OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

Yeah I never really noticed it until the Warriors game. Makasini was in a huge gap, all he had to do was throw a solid, flat pass onto his chest and it was try time. He over complicated it and threw a floaty pass in front, and the opportunity was botched.
Nope, Makasini was suooosed to run onto that .. that’s was a perfect pass to put Makasini into the hole and in for a try .. I like Makasini a lot, but that was on him

The way i see the Luai situation is he was committed to seeing out his deal until the end of next year and I honestly don't think he was dogging it on the field, he has been putting his body on the line in defense and his attack is no better or worse than the median since he joined. I believe that Benji and the club asked him to leave next year and he agreed to go. So whilst bailing out leaves a bitter taste, i dont hold any grudges as whilst i do still rate him as a 6, i don't think he is worth $1.2m playing 6 at our club. Maybe if he was able to take the 7 role that we signed him for it would have been a different story, so this whole saga may actually end up being a blessing for the club.

As i wrote after he signed the PNG deal, he was never going to get another payday like that at any club and he knew it, so he had to take. His lack of game management skills was obvious and exposed at the WT and he needs a certain system in place to truly flourish at 6, basically a bit player that steps in at the right time to crack a frantic defense, or does a jinking run to make space for a ball back to the right (he does this a lot and it used to work at Penrith). If he went back to Penrith he would immediately make them a better team in both attack and defense.

I have no ill feelings to Jarome but I still think it will go a long way for Tigers to get a few more wins this season for it to have a nice taste. We don't need to make the finals for it to be a successful year, but the last few weeks has not been impressive by the team as a whole. If we can turn it around and get a win this weekend, and a few more, finish on a fairly nice note, then hopefully 2027 have no major midseason distractions. We will have Taylan May + The Dolphins fella in the centres, KPP hopefully for the year. Give that young hooker from last week more game time and develop Latu and that other young half coming through it should be a decent year. Then 2028 Premiers 🙂

Luai has got the most out of his above average rather than elite level talent ..and is going to parlay that into a lot of money ..I don’t really begrudge him walking out and getting $2mil a year tax free ( including Third party ) .. he will also be well set up for a media career post retirement

It does drop the club into another media frenzy looks like ..what else is new ..

I dunno Suzie Q, if you mean Richo, he was here during all the Galvin saga last year. I don’t know if it’s ever been any different, no matter who’s in charge.
You know what I reckon it is flippedy . We’ve been shit for so long that most of the players we attract either are reclamation projects , juniors looking for annopportunity , or guys loookijg for a payday . Because of this many times you’re getting guys with strong media presence , and polarising social status.
So because of these 3 types you’ve got a culture of guys who are half checked out , guys who are looking to pad stats to get the next big contract or guys who don’t know any better and happy to be there .
Because of these 3 types you can have misleading personalities in the dressing room , and so when shit goes pear shaped , there’s simply no adults in the room / a whole bunch of bundle dropping goes on .
This can lead to IMO guys like Romey putting it in the ether , which stirs up hornets nests , and then we are click bait for 2 weeks .
My honest opinion . Romey had lifted the standards and expectations around what’s required Monday-Friday . But his petulant attitude is litterally kryptonite for those 80 mins on the weekend . I understand being like “F U I’m the man “ , as the 3 beat sportsman I know of Ali , Jordan and Bradman. We’re all that way as well. But nearly all 3 of them when actually in the fight or match wasn’t chest beating anyone . They were whispering hyperbole, whilst ruining your sporting career .
Like it wasn’t so demonstrative .
Even AD was petulant and dismissive of blame , and to be honest self absorbed .
I thought the claw was a good thing as it made tries and winning about “the tigers” collective . Lately it’s gone back to being about the individual . You need guys who actually put the tiger on the jersey above all else, otherwise your simply not being these top clubs who have solved that conundrum years ago .

I would also prefer that the guys that need shoulder and Pec operations just go and get them so we can have a full squad for pre season and give 2027 a good shake. Let the young kids play the remainder of this season with no pressure so they can get some 1st grade experience.

Is there a press conference for Luai today , I thought I read it on hear at some point , maybe to give his side of the out and where he has signed if he has signed on at another club , seems to have moved quick all these things going on , I just hope now we get news that Sam and Latu have extended and maybe we are shopping with a fair chunk of cash , we need more players for top grade and a hand full for reserve grade

I don't understand how you can say stolen it's a very hard line

I find it the clubs fault and Benji's fault

If your a handyman and making $70 an hour and the guy across they street offers you $140 an hour and you take the job we all know it's for the money and if you let the guy know that your working from month to month and can leave at the end of any month and you agreed to it

The fault is on you

Something is only worth what your willing to pay that's it case closed

This honestly sounds like Benji had a dummy spit after Jerome took the PNG offer

The only thing that I am interested in is that Jerome told Benji behind closed doors about sticking out the full contact
Its more complex than your analogy

How do you feel about Jarome receiving 3rd party payments from PNG during the 2027 season? Because that is one of the things the Wests tigers management had issue with..

I don't think he's the villain, he's a hero as far as I'm concerned to make this decision and leave.

I'm positive the Tigers would of been very happy that he decided to leave, and most of the players as well.

Even though you like a bloke off the field it's what goes down on the field that counts and these guys were probably looking at him, thinking, "1.2m really?"
Imo iv got nothing but respect for Luai. Talk of if he was sucessfull depends on a personal outlook. Some say no cause we didnt make finals. Im in the camp if in the next few years we position ourselves as a regular finals team then Luai was a huge success as the circuit breaker the club brought in to teach us standards and requirements for success. Either way Ciraldo, Moses, Munster, Bellamy and loads of other people said a hard no to what Luai had the guts to try and do. You have to respect that. He tried what the rest werent willing to. On the pitch he didnt perform like at Penrith, though we arnt the Penrith team he really didnt have much to work with coming to the three time wooden spooners, yet always put in and tried. I think letting him go now is in everyones best interests he is moving in another direction, now the club has to, better to just rip the bandaid off. Once hes gone though i wont be hating on him like i do Moses or Galvin. Good luck to him. Hope he finds success at P.N.G he deserves it.

There was just that short period of time when WT was not a bun fight of disharmony and media leaks. Gosh. What could have changed? And more importantly, what stayed the same? 🤔🤔🤔
Funny hey Suzie, at the Wests Tigers it just seems that the more things change, the more things just stay the same. Theres only ever been one constant through out our vast majority of failed history. Two sides of a merger that prob never wanted to merge and did it to survive. Then an ownership group who make incompetence sound competent.
