Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

It's good to be able to discuss the many good young players we have at the club who potentially are NRL players. I am pleased Tavana can come in against one of the most physical and skillful teams in the NRL and play an influential game. I enjoyed the way he attacked the ball which is usually the Warrior's game against us. Hopefully many good young players follow him into our NRL team.

So they backed him. He was given opportunity at 6 on numerous occasions. Everyone who played beside Brooks carried the burden for his lack of leadership and decision making and were moved around to accommodate him. He was always backed by coaches and teammates he just never rose to the challenge. He is the same player at Manly - has all the natural ability but rocks and diamonds.
I can bag the club for doing lots of things arse up but can't cop blame for Brooks career.
Reminds me a bit of what's happening with Lachlan Ilias, difference is that Bennet identified the fact he is not going to manage the team or deliver them success so he punted him. We persisted with Brooks and whilst it has feathered his nest financially it messed up our team for years. I don't hold a grudge towards Brooks, the reality is we were desperate and could not attract quality halves and he was probably the best we could hope for at the time. I'm just glad it seems that those days will be behind us.

He was never a fraud, he was victim of the wests tigers playing players out position. He grew up a 6. Stood out as a 6. And this stupid club thought they'd try make him a 7. I feel sorry for him
He was played out of position at WT that's for sure.
But I do not feel sorry for him.
He was very well paid and would most likely be a multi-millionaire and under 30 years of age.
Poor Brooksy---he gets the last laugh---- all the way to the bank.

Can we re-open a HBG thread? Looks like they might be buying a stake in Central Coast Mariners - who Shaun was the former CEO of

I read that article …. Looks to be a small share only I understand …they won’t be running the club.. is there much more to discuss ?the discussion in those threads tends to wander a bit

Plus he and Moses were a dynamic duo. IMO Brooks needed someone to play off and became lost when Moses left and he was expected to step up on his own. And he rarely did !
I think at Manly firstly DCE didn’t really give him what he needed and so far Fogarty hasn’t either.
That duo at our club were never dynamic! They were shit and often looked like they’d never played a game together in their lives!

Feel for the bloke. Essentially has played his whole career behind the worst packs in the comp each year. He's never had a chance to truly prove whatever ability he may have with any consistency.
Manly was never really a good choice if he wanted to play consistent finals footy. Sure they scraped in the once in his first season with them and were bundled out immediately. It’s been nada since. Still better than it’s been here of course, but we’re a team on the up now, Manly is on the decline/rebuild, even moreso now DCE has gone.

Its not Lukes fault the club gave him an insanely big contract and still chose to play him out of position. Neither are Luke's fault. Its the clubs fault. It would be like getting upset if we shifted Api to #7 and didnt turn it on like andrew johns. It was poor management by the club on multiple fronts.
I also question how insanely big the contract was. Rumours it was very heavily back ended and his contract was around 7-800K a season. Which in my opinion was about, or only slight overs for, his value at the time.

Agreed. From a results perspective I think Manly was a very poor choice. From length and value of contract I believe it was the obvious choice. Tigers claimed we wanted him but offered him massive unders. Rumoured to be offered a short term contract at Roosters on unders and similar money to Manly at Dragons but less years. Only Manly full value and long term.

Tigers big improvers this year …

Somehow Storm are still in the top five for most points scored and least points conceded despite losing their last two matches dismally. I guess that big win over Parra in the first round put them up there.

Nice stats for us though, especially in the least points conceded! We’ve rarely seen that, God I hope we can keep it up this whole season 🙏🏼

Luke was never a leader and the club tried to manufacture him into one. Again, this was the clubs fault for trying to make him something he wasnt.

It also isnt Lukes fault fans pinned their hopes and dreams on him after the club lost key players and decided to switch coaches multiple times.

Brooks had 5 coaches in 10 years:
Potter
Taylor
Clearly
Madge
Sheens

He also had 2 interim coaches:
Webster (a few games)
Kimberley (a few games)

How many players did we lose in the same period?

Luke could have been somethjng special. Our team could have been something special. Just goes to show how 🐕 💩 the club was the last 15 years.

He plays for another team now ..one that a lot of our fans have a strong dislike for .. If people here want to give him a bit of cheek I don’t have a problem …he has made millions of dollars … it comes with the territory

Look at how the fans of that same team treat one of their absolute legends in their past game ..it happens … part of the game

Wouldn't be in too much of a rush to get rid of Tony Sukkar, I think he could develop into a reasonable player over the next season or two.
I wouldn't be letting Tony Sukar go at all , he is getting better and bigger. I have been watching the lower grades on Bar Tv and he has arguably been Wests best forward for thier 3 Games. i watched the game against the warriors KOE and apart from being a good game to watch , i thought wests played very well , considering it was over there. The pleasing thing for me was that the young ones that we are expecting to make thier way through all played well, Javon Andrews and young Attard in particular.Max Tatoua looked good although his defence needs a bit of work. Jarrod Hayward looked slick when he was on. All good signs for our depth at the Wests Tigers.

Nah not buying the "could" have angle. Luke has got plenty of natural ability but hasn't got the footy smarts the difference between the decent halves and the elite.
