HBG, Independent Directors Sacked

One thing that has been bothering me though about the wests tigers board makeup was the idea that the owners had veto power because they had more numbers on the board . I mean in principle that’s true , but I always felt like the Balmain delegate would have been more inclined to align themselves to the independents rather than HBG. So technically if Balmain is always aligned to independents just for arguments sake , they could easily vote to have the club sold to say Easts tigers , if they had full autonomy and control ( which they were gearing towards, it’s the real reason for the dismissal). It’s what @poopy_diaper was implying in his podcast .
I mean there’s a lot of assumptions there though. That Balmain would cut off its hand to spite its face , that the independents would be cool , let’s sell to a Brisbane club , etc .
But yea , if you’re clinging to power like Caesar at the fall of Rome , youre gonna be paranoid AF .
I doubt independence would have included the ability to sell an asset owned by the parent company. I think independence meant that they did not want to get sign off for recruiting players and staff, for getting jerseys approved, for signing new sponsors etc.... I can tell you for a fact (dont ask me how i know) that the whole Galvin signing saga and the $$ reported that we were going to offer him as well as the way he was coddled by the club and Benji was all driven from the HBG board....they wanted him to stay and commit ASAP and this forced Richo and Benji's hand.

So if it suddenly rebranded as Balmain Tigers, would you 'support the club in whatever form it may reveal itself'?
As he said...who cares? Things change. Need to move with the times. No big deal.

Just speculating, but my instincts tell me his narrative would change pretty quickly.

Other thing I would love to see is the govts applying pressure. I'd be like so HBG didn't approve the stadium plan, all good, then we can save the tax payers some money and cancel both Leichardt and Campbelltown stadium upgrades. Bugger them. The optics would be so bad.

No admission of anything wrong on the HBG side or their reps. Juat completely everyone else's responsibility or issue.

Even when asked about success, he puts it all on benji. Where is the frigging leadership?! Winning starts in the front office. Madge failed here, Ivan left here. They went on to kill it at other clubs. Why patton???? Why??? Frigging figure it out.

Its not the football department that has the issues. Its unqualified people, like your board, meddling for the blazers.

AP: There’s no doubt the Holman Barnes Group has a good track record of managing clubs – but less so when it comes to football clubs. It’s been 14 years since the Tigers last finals appearance. Why should fans have any faith in the regime?

DP: “Well, that’s correct. And that’s what we’re hoping to rectify under Benji Marshall’s leadership. If the football operation can keep progressing as they have, they’re on the improve. We’d like to see us get back to playing finals football.”

Adrian Proszenko: There was the big announcement at the start of the week about the removal of the four independent directors. Can you talk us through that?

Daniel Paton: “The crux of the matter here is about the 90 per cent owner of Wests Tigers having a minority say on the board.

“Now, there’s an agreement between Wests Tigers and Holman Barnes Group where certain decisions that are made need to come back to the owner for approval. That simply hasn’t been happening.

“And I can give an example of that – the stadium policy around Leichhardt Oval. So the announcement was that Leichhardt Oval would be the home of Wests Tigers for the next 15 years. The Holman Barnes Group board only found out about that with 16,000 other fans at Leichhardt Oval. Which is really bad for business, and it’s quite embarrassing really ...

My immediate follow up question to Mr Paton:

"Mr Paton, what were Mr Epifania and Mr Burgess, who are members of both the Wests Tigers and HBG Boards, doing when the Wests Tigers Board were taking these "embarrassing decisions"? In the Australian vernacular, are we to believe that their ears are painted on? Surely they could have pointed out that this was contrary to the viewpoint of the HBG Board and there should be further consultations before a final decision is made by the Wests Tigers Board"

not correctly accurate but close. There where promise made to a number of promising players made from 3-4 individuals no longer at this club that forced the hands of Richo/Benji.

Genuine question, so please do not take it the wrong way;
- Did the 4 Independent Board Members get paid and if so who was paying them ?
- Who pays Shane Richardson’s wage ?
- Where does the money come from for all of our Wests Tigers staff aside from the players who are paid by the NRL.

I would assume it’s coming from Wests Ashfield, but I could be way off the mark,

Just show the gap between the football club and HBG.

NRL grant largely.

And us, the paying customers.

When you say us, are you meaning revenue such as memberships and merchandise, match day revenue and sponsorship ?
Our pay TV subscriptions also pay for the tv rights money (NRL grant)

HBG probably don’t understand that we actually have some skin in the game, they don’t appear that bright.
