Latu Fainu #282

I think AD feels it’s on him to make things happen coz he doesn’t rate those around him ! Selfish in one way, honest in another!
Just my opinion, I think Latu is a ball playing 7 but won’t get near it as long as Luai and Douehi are there.
I agree with you there Hal,
Problem I see we have is Luai and Doueihi are both running 5/8s.
I have heard a lot of how good Latu is but haven’t seen any of it myself.
Surely if he is potentially a gun like the Dolphins half our coaches and players would have seen it at training over the last 2 years 🤷‍♂️
In saying that I would like to see him get a start in the half’s so we could all get an idea if he is the real deal 🤞

Whilst this might be going down memory lane, Robbie Farah played most of his junior footy in the halves, however as his shape, height, and low centre of gravity changed, he was coached to play 9.

That worked out beautifully.

When I watch Latu play, I feel the same way. He has all the crafty and creative skills of both Robbie and Api combined, but he just needs to finesse his passing and kicking game.
Totally disagree you need to go and watch Latu play and see his previous games for Manly and u19 state of origin where he played 6, the way he straightens the attack his ball playing by putting players through holes he is a 6 through and through plus he has speed to burn.
He was the best 6 coming through leaving Galvin and Ethan Strange for dead unfortunately injuries have held him back.
Haywood is our future 9 with the club even looking at him as a future club captain, he is very crafty out of dummy half and is a 9 every day of the week.
When you combine Latu, Javon and Haywood as our future spine with Bulla it really could be something special.

Lol how about you watch Latu play.

Did you read what you posted - own club’s website calls him a skillful half…

What you provided certainly doesn’t pave any shape or form of becoming a NRL level hooker well.

His numbers show how Benji has played him which has been absolutely rubbish. As a bench player because he is picking AD and Luai ahead of him but he is too good to play reggies mixed with how awful our depth is.

All through juniors he was one of the most talented halves in the country. When he plays there stuff happens majority of time - will never be all the time. He plays his 1st nsw cup game as a halve for a while on the weekend and absolutely carves up.

When he plays wider things always look to happen.
so what
our clubs website also says we have 30 nrl players too...
both statements seem incorrect

No club would move him on. If you have a young half who naturally has time with ball in hand you hang onto him for dear life and persevere with his body. Ball players like Latu dont come along very often. You say he hasn't pressed for a spot anywhere but he hasn't been given one single game in his position...not one game. Its like signing Tedesco and then complaining when he isnt killing it at hooker, lock and wing.
Prop.. we would play teddy at prop and complain that he steps at the line,,,

Latu will end up at 7 and Andrews at 6. People saying Benji has destroyed him must be kidding, he dropped down to KOE and did not miss a beat. I actually think playing other positions around the middle is not a bad thing for his development, especially for a guy like him that seems to enjoy the collision, hones his defense and gives him insights into the players and positions around him when he does take the 7. AD has been a game winner for us, however i don't know if he is the 7 going forward, he does not play as a typical 7 and struggles to deliver much more than a run himself, or a short ball to a 2nd rower...when he goes for the cut out its often off target and our winger has to stop to catch it and loses momentum. I hate to say it but he is a bit of a Galvin with a bigger body but less stamina and a better kicking game and softer hands.
Agreed 👍
