I say good riddance, and while he is at it, take the other useless megalomaniac PVL with him, totally destroyed the game, rule changes, and those 6 again stupid rules, in my humble opinion, they are the result of the humongous incidences of injuries that players have suffered since this rule change, players are placed under so much stress, and that has resulted in many players trying to keep up with the momentum of this fast paced game and the fatigued factor and as a result sustain serious injuries, be it through fatigue, or exhaustion.
Have followed this game since I was 9 years old and now just turned 70, loved watching league, but now, it looks more like touch footy then the game we all loved. And I believe it's because of these two clowns, (Abbot and Costello)
I am at the point of walking away from following this game that I have loved for so long, because these clowns have ruined it, and is hardly worth following, Rant over!

The rule changes aren’t responsible - it’s the lack of conditioning the teams are allowed to put into the players to prepare them adequately for the progress of the game - the kids are getting bigger and faster, the training isn’t allowed to keep up - with the RLPA rules around time in training and away from the game…

I ask myself this, is it possible that Ivan Cleary is being groomed for being his replacement, just could be on the cards, now there is someone that could do so much good for the game, has serious football experience, I am thinking, just thinking that this might be an option, he is reported as leaving the Panthers, and now Abdo is moving on, is it possible?

nah, PVL would need someone more experienced in sports management, with the intro of 2 new teams and the broadcast deal he will need someone who can hit the ground running.

Abdo and PVL, yeah they have increased revenue and got the game through COVID, but in many respects they have ruined the game with these 6 again rules.......

Seems fans will never be happy.

6 agains stopped the wrestle which meant Melbourne and a few other teams were guaranteed to win it each year.

Now with a newer format, the same teams struggle.

Should the bottom teams reassess or should we change back to the old rules?

I think it has more to do with ref inconsistency. The 6 again is a good concept but extremely subjective from referee to referee.

The 6 again argument is a bit secondary to the issue with refs going 6 again crazy during parts of matches...usually the first 20mins...it obviously favors the team holding the ball and just exaggerates the "momentum". Need to go back to a system whereby the teams are warned and then pinged.

Good call - I thought he might be headed to help Super League (with Richo maybe) but this makes more sense.

Kenty also said he spoke to Ikin ages ago about his next move - reckon you’re right, this might be it.

And NRL FtA and PayTV ratings grow year on year...while live crowds are booming too
Theyve no doubt grown the game sepite what the rusted ons and purists think.
Its a TV product...lots of action...minimal stoppages, high scores and lots of tries = ratings = $$$ at the next broadcast deal

Came out of nowhere and TBH I'm quite disappointed. I like the way he spoke, always quite measured, no hyperbole, no useless stats, just quite direct and useful information.

We can never know the truth but judging by their personalities, I'd say PVL is more behind the rules changes, Vegas, 20 team expansion etc. I feel like Abdo was the Ying to his Yang- bit of sanity to PVL's maverickness.

I don't know how much we can attribute to Abdo but if I had a million dollars to invest, I'd definitely invest based on Abdo's personality more than PVL- just my preference.

I have a feeling being with Tennis Australia would give him more exposure to international corporate sponsors instead of dealing with Telstra, Ampol etc. NRL just seems way too unorganised, unstructured whereas TA, PGA etc seem much better due to the rich history.

I wish Abdo was still with NRL for the new media deal. This would be the first deal where the comeptition will not just be Nine, Seven, Ten etc but also Kayo, Netflix, Prime, Disney etc wanting the streaming partnership. Probably the most important decision coming NRL's way and that's probably why PVL wanted the Vegas expansion to get Netflix and Prime more interested.

Big stuff happening here, let's see what happens..
