Jahream Bula #269

Yeah i watched

Lucky these young developing players have time to work on their games

Hes had 5 games.in reggies
FIVE!

and. You expect him to be NRL standard now?
Attard needs a good year and a half at least plying his trade in KOE before he gets an NRL call up...rushing him will hinder his career...he is the Joey Walsh of fullbacks

I thought Bula had a good game without being outstanding. Watched it again and really don't know what some are looking for. This is a team sport he did his job yesterday.

I change my opinion on him week by week. The potential 900k is steep man, and it would seem like his camp are really holding out for it. If we want to keep Samuela and Makasini, we can't just cop Bula's 900k option.

I judge him too much on what he does (or not) in possession. He seems to be an intelligent organiser and communicator in defence. Having said that his anticipation and timing in defence is not quite elite just yet either. But his big contributions are out of possession and yardage coming out of our 20.

My personal benchmark is for him to ice a couple of games for us this season. That's what 900k should be getting you at the very least. We had Souths on the ropes 3 weeks ago and those are the moments a KP or a Latrell says "Give me the ball I'm going to win us this game". Even Cronk was saying "Tigers should be looking to Bula" at the 75th minute vs Eels.

I keep looking for the GI, Hayne moments but he's more like a Luke Patten kind of fullback. Naturally classy and disciplined/level headed but not an absolute weapon.

Sitting behind the posts watching the game live, his communication in defence was excellent. Kept our line very organised all game long

Don't know how he can be criticised. Saved a try, scored one, didn't make a mistake, he's looking better every week. Seems like he always takes a little bit to warm into seasons

The knocks on him seem to be comparing him to very unique and talented superstars, I’ve seen GI and Hayne mentioned.

There’s actually a benefit in having a reliable, consistent fullback, especially if you think he’s going to get better.

He’s not a walking highlight reel yet, but he’s not going to cost you games either, like some fullbacks can do on a bad day.

Pay him.

As Terrell said, he's the glue of the team. Last year we were noticeably worse when he didn't play

As our combinations will improve he will score more highlight reel tries. For now he does a great job supporting guys like KPP

For me, Jahream has improved since last season. His organisational skills are way up, can't recall the last time he dropped a bomb, and his support play is also better. My only nitpick is that I don't see him there often to make the last tackle on the winger. Tedesco and Edwards, you see these guys sprint from one wing to the other and are at least in the frame to save a try. Against Parra I saw Jock Madden there a couple of times, would've been nice if Bula could've been there too.

If he maintains his current form throughout the season without any dips (barring a game or two here and there), then I would be happy to give him his payday. A fullback in defence is like a wicketkeeper in cricket - you won't notice a good one doing his job - and I am quite happy for him to go about his job with minimal errors.

But if he is inconsistent, then we have to consider our young players who will need upgrades at some point and hold our ground on the initial offer. Atard looks decent enough to provide some sort of value next year, although he is a completely different player. There is also the option to sign a veteran player on a short deal until Atard is ready.

All-in-all, like many have said here, would prefer to keep him, but if it doesn't work out then we have options.
