Wests Tigers Lower Grade Venues

I was thinking of driving down from the Central Coast to watch the Tigers this Saturday and was hoping to make a day of it by seeing some lower grade games. This is impossible because all the other fixtures are being played at Lidcombe Oval, one of them (Jersey Flegg, I think) on Sunday. I know Lidcombe is the former Wests home ground and there is a nostalgic attachment to the venue, but at $40 for a ticket on the hill plus petrol money, to watch one 80 minute game, it is poor value and barely worth the effort. In my view, the Wests Tigers Jersey Flegg team, at least, should be scheduled to be played before Wests Tigers games, no matter which home venue. Anyone agree with me and can anything be done about it? Watching Under 23, Reserve Grade then the Firsts in the 80s - now that was good value!

When a day at the footy was a day at the footy! We're driving in from Central West, and it's ridiculous for one game, but for us, it's meeting up with friends as well.

Our NSW Cup (Reserve Grade) is playing on Saturday at 2pm at Lidcombe Oval straight after our Wests Magpies Harold Matthews and SG Ball games.
Our Jersey Flegg (u/21’s) are now playing at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday at 3m following our Balmain Tigers Harold Matthews and SG Ball games.

Unfortunately when theres only 3 games a year at leichardt, they can charge a premium, because its an in demand sporting event. People who dont follow the game as religiously see it as an event in the social calendar and $40 is nothing compared to some of the alternative options.

I don’t get why our reserve grade don’t play at the same venue as our nrl team at home games like Cambo and Leichhardt , how many will turn up to the Saturday reserve grade at Lidcombe , any one have an idea what size crowd the boys will be playing in front of , eg last years games , I would think only couple thou at best

NSW Cup (Reserve Grade) should definately be playing before our NRL team.

You sent me down a rabbit hole.

Looking at draw, there are 3 nsw cup matches playing before nrl this weekend..

Round 2
Warriors vs Raiders
Dragons vs Storm
Manly vs Knights

Round 3
Rabbits vs Wests
Parra vs Dragons

Round 4
Manly vs roosters
Warriors vs Wests
Panthers vs Eels
Raiders vs Jets

It looks like the magpies are doing it in Round 6 vs the knights at Campbelltown.

Round 13 and 14 there are opportunities for us to do it against the dogs and panthers, but the nsw cup games are being played at lidcombe.

Round 15 vs titans at leichardt we could play the roosters in nsw cup there but they are playing at Lidcombe instead.

Then in round 16 they do it again at Campbelltown for a double header when we play the dolphins (cup plays manly)

Round 22 we could play against the eels at commbank at koe, but the same day wests play the eels at lidcombe.

Round 24 nrl is at commbank.. cup is at lidcome...

So lidcombe is the preferred venue for nsw cup whenever a game is at leichardt or commbank... I guess we can all read between the lines.. its all about preserving the magpies as opposed the best interest of the wests tigers... because other nrl clubs play double headers wherever they can...

I wish I didnt go down this rabbit hole... like I needed another reason to think these dinosaurs weren't wests tigers first..

Couple of hundred

Lidcombe is joke. They need to be playing as many games as possible at Campbelltown. It gets ignored enough at an NRL level they could at least show some interest at Cup level.
I really hope PVL brings in a national reserve grade comp

Thanks for the info , I always loved going to the games and watch reserves and firsts play , never mind we don’t make the rules and unfortunately the players suffer small crowd , Lidcombe V Cambo with nrl side is thousands apart , players suffer poor turnouts Tigers board Needs to step up

The NRL should make it a requirement that clubs must always have their Reserve Grade Team playing before their NRL team for home games, except if they are playing in Las Vegas or Magic Round.
I actually prefer the reserve grade playing the day after first grade. With the extended bench that allows the blokes that don't get a run to get a game the next day and keep them match fit.

True in that sense, but the players are genuinely more up for the game and it’s a better quality game when they play prior to the NRL fixture.

And with HBG calling the shots again Campbelltown will most likely get ignored again. I’ve been vocal about Campbelltown and the fan attendance being a problem but I don’t see it improving with HBG in charge again. Under Richo it would’ve been a possibility.

Agree it should always be the game played prior to first grade. Vegas and Magic Round is understandable but I think interstate games could be fine at Lidcome but I agree 100% the NSW Cup game should always be played prior to first grade playing. HBG only care about Lidcome though.

We should not be paying any games at Lidcombe unless our First grade squad are out of NSW that weekend.

This complete failure is completely fault of HBG. They demand that the team be called the magpies and play as many games as possible at Lidcombe.

It's an insult to the members and players. It denies fringe players the opportunity to continue developing and getting match practice.

Write to the club and ask them to switch all future NSW cup matches to the same ground as the NRL squad.

It's absurd and actually damages the players and ability to win for both the Magpies and Tigers. The ONLY winners here are the dinosaurs at HBG.

If the NRL make it so HBG will have to comply, too F bad if they don't like it, the competition doesn't revolve around them as if they're entitled.

Yeah totally agree, it's a special day so have all the grades on.

But it stands out like dogs balls that Wests need to be on at Lidcombe (Wah wah wah) in front of a few hundred people, we know who came up with that idea. FMD

I wrote to the club asking why but we already know.
