His religion was made important during the whole thing. I don't think it matters. His intervention was a service to his country and I'd say that regardless of what religion he was.

The real issue is that we have Muslims and Jews protesting each other on our land and that has led to a terrorist attack with 16 people dead. Let's focus on the correct issue and not waste energy on side arguments.

We are all Australians and live in a multi-cultural society. Laws are in place to protect us and they have for many years. Violence of this type is tragic and will be dealt with by our police and security agencies. Politicising the tragedy serves no purpose.

My great great grandfather was a protestant Irishman and my great great grandmother a catholic Irishwomen from what is now the Republic of Ireland. It would have been a lively marriage. They immigrated to Belfast, Victoria (now Port Fairy) for a better life and our family prospered in Australia. Does that make me an immigrant to this wonderful country? I guess it does and we need to remember 49.3% of Australians have one parent born overseas.

Ive known Lebanese christians...two families ..neighbours when i lived in Guildford..SW Sydney...heart of middle east gangland...they were wonderful people....the muslims however

I lived in Guildford for 26 years and had both Christian and Muslim Lebanese friends , I moved out west to Penrith but worked in the building game as a supplier and had many account customers who were both Lebanese Christian and Muslim never an issue , friendly , always offering food on sites as they would say Aussie come eat some good foods , they introduced me to some of the best food around
