make moving forward. Ie do we still continue to support the club?

I'll be out for good if Richardson is puahed

I don't want to start anything, but black is the worst colour for a sports jersey if we're being honest. It absorbs heat.

The pure black and white jersey should be our special jersey. It could be released halfway through the season and sell like hotcakes. The Broncos did it for Black Dog Day, and I'm willing to bet it's one of their best-selling ever.
Black is quite slimming though.......some don't mind the heat in order to look a bit more svelte😉....as a playing jersey, yes I agree, probably something you might wear in the back half of the season.

I told you I don't care.

Go love being a magpie. Good luck.

Yeah so.....

Lucky for the Wests Tigers that there is a legacy to Balmain because if it was simply Wests, the Wests Tigers would be screwed, the Magpies have always had a losing mentality.

One thing that has been bothering me though about the wests tigers board makeup was the idea that the owners had veto power because they had more numbers on the board . I mean in principle that’s true , but I always felt like the Balmain delegate would have been more inclined to align themselves to the independents rather than HBG. So technically if Balmain is always aligned to independents just for arguments sake , they could easily vote to have the club sold to say Easts tigers , if they had full autonomy and control ( which they were gearing towards, it’s the real reason for the dismissal). It’s what @poopy_diaper was implying in his podcast .
I mean there’s a lot of assumptions there though. That Balmain would cut off its hand to spite its face , that the independents would be cool , let’s sell to a Brisbane club , etc .
But yea , if you’re clinging to power like Caesar at the fall of Rome , youre gonna be paranoid AF .
I doubt independence would have included the ability to sell an asset owned by the parent company. I think independence meant that they did not want to get sign off for recruiting players and staff, for getting jerseys approved, for signing new sponsors etc.... I can tell you for a fact (dont ask me how i know) that the whole Galvin signing saga and the $$ reported that we were going to offer him as well as the way he was coddled by the club and Benji was all driven from the HBG board....they wanted him to stay and commit ASAP and this forced Richo and Benji's hand.

So if it suddenly rebranded as Balmain Tigers, would you 'support the club in whatever form it may reveal itself'?
As he said...who cares? Things change. Need to move with the times. No big deal.

Just speculating, but my instincts tell me his narrative would change pretty quickly.
