Lets say you are right.. it just reinforces how stupid the club was to offer him the money they did... so far the beni gamble has paid off... and it had to.. we cant go through another 15 years of this crap.

He also had 2 interim coaches:
Webster (a few games)
Kimberley (a few games)

How many players did we lose in the same period?

Luke could have been somethjng special. Our team could have been something special. Just goes to show how 🐕 💩 the club was the last 15 years.

I didn’t like his shot at the club in a post game interview while playing with Manly. It was related to the Tigers and he said with a smile on his face, no comment.

Pathetic player.

I dunno mate. I feel like he's had more opportunity than most to prove his ability. It's just his ability has never matched up to the hype that was heaped on him. That's not his fault, and I hold nothing against the bloke, but he's never amounted to anything more than a middle of the road first-grader and I doubt he ever will. People were claiming when he first went to Manly that he'd end up playing origin, as if playing 7 at the Tigers was the thing that had held him back all those years, but that hasn't even looked like coming true. Not saying the Tigers paved him a path to glory by any means, but even if they did, I doubt he has the ice in his veins to consistently deliver in the big moments.

Wouldn't have minded seeing him get a go at 9 though. Ah well, not to be.

Brooks himself came out many times and said he wants to play halfback, he wants to lead the team around and make us successful. He talked the talk, but couldn't walk the walk.

Hate is too strong for him, he tried, he just wasn't good enough. The club persisted with him for too long

It's a bit circular, this. One could equally argue that he only played behind bad packs because teams with good ones didn't choose to sign him due to, y'know, him not being that great a player.

I always get annoyed at the idea that players leave the Tigers and suddenly become amazing as I think it's largely just another stick to beat the Tigers with. But, equally, good clubs have been able to pick up reasonably decent players from us and use them in roles to which they're suited, thus getting better outcomes out of essentially the same player. Blore and Papali'i are decent current examples: they haven't suddenly become different players, it's just the Melbourne and Penrith can use the skills they have in a way that helps the team and makes them look good.

I can't help feeling that if Brooks had a lot of untapped potential he would have got better offers over the course of his career. Even in the "big four" days it's no surprise, in retrospect, that he was the one who didn't get lured away.

I think his biggest mistake was re-signing here when there was interest from the Storm

He could have been anything in that system

Can't blame him for loyalty. He gave it all he could whilst he was here. Just was not the right system for him.

Depends what you consider opportunity. Over 250 games to show what you got is significantly more opportunity than most. But looking at the roster year on year, what year do you think he was behind a top 8 pack?

Nah, I'm not saying he ever was, just that if he did have that luxury, I still have my doubts that he would be able to deliver. In the early stages of 2023 our pack was killing it and Brooks and Douiehi were bloody awful behind them (tbf so was the rest of the team besides Api).

He never dogged the club, always gave it his all, even if it wasn’t good enough. Never caused the club problems off the field, and seemed like a good human being. Yet, he was the most toxic individual in the history of the club. I know emotions run high when you support a club, especially one without success, but the level of vitriol he copped was equivalent to someone convicted of child rape. That’s how unhinged it was at times.

Did the rite thing for himself at the time.
We lowballed him at $550k x2 which made a very clear statement...Manly offered $750k x 3 ..and he figured hed have DCE calling the shots on his behalf forever
All made so much sense...until..
